On this inspiring episode of The Jay Young Show, we sit down with Staff Sergeant Jason Morgan, a U.S. Air Force veteran whose incredible story of overcoming adversity has touched the lives of many. After serving in one of the military’s most elite special operations units, Jason’s life took a dramatic turn following a life-changing accident in the Andes Mountains in 1999, which left him paralyzed.
Despite facing overwhelming physical and emotional challenges, Jason’s journey of recovery, perseverance, and advocacy continues to inspire others. In this episode, he shares his personal story, including his military career, the accident that changed his life, and the critical role his service dog, Napal, played in his recovery.
Jason also discusses his deep involvement in the Warrior Games, where the idea for the Veterans Outpost—a nonprofit he co-founded—was born. He explains how his experiences with fellow injured veterans motivated him to create a healing space where veterans and their families could come together, share their struggles, and support each other. The Veterans Outpost, with activities like horseback riding and off-roading, provides a retreat designed to promote physical and emotional recovery.
Jason speaks candidly about the loss of two fellow soldiers to suicide and the mental health challenges many veterans face. He also shares his frustration with the lack of support for pre-9/11 veterans from organizations like the Wounded Warrior Project, which helped drive him to build an inclusive space for all veterans.
