Summary
Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is a syndrome characterized by various iatrogenic movement disorders resulting from dopamine receptor antagonism. These movement disorders include akathisia, dystonia, buccolingual stereotypy, chorea, tics, and other abnormal involuntary movements, most commonly emerging after prolonged antipsychotic use.Vesicular monoamine transporter type 2 (VMAT2) inhibitors are now available in the United States for managing dyskinesia syndromes, each with a slightly different range of approved indications. VMAT2 inhibitors are agents that cause a depletion of neuroactive peptides such as dopamine in nerve terminals and are used to treat chorea due to neurodegenerative diseases or dyskinesias due to neuroleptic medications (tardive dyskinesia).

Summary
Early and effective treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) is essential to prevent persistent residual symptoms, which are associated with worse outcomes. Evidence indicates that residual symptoms, such as impaired cognition, are underrecognized and undertreated in routine clinical care. Recognizing residual symptoms and the factors contributing to suboptimal treatment response is a critical first step to modifying management, with the goal of eliminating residual symptoms and achieving full remission.
