The real reason I started homesteading, the answer may surprise you!
I was longing for a simple, unhurried life. I was tired of hurling myself from event to event and answering all the dings of modern technology. I wanted to be calm and peaceful. It just happened that my whole life, as far back as I can remember, all I ever wanted was to be a mom, wife, and homemaker. I found myself in a place where I was living my dream, and I was even blessed with a fantastic businessโone where I got to set my schedule and work around my family. But somewhere along the way, I forgot how to have fun and do things just for enjoyment. Life became this long checklist of to-dos, and if I could get them all done before I collapsed, then I had accomplished something, or so I thought.
I knew I had to learn to care for myself and escape survival mode. I knew I was not being the mom, wife, and person I wanted to be. Unfortunately, back in the day, I bought into hustle culture. Forgive me, my 20-something self. I thought that if I were ever going to be successful, I would have to work until I couldnโt see straight. And if I stopped to take a break, it would all come tumbling down around me.
As I started taking time to learn how to make things for my family, one often not-so-tasty meal at a time. I started noticing a peace inside of me, even joy bubbling from deep inside just like the perfect sourdough started, so there's some homesteading humor lol. The more I found myself in the kitchen creating, the happier I was. My family was also happy as my cooking improved, one slightly burnt cookie at a time. I realized that this was the life I was created to live, and for the first time in a long time, I had taken a deep breath, enjoyed the stillness, and knew that this was good. I was on the right path, the path of peace. As I continued on, homesteading was the next right step. Along the way, I discovered what success meant to me and what would truly make me feel successful. It looks a lot different from the world's definition of success. Hustle culture is truly detestable to me, it only leads to burnout. Check out this episode and let me share my definition of success. Maybe it will inspire you to rethink what it means to you! am so grateful for this path. If any of this hits home, please, the right path is just a step away. Enjoy the show!

Are you ready to start canning? I hope you are reaping a harvest if you planted a garden this year! If you didnโt plant a garden this year or didnโt get the amount of produce you would have liked, no worries! You can supplement from farmers' markets, roadside stands, and friends! In this episode, I want to share how I batch can. It will make it a lot easier to can a variety of delicious foods that you and your family can enjoy all year long!
Thereโs nothing better than cracking open a can of stewed tomatoes in February or grabbing a can of garden veggie soup on a cold day. Just be sure to dip some warm bread in it. Thatโs the only thing that could make it better.
I hope you enjoy the show. Happy canning!!

Hey friends! Someone asked me how I got my daily cleaning done in 20 minutes a day.The answer is..I put in a lot of work on the back end to get to this point. I decluttered with reckless abandon . I was ruthless. And guess what? I don't even remember what I got rid of!So that means I really didn't need it. Other than a box of random wires that my husband wanted me to keep and I talked him into tossing it, then one day he needed something from that box and it was gone . But other than that I would say it's a win!I also streamlined my cleaning products and put them in a cute little cleaning caddy, when it's go time I don't even have to think about it. I just look at my list and grab the caddy. In no time I'm done! VOILA Cleaning and decluttering is not the same thing. I used to think cleaning was getting rid of all of the random junk lying around then and then cleaning afterward. These are two different things. Doing them out of order can be overwhelming and take WAY too much time! I don't know about you, but I would rather be outside, at Target or sipping a hot cup of coffee while snuggled up in my slippers.I created a quarterly decluttering schedule, and I can stay on top of the clutter monster with ease! And so can you!!Each January, April, July and October I go through my decluttering checklist. What is my checklist you're wondering? Here it is!1.Kid's rooms-basically everything inside lol They can be like little squirrels stashing away nuts for winter. I go through drawers, and closets, changing out seasonal items when needed, and tossing clothes that are too worn to wear anymore. Donating clothing that no longer fits them. I look under the bed for random items that were lost or stuffed underneath in a hurried bedroom cleaning so they can outside or get back to what they really wanted to do.2. All closets, which for us are our closet and the coat closet.3. Garage4. Van- my mom van can hold a plethora of random items, and they can accumulate quickly, even when I try to stay on top of it!5. Nightstands6.Bathroom cabinets7.Seasonal Items/household items8.Kitchen Drawers9.Pantry10. papers-Trash, shred or file.Remember Rome was not built in a day, or in this case unbuilt lol so take it slow and don't get overwhelmed! Hey Friends! Are you ready for a life update? I turned 39, and it was the best birthday ever! Dinner with family, time with friends, and picking out my very own baby chicks!
We are converting the sweetest playhouse into a chicken coop, and I am redecorating our house. I am craving all things cozy, and it's been so fun! Searching for vintage paintings, I even scored a gorgeous maple wood hutch to store my canning jars, that will soon be filled with food for the winter.
The boys are starting football today, it makes me feel like summer is over, but it's not! we will squeeze out every last drop of summer. Enjoy the show! ๐ฅ

Hey friends! Do you want to create your very own compost for organic gardening? This black gold will help your plants and flowers grow big and strong!
There are many ways to create a compost bin, you can make one with wood and hardware mesh, order one from Amazon, or do what I did and buy a big metal trash can. I kept it simple ๐ I bought a 32-gallon metal trash can with a lid, I wanted to keep the smells inside the trashcan and the critters out.
The next step is to drill some holes in the bottom of the trash can, this is for drainage and to promote aeration. I used a large bit of drill and created several holes.
Place a layer of twigs or small branches at the bottom of the trash can to promote air circulation and drainage. Add a layer of brown materials. Such as dried leaves, shredded newspaper or cardboard to the trash can. This will help create a balanced compost mix.
Add a layer of green material on top of the brown material, things such as fruit and vegetable scraps, grass clippings, eggshells and coffee grounds. Never use meat or dairy in your compost. The green material will provide the nitrogen needed for the composting process. Continue layering the brown and green materials in the trash can, be sure to keep the compost moist but not soggy. So, after your first two layers of green and brown material, you will want to add some water.
Turn the compost with a pitchfork or shovel every few weeks to aerate and mix the materials. Place the lid on your compost container to keep the compost contained and protected from rain and pests.
Allow the compost to decompose for several weeks to several months, it depends on the material used and the environmental conditions on how fast your compost will take to break down.
When this process is complete you will have black gold to add to your plants that will improve soil quality and help plants grow healthy and strong! I got a big container with a lid, and I keep it handy in my kitchen, when I have fruit and veggie scraps, eggshells and coffee grounds I toss it in the container and put the lid on. Then I have a simple way to make sure that I have some "green" materials ready for my compost bin.
I hope you enjoy this episode! ๐ฑ

Hey friends! I have a garden update for you. My tomatoes are flourishing, which is great because I can't wait to make spaghetti sauce and pizza sauce. ๐ The wildflowers are blooming new beauties each day. I have ONE huge, lonely spaghetti squash and finally green beans. ๐ธ๐บ๐ชป๐นI also have a lot of weeds! I'm not using any chemicals in the garden so I'm doing a lot of old-fashioned weeding. ๐ฅตHave you ever heard of lasagna gardening? I am going to give it a try for next year.
