In this week's bite-sized episode, we explore some of the current arguments surrounding shelter dogs today:
1) The Covid Adoption "boom"
2) The Post-Covid Owner Surrender following this "boom"
3) The idea that our shelters are full because we have an overpopulation of these pet animals in the United States
This one is likely to ruffle a few feathers, and hopefully it will spark some interesting conversations amongst your friends, family and peers!
The more we are open to learning, and the more we understand the REAL drivers of high intakes at animal shelters, the better we are at formulating some solutions that will actually work.
Class is now in session :)
Please consider supporting our show and helping us make a difference in the lives of these animals!

Welcome to The Shelter Story! Our pilot episode kicks off with a brief introduction of our host Saharai followed by a short but meaty (much like our host) synopsis of animal sheltering in the US. It is important to understand the distinction between municipal Animal Shelters, Rescues and Sanctuaries and their unique roles in the world of homeless animal care.
