In active addiction, we become accustomed to suffering and we start to believe that "this is just how life is". Even in sobriety, we might settle into a life that we don't really want and aren't excited about and think that it's normal. But I believe that you are always one idea away from having a completely different life. You are one idea away from greatness, even in the darkest of times.

It solves some type of problem and gives us "peace" internally, even if your external circumstances can be in complete chaos. Using drugs and alcohol isn't a true path to joy though, nor is it sustainable. It's important to understand that we can achieve peace, contentment, joy and fulfillment in sobriety. In this episode, Connor explains the 3 steps needed in order to do so.

One of the most important things in sobriety is making sure you're spending your time with healthy people. In early recovery, a lot of people try to hold onto old friendships/ relationships that are clearly toxic, and it only ends in a few ways (none of them are good). If we want a new life, we have to be willing to shed our old one. The people who refuse to accept this tend to get burned over and over until a change is made. If you struggle with keeping healthy relationships, this episode is for you.

When we aren't living up to our own standards and we conduct ourselves in a way that doesn't reflect who we truly are at heart, guilt and shame is typically the end result. The reason why addiction leads to guilt and shame is because we know that we are living well below our own standards and the longer we are struggling, the more guilt and shame builds with it. Even though this can be painful, it is a necessary and important piece to getting on the path to recovery. If you feel like you're overwhelmed with guilt and shame, this episode is for you.

There is no such thing as being too dumb to get sober, but there is such a thing as being "too smart". People tend to stay sober after some form of guidance and mentorship whether that be rehab, 12 step meetings, coaching or other support groups. In most cases it takes humility and acceptance to get sober because this is when we are the most willing to take direction. When we are "too smart" for our own good and still driven by ego, we tend to make the same mistakes that could be easily avoided by listening to those who have been where we currently are.
