Hanna Kinnunen! This episode is in Finnish.
Hanna is a multitalented actor, singer, radio host, journalist, and many other things! Hanna and I have done various improv gigs together and it has always been inspiring to work with her.
Hanna’s episode can also be found on YouTube channel: With Miska Podcast Episodes.
https://youtu.be/X7Zj6qfZ63U
In this discussion we talk about how Hanna got into professional acting, which was when she won the Finnish TV show Haluatko filmitähdeksi? (Do You Want to Be a Moviestar?) The show put her on the map in the whole country and she became a star.
At some point she stepped out from TV for some years, but she still kept acting and working in her wide field of communications.
A couple of years ago she came back to the daily series Salatut elämät (Secret Lives), in which she plays a colorful character Salla. In our talk Hanna shares her process how she plays Salla, and how it is filming a daily TV series.
In addition to her acting and radio work, she is currently performing in Hanna as Adele – A Night to Remember Show & Dinner at Casino Helsinki. The show consists of Adele’s greatest hits performed by Hanna.

Jere Koistinen & Teemu Kantonen! This episode is in Finnish.
These guys are true independent filmmakers! Jere has just released his 2nd feature film Insite.
Jere and Teemu’s episode can also be found on YouTube channel: With Miska Podcast Episodes.
https://youtu.be/5AGqhvX77qw
I have known Jere for years and I have followed his journey since his first feature film Ensitreffit, in which I also had a small role. Jere started his filmmaking career in his early twenties and has not stopped since. Jere has his own production company and advertising agency, and that's how he makes his living.
Unlike many other filmmakers who leave to bigger cities, he has stayed in his hometown Varkaus, which is a small city in Finland. Instead of moving to LA he wants to bring Hollywood to Varkaus. And so far he has succeeded in it by bringing international cast (including Eric Roberts) to Finland to act in his new movie Insite.
This is a candid and wonderfully interesting conversation with filmmaker Jere Koistinen and editor Teemu Kantonen about how Insite was made.

We lived in the same house in North Hollywood 2005-2006. That was an exciting time for both of us. There was a group of people from Miami who moved to Los Angeles at the same time, and we all took our first steps in LA together.
We have seen each other throughout the years, but this conversation is a wonderful recap of what has happened in our lives during all this time, and what we are doing now. Peter works for a video game company as an editor, but he has been making his own short films since he graduated from film school in 2005. Peter tells me about his life, and how it is being an indie filmmaker in Hollywood.
Peter also runs http://www.theflushed.com/ which is a website that specializes in toilet humor. He has created videos, comics, and also published theflushed.com book!

Olli-Pekka Hiltunen! This episode is in Finnish.
This is probably the most personal talk that I have had on this podcast. I have known Olli-Pekka for about 30 years, so we get deep into stuff about our past and present.
Olli-Pekka’s episode can also be found on YouTube channel: With Miska Podcast Episodes.

Olli-Pekka is a brass band leader, music teacher, musician, and currently also an actor. He is not only acting, but also singing in the choir for Kuopio City Theatre's musical Huomenna minä lähden.
We started playing together in various bands during our teens, which was quite formative time in our lives. In this talk we go into why our rock band dreams didn't realize. We also talk how important role music has in our lives nowadays. And I am generally impressed with how well Olli-Pekka is doing in his life.

Olli is a host of MeininkiPaja podcast, and he and I have mutual friends, but we hadn’t ever met before. Even though Olli mainly lives in Finland, he was visiting LA, and I took the opportunity to have him as a guest. This is an awesome and unique talk where we go into topics that I haven’t explored on the podcast before. Olli is also an actor, but among entertainment industry talk, Olli teaches me quite a lot about electric cars, and especially their technology. Olli works for a company that builds electric motors among many other things.
We also cover how practices differ between Finland and the US in industrial companies. Olli knows quite a lot about this, since he came to LA straight from Colorado, where he was working on electric motors.

Mike Cuenca!
A conversation with a wonderful filmmaker Mike Cuenca, who was recommended to me by cinematographer Jessica Gallant, with whom we both have worked with. Jessica is currently shooting my feature film Reunion, which is getting done slowly but surely.
Mike's episode can also be found on YouTube channel: With Miska Podcast Episodes.
https://youtu.be/NTdVnJUzrp4
This is a wonderful, inspiring, and also a very down to earth conversation about the reality of making it happen in LA. Mike shares with us how it is to be a truly indie filmmaker. Mike wants to do his films in a way that they are true to his artistic vision, and he doesn’t want to compromise this, even though it may be more difficult to get funding for his projects. He has made various indie films and series, and what makes his film I’ll Be Around exceptional is how big it looks. The shooting style is very indie, but the film has many locations, a big cast, bands… lots of stuff. In our conversation Mike tells how he creates all this with a very low budget.
I loved talking with Mike, he’s a true artist and a cinephile. This talk is a wonderful reminder how good it is to stay true to your own artistic voice instead of trying to please everyone. We also talk lots about Mike’s adventures as a musician, and we share few words about the Finnish filmmaker Aki Kaurismäki!

Marjo-Riikka has various passions, and one of them is animals. We go into detail how she saves baby opossums and helps birds. I don't personally know anyone who is such an animal lover like Marjo-Riikka, and in our conversation she tells how strong connection she has with animals.
Marjo-Riikka also tells in detail how she uses Michael Chekhov Technique in her teaching. She won't reveal how to get into Theatre Academy of Finland, but at least she talks a bit about the school auditions.

She grew up on a farm in Finland, so it has been quite a leap for her to move to LA. During our conversation she shares the whole process how she got herself to LA to study acting.

A wonderful and very educational talk with filmmaker and actor Kelton Jones. His producing partner and wife Suzan Jones also stops by at the end.
This can also be found on YouTube channel: With Miska Podcast Episodes.

I met Kelton for the first time when we were working on a commercial together a couple of years ago. I remembered him being very kind and wise man, and I enjoyed spending the day with him. Since then we have reconnected via phone few times, but we haven’t met since. I knew Kelton is an experienced indie filmmaker (among other things), and I wanted him to be on my podcast.
This is a wonderful, educational, and very inspirational talk to anyone who is making, or is dreaming of making movies. The advice that Kelton gives is invaluable. And what surprised me the most is the motivational boost he gives on the podcast. And with motivational I mean how he encourages all of us indie artists to make sure that we are getting paid for our work. He also shares how he talks with film investors as he fundraises for his films.
He also tells about his upcoming book for which he has interviewed Sean S. Cunningham, the director of the original Friday the 13th.

I saw Scott for the first time when he was the warm-up comic on the reunion of Friends, and there he gave me his guitar pick. Our paths crossed again when he came to L.A. Finnish Center to see Ismo Leikola's stand-up gig which I hosted.
Scott is originally from LA, and he has seen lots! We talk about the days when he was hanging out on the Sunset Strip, and how he had his own dream of becoming a rockstar. All this led him to become the warm-up DJ for Friends, where he worked for years. Scott has been a warm-up comic for hundreds of live TV tapings, and worked on several shows with Matt LeBlanc.

Sara Kay Godot!
This my third video podcast, and this can also be found on YouTube channel: With Miska Podcast Episodes.
https://youtu.be/cZKcrY901gQ
I have known Sara for over 20 years! We went to the same theatre school in Miami, New World School of the Arts. When I started as a freshman she was already a sophomore. We watched all of each other’s college plays, and saw each other every day at school. At one point I was also her roommate for a couple of months. Later we lost touch for few years. But since we both are now in LA, we have been able to reconnect, and we both have performed on each other’s stand-up shows.
After college Sara went to Chicago for several years where she did quite a variety of live theatre, but now she’s in LA. She owns a psychology practice with her husband, produces stand-up shows, acts, auditions and also writes. She lives a full life and is fully back in action after taking a break from acting some years ago.
