The nail tech community reaches millions every day and is a multi-billion dollar industry in its own right. We provide you with countless tutorials, product reviews, and funny bits throughout the day to keep both you and us going. As a nail tech, we are more than your manicurist and pedicurist. Bonds are formed and we become family, celebrating milestones, celebrations, and all of life's twists and turns. On this journey, it is important to find and have a community of professionals to help carry us through, supporting our ventures and continuing education. In this episode, I share anecdotes and advice regarding how to find and/or start a community of supporters and professionals on your nail tech and nail care journey.

Hey Good People! Robots are entering the salon this year. I told you something about 2023 felt magical. An article, “Automated Manicures Are Coming to U.S. Airports,” from nailpro.com piqued my interest. I had to come share what I found and get your input. The way you present yourself speaks before you can introduce yourself. My first nail salon job was working in a high traffic, high-volume, salon on the city’s Eastside and we had a lot of younger clientele or women who were older, but like to keep themselves together, with that I saw a lot of Louis Vuitton bags, a lot of Gucci bags, so you can kind of get an idea of the kind of women who would come into the salon… follow suit. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nails-by-rah/support

Hey Good People, It has been some time since I last shared a license transfer story and this one is one for the books. Not only did I submit my application in good faith, but I also spent some MONEY trying to transfer my license to the State of South Carolina, and let me just say, they gave me a run for my money. I put this episode together to share my experience and help someone else transfer their license from another state. I am thankful for this experience because I get to share this journey with you as well about getting licensed in a state with different requirements than the state I was originally licensed. I started by visiting the State of South Carolina’s Board of Cosmetology website to read the requirements before I started to put my application together to apply for endorsement.South Carolina does not have reciprocity in place with any other state and is a member of the National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC). So what this means is proof of successful passage of the NIC exam (theory and practical) is required for new licensees. If you are licensed out of state you must request a License Verification from the state(s) where you have passed an examination and the state where you are currently licensed. The verification(s) must be mailed or emailed ([email protected]) from the other state board(s) directly to our office. Attached is a license verification request form if needed, we will accept a state-issued verification form. As we close out the year, I wanted to talk about this feeling that I’m having about 2023. This year felt like a trial run of the “new normal,” but 2023 feels like it’s going to be the paid subscription with all the bonus features we could ask for out of life. Hey students and aspiring nail techs, the time is now for you to apply for your programs and start the process of becoming licensed and paid. Good luck and Happy New Year! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nails-by-rah/support

Hey Good People! We like to keep ourselves honest here at Confessions of A Nail Tech and we decided to Google to podcast to see what would generate. The suggested searches left our jaws on the floor and made us wonder just how happy people were in their professions to ask the kinds of questions we saw. With that being said, is becoming a nail tech worth it in the long run? The answer ranges from simple to complex and everything in between, depending on who you ask, and we're here to answer it for you. Since you've tuned in, we're assuming that you want to know if WE think it was worth it. In a $9 billion industry what say you? --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nails-by-rah/support

Hey Good People, Not "Just" A Nail Tech is a think piece. Earlier this week, I saw a post by Nailpro Magazine that featured Celina Ryden's story about the struggle of Nail Technology being recognized as a real job. *scoff* The nerve, right? Her story resonated with me so much because I shared a similar experience when deciding to work as a nail technician. Take a listen!

Hey good people! Happy Tuesday! I hope these last couple of weeks have been productive for you as we transition into the last quarter of 2021. I know, right? The year is almost over and we made it through another year and a half of trying to abide by CDC guidelines and then taking risks! (Wear your masks and continue to social distance, please). I also entered into my last year of business school so I am equally excited about what is to come for Nails by Rah and Confessions of a Nail Tech. Speaking of which, I did some research on my most listened to the episode and the number of subscribers and follows that I have gained since I started this podcast last year and I am truly amazed! I cannot express enough gratitude for you all because again, without listeners, I’m just another professional with a podcast, so thank you! After doing some research I found that the most listened-to episode was Episode 5 from Season 2, “Why is my Full-set So expensive?” You all must really like this one! I wanted to do an episode to recap on the way to work the price into your service without setting off your clients. We learned in that episode that you must set your price and do not bend the rules. Yes, we are here to provide nail services, but we are also here to make a profit.
Books that I mentioned in this episode were:
Woman Evolve - Sarah Jakes Roberts
Year of Yes - Shonda Rhimes
Nice Girls Don't Get Rich - Lois P. Frankel, Ph.D
Jazz - Toni Morrison

In this episode, we talk about the professional biases we have within the industry. I know, as a professional, I am particular about the salons I visit when I feel like being pampered. Whenever I need a break from maintaining my own nails, I visit local nail salons in hopes that I’ll find a salon that does a job as well as I do. Admit it, you too. Very seldom do we go get services at a salon as a professional and completely relax. I’ve only done that ONCE and it was in a salon that I worked in. A simple conversation with my auntie about tax evasion in the salon space triggered a new episode. Under the table, half check half cash, all check, bi-weekly, weekly, pay, and what it all means. Welcome back after a three-month hiatus. Rah talks about owning your nail technician journey and shares a personal story about her eight-year nail salon-nail tech journey. She is open about her successes and failures. The most important thing to remember is that your journey is personal and important because it allows you to see your progress and be a work in progress. The nail salon industry in a global market is a $9.9 billion industry, which saw growth amid a pandemic. To read more visit the links below. Also, follow me on social media!:

Hey Good People, I saw a post floating around my timeline about how nails have become so expensive over the years. I read through 10% of the comments, internally laugh and then screaming when I saw the comments. In 2021 customers want a full-set of nails for $25 and a fill in for $12. Yes, you don't know what you don't know, however, it isn't wise to bargain with your nail care provider. In an older post, I briefly explain why some of these prices remain the same in certain shops and the danger of exposing yourself to cheaper chemicals. So, why the uproar over expensive salon prices? Have a listen!

Happy New Year! I feel it's appropriate to say until the end of January. In this episode, we dive deep into what we want for 2021. I think 2020 put a lot of things into perspective for us and turned us into survivors. We survived a pandemic! Yes, the nail salon survived a pandemic!
