With a front-row seat to the future, meet Taryn Southern, a creative technologist, pioneering artist, strategist, and speaker whose work explores the intersection of emerging technology and human potential.
As an early content creator, she uploaded her first video to YouTube in 2007 — and it went viral. Ten years and 750 million views later, Taryn has produced more than 1,500 pieces of digital content for networks like Conde Naste, The Today Show, MTV, Snapchat, and Maker Studios. She’s written for Business Insider and TechCrunch, and served as a host for Discovery Channel’s #1 late night show. A three-time Streamy Awards nominee, her work has been featured in Billboard, Fast Company, Wired, Vanity Fair, Harvard Business Review, and more.
Fast-forward to 2017, Taryn released the world’s first A.I.-composed pop album, then in 2019, directed and produced a Tribeca award-winning documentary on the future of A.I. and the human brain, followed by creating an award-winning Google VR series. In 2020, she became one of the earliest content creators to create an A.I.-avatar of herself.
Since 2021, Taryn has served as Chief Storyteller at a leading implantable neurotechnology company, where she launched the world’s first Brain Computer Interface museum and oversaw a communications strategy for two successful funding rounds totaling over $230M+. She is passionate about helping people use A.I. and emerging tech to amplify creativity and wellbeing.
Today's conversation explores the evolution of A.I.-assisted creativity, from Taryn's groundbreaking A.I.-composed album to her current meditative album in development that celebrates the human experience. We dive into her work deconstructing storytelling taxonomy and building custom A.I. tools, while examining how world-building, immersive experiences, and storytelling are transforming through emerging technologies.
Taryn also shares her fascinating work with brain-computer interfaces and her vision for how technology might reshape our physical and digital worlds. From questioning our relationship with productivity to contemplating a future with more "spaciousness," this episode offers fresh perspectives that challenge conventional thinking.
What are Taryn’s predictions about the future and why will she be one of the first in line for a humanoid robot? Listen in to find out — enjoy!

From early digital media pioneer to mental health advocate for creators, meet Shira Lazar.
Shira revolutionized web-first news in 2011 with "What's Trending," predating the creator economy as we know it today. She recognized the power of digital culture before most, becoming a go-to voice for emerging online communities and viral moments when traditional media wasn't paying attention. Through advocacy work, her weekly newsletter The Alpha, and speaking engagements on stages like SXSW, VeeCon, and CES, Shira continues to shape how we think about technology's impact on creators and society.
As an Emmy-nominated digital culture trailblazer, one of Fast Company's Most Influential Women in Technology, and on Variety's Women of Impact list, Shira has spent over two decades at the intersection of technology, media, and human connection. Her journey from broadcaster to digital innovator led her to an even more crucial mission — supporting creator wellbeing through co-founding Peace Inside Live, a wellness agency and collective. This work led to launching the Creators 4 Mental Health initiative which is focused on bringing mental health tools to the creator economy through events and community programming.
One question we dive into: Are A.I. creators making money? And do they have the tools to set themselves up for success in their careers? Today, you'll hear Shira's unique perspective on the evolution of the creator economy, from the early days of YouTube stars to the current A.I. revolution. She shares invaluable insights on creator sustainability, mental health, and building a more mindful digital future.
As a trigger warning: This episode contains discussions of suicide and mental health that some listeners may find distressing. If you are having thoughts of suicide, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline or visit https://speakingofsuicide.com for more support and resources.
Join us to get a pulse on the creator economy and what’s needed so we all thrive, centering wellbeing to unlock our best content we can imagine — enjoy!

Grateful Dead fans, lovers of lyrics, and those curious about A.I.'s interpretation of art, you’re in for a treat because today’s episode invites you to explore human intelligence versus artificial intelligence through the analysis of the Grateful Dead song "Ripple" with Creativity Squared resident writer and philosopher, Jason Schneider.
From reciting poems to thinking deeply about consciousness and art, Jason is a true modern-day Renaissance man with passions that include photography, motorcycles, poetry, music, and philosophy. A self-admitted life-long Leica maniac, Jason is also a camera collector, fine art photographer, writer, and photojournalist. He is currently writing a book with the working title “Understanding Emily Dickinson: A Reader’s Guide To The Enlightened Master.”
In our conversation, we discuss this piece where he compares his human analysis of this transcendent song based on the poem by Robert Hunter to ChatGPT's. Jason then put the article through ChatGPT for an opinion piece on the full article while the team did the same with NotebookLM, which gets meta quicker than a ChatGPT-prompted answer! And it wouldn’t be a conversation with Jason without some Emily Dickinson either, and you won’t want to miss how Jason sees the Grateful Dead and the poet’s similarities.
Discover why “Ripple” remains a timeless meditation on life’s most profound questions, including the limitations of human consciousness itself — enjoy!

It’s not every day that you have the honor of meeting a national treasure who is creating new art genres and movements to help us expand our imagination and stretch our understanding of what’s possible.
First inspired by Marvel and DC comics in his youth, Dr. Walter D. Greason is the distinguished DeWitt Wallace Professor in the Department of History at Macalester College.
Wondering why there weren’t Black people in the futures presented in classic sci-fi stories, Walter became one of the founders of Afrofuturism, a new lens to re-imagine a tomorrow that’s inclusive for all. He also gave the world the “Wakanda Syllabus” and helped bring the fictional city of Wakanda to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Blank Panther blockbuster films!
Named one of “Today’s Black History Makers” by The Philadelphia Daily News, Walter is an educator, historian, media ecologist, economist, and urbanist all in one who has authored eighteen books on democracy, capitalism, and digital economies in the world today. His latest book and Amazon bestseller, “The Graphic History of Hip-Hop,” is a graphic novel and scholastic experience charting the evolution of the genre Hand its myriad impacts on culture and society.
With such a deep wealth of wisdom on the power of art, especially in today’s infinite, digital landscape, combined with his understanding of the transformations shaping our society and culture both at a macro level and down to a personal one, it’s an honor to have Walter on the show. This is a conversation to revisit as we explore some of the most pressing topics of our time as we transition from the Information Age to the Imagination Age.
Today’s conversation spans a wide array of topics, from the mythological power of comics to Walter’s perspective on the current state of democracy and the world as we transition to digital capitalism, opening up new avenues for economic freedom. Walter also shares what co-powering is, along with a snapshot of the current media landscape in the age of genAI, the convergence of mediums, and the counter-convergence backlash we’re seeing globally. With expertise in Black Speculative Arts, the racial wealth gap, and patterns of economic globalization, Walter shares new frameworks to help us re-imagine the future as well as our relationships with time and each other.
In a world that can be overwhelming, listen in as Walter provides answers and shows what’s possible when we break free of current narratives and give ourselves the time, love, and permission to dream about what’s possible — enjoy!

How do we get back to human beings and not just humans doing?
Today, we have the show’s first-ever live recorded episode with two A.I. luminaries, guest Dinesh Maheshwari and guest co-host Joanna Peña-Bickley, who explore what it means to be human in the age of artificial intelligence.
Dinesh is a humanist entrepreneur, advisor to several startups, and Chief Technology Advisor at Groq. He has also served on the Board of Advisors of several startups and Board of Directors of industry organizations and has been awarded 58 US patents with 23 additional patents pending.
Joanna is the Founder & CEO of Vibes AI, an A.I.-first wearable company prioritizing brain vitality, and the Founder of Ai Design Corps™, a non-profit on a mission to embed resilience into the future of learning and work. Known as one of Alexa's moms and the "Mother of Cognitive Experience Design," for over 25 years, she's launched visionary A.I. products for Amazon, AWS, Uber, GM, Citibank, and IBM, garnering patents and global acclaim.
In today’s conversation, you’ll hear:

Do you allow the A.I. large language model (LLM) chatbots to freely scrape your content or not?
Today, we have a special episode featuring two experts with unique perspectives on this question — Jon Accarrino on how content creators and media publishers can protect and get compensated for their work and Pete Blackshaw on how brands can optimize their content for the A.I. chatbot answers that he calls the “Prompted Moment of Truth.”
Jon is an award-winning media executive recognized as the LMA's "Digital Innovator of the Year." With a background in pioneering new platforms and growing digital revenue for media leaders, Jon now guides brands to evolve through his media technology and A.I. strategy consultancy, Ordo Digital.
