Bain & Sugars talk to our friend, musician and sound engineer, Rafael Ricardo Lopez Sanchez, about his career in the music industry in Europe, as well as about his start in music, the bass violin, and sound engineering. We go from Rafael's origins in Venezuela, move on to his experiences of sound engineering in studios and on live concerts in Barcelona and all across Europe, and also of running studios and a music label in Barcelona. We talk about recording and listening to music in different kinds of spaces, about some particularly great concerts Rafael got to experience, and a lot about the technicalities of recording sound, as well as the history of recording.

Bain & Sugars talk to Thai-Swedish musician Anna Maria Olsson about life and music. We got to hear about Anna's education in European conservatories, playing music for a living in Europe, musical influences, the important influence of nature in Scandinavia, why she plays and composes the music that she plays, what projects are on the horizon, the kind of projects she wants to work on in the future, why Anna moved to Thailand in 2021, and why she decided to quit teaching and devote herself to her music career.... and many other things besides.

Bain & Sugars interview bee expert, Paul Page. Paul talked to us about his origins, what brought him to Asia, why he loves Chiang Mai in particular, his teaching of the Vietnamese martial art, Võ, and many things besides.
But, bees are the main thing, and we learned more about bees in this hour and a half than you could hope to learn in a lifetime without meeting someone like Paul. For example, did you know that there are more than 20,000 species of bee, that some bees can recognize people's faces, and that bees are the only insect which it has been proved understand the concept of zero. It was as fun and informative as you could hope a conversation could be. Thanks Paul!

Check out 2022, check in 2023. Bain & Sugars record for the first time out of the studio, dis NY resolutions, and fail to notice that they make one in the episode: to do more podcasts in 2023 than in 2022. Music happenings in Chiang Mai. What can you do in a day? What can't you do in a year? Aspirations in music. A book recommend: All You Need to Know About the Music Business: 10th Edition. A couple of music podcast recommends: Questlove Supreme and Norah Jones is Playing Along. Some rambling..

Dan’s vivid and heartfelt telling of the origins and plot twists of his journey in music, and the realization of what matters to him, artistically and ultimately, and what doesn’t, disarmed us so much that no more needs saying by way of introduction than, enjoy.

Can bands make it just by going local? Do artists need to get on the metaverse? Are we getting anything from living in social media space, from being in the metaverse? What do people come out to venues, concerts for - the music, the entertainment, mind transformation, alcohol? What we can reliably share: food, music, nature, stuff in this world. Can we reliably share anything in virtual spaces?

What is The World? What makes it real? Is it sharing? How do you share a world? Nature is a reliable foundation for sharing the world. Language, culture, history, art and music. You can’t share on social media, it’s fake sharing…

The main thing is Sugars quizzing Bain about musicians going solo, and specifically his own plans for becoming a largely solo artist in his music career.. with side notes of butter, cheese, salt and homemade bread. Pedantishly, Sugars mixes his casting-a-wide-net and painting-with-a-broad-brush metaphors.

Bain & Sugars take personality tests live in the studio. Do we know ourselves? Do our friends (or enemies) know us better? Is taking an online personality test any different from visiting the fortune teller? Are we really motivated by introspection.
We also take an I̶n̶ ̶d̶e̶p̶t̶h̶ extremely superficial look at the history and origins of personality tests.

Bain survived the kokBang. The multiverse of butterfly effects. A new way of thinking about emotions. On the day we recorded this, Lisa Feldman Barrett, the psychologist whose ideas we discuss, appeared on Lex Fridman's podcast. Kick back and hear Bain & Sugars wax lyrical and/or hear from the source...

Mainly catching up. And a little bit of asking: are the things we want, that we try for, anything to do with us as individuals? Or is it just nature, society, the universe working though us? What is the seeker seeking?
