If you’ve ever wanted to nail down your endos, stoppies, nose manuals, nose pivots or euro turns, then this episode is for you! In this weeks episode we dig into why everyone should learn these tricks (maneuvers) and just how much they can transform your overall skills and riding, anywhere and everywhere. There's a number of different ways to teach these maneuvers, but listen in as we dig into some examples to help transform your riding or coaching...
Friends with the front of the bikeDifference between maneuvers and skillsUsing maneuvers to develop and transform fundamental skills very efficientlyENDOS - rear wheel lift as the bike stops
Using a static demo to feel the forces in an endo Using emergency stops to introduce the core skills of endosReleasing the front brake for confidence and safety to bring the back wheel downBuilding confidence through repetition of correct form and technique Using the ‘scoop’ and ‘poke’ to ‘disconnect’ to manage risk and make the endo higher! Why we don’t teach people how to crash… but what can we do to help keep them safe when learning these tricks. Using lines and numbers to quantify the timing and improve execution
Phase 1: BRAKE & BRAKE - CONNECT & TIP
Phase 2: BRAKE & BRAKE - DISCONNECT, SCOOP & POKESTOPPIES - rolling endo, using the brake to slow down/stop
Patience is key… master higher endos with scoop and poke, before starting stoppiesStoppies - efficient and safer way to increase mileage and get comfortable with forces pushing the rider onto the handlebars Ideal terrain and equipment for stoppiesStoppies ideal for slow speeds and technical terrainNose manuals great for learning to balance with the front of the bike at speed, for style!
NOSE MANUALS - stoppies without the braking (using terrain, technique & speed)NOSE PIVOTS - An endo with steering & rotation to pivot on the 'nose'
"Steering" = OUT and IN to create rotational momentum and set up the turnWhy applying both brakes for all these maneuvers can helpUsing cones and markers to help timing and coordination for nose pivots and euro turnsWhat's the progression from Endos to Euro Turns and what's the timeline?Stoppies through an arc to build into Euro TurnsSlow in, fast out for smoother Euro Turns The power of skills-based coaching
EURO TURN - rolling nose pivot as the bike is still moving forward

Cornering is a perennial hot-topic for coaches, riders, You-Tubers, and even Podcasters. Why is it such a popular subject? Well, simply put, it’s one of the raddest things you can do on a bike. Being good at it involves a refined application of all the mountain biking skills – which is a daunting task for riders and coaches alike.
In this episode, we revisit the topic of cornering. This time we take an angle to explore what might be holding us back from getting better at changing directions on our bikes and what we can do to enjoy the process.
If you haven’t listened to the Cornering Part 1 (Season 2, Episode 5), check it out for specific tactics. In this episode, we take on:
· Why don’t we practice what we’re not good at?
· How motivation helps us learn
· The Comfort Zone model and what it means for practice
· A million ways to corner?
· Creativity and Motivation
· Stability as an Outcome versus a Position
· Stability, Strength, and Fatigue
· Steering, angulation, and letting the bike tip
· Scanning – why we stop doing something we know to do
· An important lesson from the Donut of the Day!
Enjoy the show!

Paul and Kristian jump on the mics to discuss why jumping is an important skill for all mountain bikers. The hosts chat through their own backgrounds as riders and discover they were both paperboys, were both shaped by technical trails, and both learned to really jump as adults.
The conversation spans from the 80s and 90s, to their first trips to Whistler where they were influenced by the trails as well as the culture, and to the conclusion that no matter what or where you ride, jumping is an important skill to learn.

Learning to drop can be intimidating. Learning to teach drops can be even more fright-inducing. But it doesn't, and more importantly, shouldn't have to be that way.
In this episode, we how examine how good coaching is good risk management and that skills-based coaching is a powerful way to build purposeful progressions.
Drops come in all sizes, shapes, and configurations and as a result, there usually isn't a single "right way" to ride a drop. In this episode we focus in on the skills we can control to create optimal performance.
For our listeners who are riders, we discuss some of the key skills-components we used to understand how to perform on drops.
For our coaches out there, we present some details on designing progressions, understanding rider anxiety, and other important important nuggets for helping riders succeed. This episode includes:
