Today, we're pulling back the curtain on our parenting - and letās just say, it wasnāt all sunshine and Instagram-worthy moments.
This is a bunch of things we wish we knew when we first became parents...
With Alex's childhood blueprint and programming the *polar opposite* of mine, we had a lot to unlearn (and re-learn) when it came to navigating the chaos of parenthood together.
We talk about: - How giving each other space saved us from spiralling arguments. - Why you should never take your kidsā words, or your partnerās emotions, personally. - Alexās journey to taking accountability and breaking the cycle of reactive behaviour. - My struggle to ask for help and express my feelings (spoiler: it wasnāt pretty). - The power of understanding emotional hijacks and knowing when to step out of the situation- How to āstrike when the iron is cold.ā to prevent shame, blame and basically more conflict.
Weāll also explore how his upbringing (where emotions basically didn't exist) impacted our dynamic and how weāve worked to defuse problems before they explode into snapping and snowballing.
Itās real, raw, and maybe even a little uncomfortableābut if youāve ever felt like youāre failing as a parent or partner, trust us, youāre not alone. Tune in for honest lessons, practical tips, and a whole lot of heart.
Hope you guys enjoy.

Today Iām sharing an episode where I was the guest ā being interviewed by JoAnn Crohn and Brie Tucker on the No Guilt Mom podcast.
So, youāve decided you want a happier, calmer, and more connected family, eh? Well, friend, welcome to the rollercoaster ride known as āparenting with emotional intelligence.ā
Parenting often involves navigating different styles, which, being 100% honest, can sometimes feel like you and your partner are in a three-legged raceā¦on ice.
Emotional intelligence helps you understand each otherās perspectives and find common ground. Just imagine your kid having the ability to understand and manage their emotions while empathizing with others. Sounds like a dream, right?
By nurturing emotional intelligence, youāre not just preparing them for playground politics but equipping them for lifeās bigger challenges. Plus, who wouldnāt want a kid who can articulate their feelings instead of falling apart or throwing things in fits of anger?
So, if youāre dreaming of a happier, calmer, and more connected family, emotional intelligence is your secret weapon. Trust me, the journey might be bumpy, but the destination is oh-so-worth it.
Who knows, you might even become that zen parent who handles those spaghetti-throwing incidents with a smile. Now, thatās emotional intelligence at work!

Today Iām pulling back the curtain on my own experience with anxiety and how I overcame it with Emotional Intelligence.
From my early years as a shy, anxious kid to the struggles it brought me as a teen and adult ā especially when it came to school, confidence, and building my career ā Iām sharing it all. Why? Because I know so many of you, whether as parents or individuals, are grappling with anxiety, too.
I explore the different types of anxiety disorders (yes, thereās more than one!) and dig into the problematic thinking patterns that underpin and fuel anxiety. This gives you such a clear window into seeing how an anxious child thinks and perceives the world around them.
Whether youāve experienced anxiety yourself or you want to understand your kids through it, this episode is packed with insights, personal stories, and practical advice to help you build a life of calm and confidence.

Alex (the husband!) and I are getting real about the rollercoaster of raising kids in a world full of online games, social media, and YouTube.
We know the internet isnāt going anywhere, so instead of banning it all, we talk about finding that balance between letting our kids enjoy the digital world and keeping them safe.
We did make the decision to remove YouTube from our home, and we share why we chose to do it. But our kids do have access to computer games, Minecraft, Roblox, and so on.
Alex - whoās a big-time gamer - talks about setting smart boundaries for our kids on things like YouTube Kids and online games. His perspective as a gamer really adds a fresh angle, and heās seriously got some solid tips.
Oh, and there's a wild story from Alex about how our son decided to jump off the roof (yes, you read that right!). It was a reminder of why staying aware and tuned in is so important, no matter what your kids are up to.
We also tackle the tougher topic of online dangers, like predators, and how to talk to kids about staying safe. You absolutely NEED to give your kids the knowledge, without scaring them.
Tune in for our take on raising tech-savvy kids safelyāwithout saying ānoā to everything fun.

In this solo episode, Iām talking about Kids and Big Emotions: How to Dial Up Your Emotional Intelligence and Respond Calmly.
Hereās the thingābefore we can help our kids manage their emotions, we have to accept that they HAVE emotions. Emotions that are normal. Healthy. Natural. Supposed to be.
Remember when your child was learning to walk, read, or ride a bike? Did you step in and do it for them, rush them, or get annoyed when they didnāt get it right away? Or did you give them time, stay patient, and let them figure it out?!
Itās the same with emotions!
Kids need to feel their way through them in order to learn how to handle them. But we often jump in too quickly because itās uncomfortable or inconvenient to let them ride the emotional wave. The truth is, when we allow them to go through those messy feelings, weāre giving them the tools for self-regulation.
I'll tell you the one thing you can do that will completely shift how you handle things the next time your child is crying, stomping, or having a meltdown.
Iāll also be sharing a viral quote of mine that really hit home for so many parents. Ready to approach those big emotions with more calm and confidence? Letās get into it!

Get ready! Today we sit down with Eli Harwood, the brilliant mind (and heart) behind Instagramās hugely popular Attachment Nerd account.
Ever wondered if you are doing this parenting thing right? If you're too soft or permissive, too harsh and controlling, or doing okay? Even I swing between these like a pendulum sometimes!
Eli and I break down the different attachment styles and discuss how they show up in both children and adults.
She helps clear up common misconceptions about attachment theory and shares how emotional intelligence plays a crucial role in fostering secure attachments.
I love that we tackled the challenges of setting boundaries around technology and screen time. And here's some good news: parents don't have to be perfectly attuned to their kids 100% of the time.
This episode is packed with comforting truths and practical tips to help you raise emotionally resilient, confident, and kind children.

In this solo episode of the Emotionally Intelligent Parenting Podcast, I dive into a recent bedtime meltdown with one of our kids that could have gone COMPLETELY off the rails. And a few years ago, it totally would have. But, instead of losing my cool or resorting to punishing her for yelling and being "rude", I chose a different approach - one rooted in patience, empathy, and emotional intelligence.
I take you through exactly how I managed to stay calm (wasn't easy), change my perspective on her behaviour (super helpful), and co-regulate with her until we both found our way back to peace.... and her into bed!
I also share practical tips and strategies you can use when your child is having a tough, emotionally charged moment. I like to think this episode is a heartfelt reminder that even in the most challenging times, we have the power to be the parents our children need.
Enjoy! Steph.

This week I had the incredible opportunity to sit down with Noble Gibbens: the founder of EQ Boss, an Emotional Intelligence (EI) executive coach, devoted dad, loving husband, and all-around great guy.
Together, we delved into what it means to be an emotionally intelligent father and husband, and Noble shared heartfelt stories and transformative insights for both mums and dads.
Noble, having lived many years as an "emotionally unintelligent" dad and West Point grad, opened up about an earth-shattering moment with his wife that set him on his emotional intelligence journey.
He shared how he compassionately handles his daughter's emotions while maintaining boundaries, offering invaluable advice for all parents. One of the thought-provoking quotes he left me with was, "What you DO speaks so loudly I canāt hear what you SAY".
Plus, Noble introduced a powerful EI exercise for parents, perfect for getting started on shifting your family culture right away.
