  • In 2017 comedian James Acaster had a breakdown. This followed the end of his relationship with his long term partner and also his manager. He sort solace by immersing himself in the music of 2016, leading to him strongly believing that 2016 was the greatest year for music ever, amassing over 700 albums to prove it. We explore this claim and answer the question, was it really the best year for music ever?

  • Lets face it, most of us can't get away with walking very far barefoot. The first shoes emerged in the ice age in 40000bc and were made of bark. By 2023, the footwear industry is estimated to be worth around USD 403.18 billion.
It's hard to avoid footwear when it comes to songs. Red shoes are a particularly popular topic for example, as are celebrations of sneaker brands.
We're talking Shoes and Boots on today's episode.

  • Even as far back as ancient Greece, Plato believed in the power of music to affect and move the masses and suggested using it to inform and inspire people.
Modern protest reflects the modern world, so we're talking about how this is reflected in music. Covering such topics, such as; gender politics, the Black lives matter movement and the me too movement through the choice of five great tracks.

  • On todays episode we turn our attention to the theme of violence in music. Touching on such tales as the singer who couldn't stop stabbing people. To the artist known as "Killer", who once shot his bass player, and another time his own home with a machine gun to wake up his friends to carry on the party.

We are more peaceful characters at the pod, this is more our vibe,

  • In Season 1, we explored the music of our home town, Perth. We had so much fun, we decided to cast the net a bit further and for no reason whatsoever, settled on what's happening in Philadelphia. What we discovered is one of the most vibrant scenes in the US, and some new favourite bands for both of us. Don't forget to check out the playlist for this episode, its an absolute ripper.

  • Dave takes the lead on this episode, as we turn our attention to that time in everyone's lives when for better or worse, we all had to attend that institution known as school. Given that Dave's a teacher of many years, he is perfectly placed to unpack the topic and give us some insights from an adults perspective. As with every episode, we have 5 tracks to discuss and the accompanying playlist is right here.

  • We all love swearing right? Profanity in music has always been controversial, leading to bans on radio and television, which continue to this day. Remember those ludicrous parental advisory stickers in 80's America? On todays episode we choose 5 great tracks, going back as far as the 1930's to unpack this fascinating topic.
To gain full enjoyment of the show, make sure you check out the expletive riddled playlist, containing all the tracks and a whole lot more.

  • It's our 12th episode and this brings us to the close of season one. We finish up with part two of a musical love letter to our home town of Perth, Western Australia. We finish up our last four tracks but also discuss a bunch of other bands that we love and think you might too.
We've also got a ripper playlist for this one. It is probably our favourite of the season and we definitely recommend giving it a spin!
Cheers for listening to the first season of our podcast, we sincerely appreciate your support. We love doing it, it's a hobby, a lot of fun and a good chance for friends to catch up and enjoy the act of creating something. We live in a world of DIY, so go DIY!

If you have a theme you would like us to cover in season two, let us know!
