  • We were very fortunate to have the amazing and prolific Film Director, Jon Turteltaub, talk with us. He was a senior when we were freshmen at Beverly High. He got his first big break directing 3 Ninjas, which led to getting Cool Runnings. Then he went on to direct Phenomenon with John Travolta, the Kid with Bruce Willis and the National Treasure films with his old classmate Nicolas Cage. That’s just naming a few of his movies. He also Produces and Directs TV shows such as Jericho. He gives us all the inside scoop on being a director from BH and we also discuss his father who was a legendary writer on the Carol Burnette Show, Sanford and Son and What’s Happening. We also get into some of the humanitarian efforts he does to give back. He's got great stories about his career, working with Nicolas Cage, and even a story about Tom Hanks.

  • We have on the incredibly talented writer, producer, tv show creator - David Kohan. We talk about his brilliant family, how he caused Nick Cage to quit High School, how his career started and lots of great stuff about Will and Grace (including how the characters came about). Look for more new tv shows from David and his creative partner Max Mutchnick (another Beverly alum) after this writers strike ends. Until then keep watching Will and Grace, but I probably didn't have to prompt you to do that.

  • In this episode we talk with our classmate, Ryan Cassidy. After doing some acting in Facts of Life, Ryan found his calling in the art department (a profession that combines so many of his passions and makes great use of his creativity). Ryan comes from an extremely talented and successful family and he discusses this aspect of his life and all others openly and sincerely. He's got a new book out that he wrote (adding author to his many talents). The book is about his experience as a kid spending an afternoon with James Cagney.

The book is available at Amazon and other book sellers:

  • Robert Mitchell is on the cutting edge of helping people heal and explore their lives with the help of psychedelics. We get into a fascinating conversation about that along with his unconventional upbringing. His mother, Gwen Davis, was a brilliant author and as Robert describes a "Zelig character", who was always around some of the most interesting people no matter where she went. His father, Don, was a tv producer whose credits include The Carol Burnett Show and The Oscars. Robert was a great guest, is a great person and we had a ton of laughs and really enjoyed having him on. We think you'll enjoy it too.

  • In this episode we talk with the amazing, Mandana Yamin. She was in our High School class of ‘84, but we learned so much more about her from this talk and what it was like to move from Iran to Beverly Hills. Her family came from Iran via Italy before the Shah was overthrown in ‘79. She was lucky to get out early before the revolution when the Ayatollah Khomeini took over. Her family was able to establish themselves in Beverly Hills early before they were forced to leave their country like so many other families. Beverly Hills is now 20% Iranian so Mandana’s story is a key part of the history of Beverly Hills and represents a time when Iran/US relations were extremely tense. It was amazing to hear how the Persian community of immigrants were able to support each other and really succeed.

Mandana's an amazing mother and has launched a great career doing interior design:

  • In this episode we talk to Eden Sassoon. We knew her sister in high school and have many friends in common, but we didn't know Eden. She talks about her famous father, the amazing Vidal Sassoon and her mother who was a Hollywood actress, Beverly Adams. She's owned a hair salon, Pilates studios, and even did a season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She's not afraid to talk honestly about the big issues and has her own podcast about sobriety called the Redeem yourself podcast.

  • In this episode we have an incredible artist - Daniel Maltzman

You'll hear about how he started in the la club scene and kept working at his passion for art.  Danny's art has a big and bold pop style. He incorporates the influence of advertising into his work and dives into his passion for sports in other pieces. He has a variety of collections that are quite inspiring. He's collected by notables such as Justin Bieber, Paris Hilton and Steve Tisch. He's also represented by galleries across the country, but also sells directly. Danny is incredibly charitable with his time, creating and donating art to many great causes.

  • In this episode we have Charles Rosin or Chuck. He graduated Beverly High in 1970 and we had a great talk about what the school was like in the 60’s. We got talking about politics and some of the historic events he lived through before getting to his prolific writing and producing career. He wrote on two of my all time favorite shows The White Shadow and Northern Exposure. He’s best known for his work on BH 90210. It was great to hear his stories about this show that was so popular around the world and so Beverly Hills. Now he does a weekly podcast about it:

  • This episode features Nancy Radin, if you went to Beverly Hills High School you might know her by her maiden name Nancy Fishman. She graduated from Beverly in 1970 and not long after came back to teach there in the Drama Department. Nancy and the other teachers had a profound influence on so many kids and so many of those kids are now bigshots in show business. Nancy talks about all her time at Beverly and also about her fight against cancer and how she uses her friends and humor to get through it. She keeps her spark through being a grandmother and continuing to do creative projects.

Read her book: My Big C: Still Here After All These Years.

  • In this episode we talk to the lovely, talented and funny Mindy Rickles. Mindy started as an actor and moved into comedy just the way her famous father the legendary Don Rickles did. She grew up in Beverly Hills her whole childhood, but only spent the 11 and 12th grade in public school at Beverly High. She describes herself as painfully shy as a kid, but had no problem getting up in front of a big audience and telling jokes. Check her out on Historic Roasts on Netflix (the one roasting Anne Frank) and coming soon to a comedy club near you.

  • We were so happy to catch up with our classmate Sophia Grant. She is the Chief of Medical Services for the Riverside County Child Assessment Team and Medical Director of the Sexual Assault and Forensic Assessment Team. Sophia's parents are Jamaican and her father had an amazing journey from living with a dirt floor in Jamaica to becoming a doctor living in Beverly Hills. Sophia talks about her experiences growing up black in Beverly Hills, which is not a diverse city. She also talks about going to medical school at Meharry Medical College, which is a historically black college. Getting to go from a minority to the majority during her education gave her some really amazing insights that I wish everyone could experience. There's a lot to learn from in this episode and a lot of fun stories about Growing Up Beverly Hills!

  • Claudia Wells joins Growing Up Beverly Hills for the Second Part of a two part Episode. In this part we start with talking about her role in Back to the Future. There's plenty of new info for the fans in this episode, but there's also just a lot to learn about life. Claudia opens up about some of the struggles she's had and is an inspiration in how with her faith everything seems to have worked out as it should have.

Although Claudia is best known for her role as Jennifer Parker (Marty's Girlfriend) in Back to the Future, David and Stacy remember her early acting parts and when she moved to Beverly Hills in the 8th grade. She started working in the opera when she was 8 years old and then got a guest role on the TV show Family before moving. She landed a ton of roles all before the age of 18 including Fame, Babies Having Babies, the sitcom adaptation of Fast Times at Ridgemont High and the Herbie the Love Bug tv series to name a few. Claudia also owns a great men's store, Armani Wells, where you can make an appointment and have Claudia style you herself. She is also an amazing mother and gives so much to charity and the fans.
