  • The USC Triple-Double Podcast returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) talking about USC men's basketball's non-conference schedule for the upcoming 2024-25 season, the first under new head coach Eric Musselman, as well as the Trojans' recruiting efforts for future classes.
Shotgun and Connor also answer some of your questions, taking user-submitted questions from social media and The Peristyle. They discuss the potential pace USC may try to play with this season as it goes to the Big Ten, knowing Musselman has played at a quicker tempo in the past but not in the rugged midwestern conference that is known for physical battles and swallowed whistles.
But then everything the podcasting duo says is overshadowed as new USC head coach Eric Musselman joins the show for the first time. The energetic Musselman talks about how he's constantly learning and taking lessons from other sports and other coaches. He also discusses how learning his new roster is coming along as the Trojans pull together 15 previously-unknown-to-each-other pieces and try to mesh into a cohesive unite.
The head coach talks about the lessons he learned in the transfer portal, particularly from last year's cycle when Arkansas netted a talented roster that could beat the best teams in the country but never melded together into a consistent, cohesive unit. Musselman also reveals why versatility was such an important element in their recruiting efforts this offseason.

  • Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football prodcast. The Helium Boys are back to break down USC's 48-0 thrashing of Utah State in the Trojans' home opener and discuss how the Trojans should be evaluated entering their bye week before a huge showdown with Michigan.
The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill.' Shotgun raves about how good the Trojan defense has looked under the defensive staff of D'Anton Lynn, Eric Henderson, Matt Entz and Doug Belk after USC notched its first shutout in 13 years. Chris then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to talk about how important blowout victories are for the development of a program because of the opportunities it allows young players to get on the field, get their feet wet and get adjusted to the speed and physicality of the college game..
Chris and Shotgun then dive into their stocks in Stock Up/Stock Down looking at what players or elements were elevated or took a hit based on preseason expectations and the first game of the season. Both Helium Boys gush about the play of linebacker Eric Gentry, who seems to be having more fun than anyone in the stadium on game days and who is having a huge impact on a play-in, play-out basis. Shotgun goes as far as to put Gentry on All-American watch with the way he has shined through the first two games. There is plenty of stocks on the rise after a 48-0 win with Miller Moss, the running back group, young defenders and Lake McRee's surgeon all getting some love. The Stock Down section is much shorter as is to be expected, but one element Shotgun harps on is the receivers catching.
After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing among other things what it will take for the Trojans to be able to keep Lynn around for more than one season and what kind of adjustments Lynn can make against a Michigan offense that has struggled thus far. They also give their suggestions for an improved Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and talk about Lincoln Riley's red zone passing game play calling. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its around rankings and player performances.

  • In this special edition of Tunnel Vision hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio chatting with Wyoming defensive line transfer Gavin Meyer, who since arriving at Troy has started both games this season and tipped a pass against Utah State that turned into an interception.
Ryan and Connor chat with Meyer about his decision to come to USC, what the off-season workouts were like, the atmosphere playing in Las Vegas and in the Coliseum for the first time, D'Anton Lynn's defense and earning the starting spot for a nationally ranked Power Four team.

  • On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about this Trojan football team improving to 2-0 on the young season following the 48-0 home opening victory over Utah State late Saturday night in the Coliseum. The Coach talks about what he liked on the offensive side of the ball, especially how the run game finally got going. On defense he thinks the No. 1 thing is how improved the tackling has been and that was a major part in the Trojans pitching a shutout against the Aggies.
The guys also take a look at what USC needs to do during the bye week to get prepared for the Trojans first Big Ten conference game, a tough road trip to a Michigan squad that is licking its wounds this week after getting pushed around by Texas. This game looks much more winnable than it did just a couple of weeks ago, so Lincoln Riley and his staff need to prepare this team for a business trip to Ann Arbor.

  • On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Jack Smith and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio previewing the home opener for the No. 13 USC Trojans, who face off against Utah State from the Mountain West. The guys talk about what they know from the Aggies who won their opener against Robert Morris and how the Trojan defenders could face off against a familiar face at quarterback with former Utah signal caller Bryson Barnes (aka the "Pig Farmer") potentially starting for the injured Spencer Petras.
Before the crew gets into their detailed preview of Saturday night's contest in the Coliseum they welcome in linebacker Mason Cobb who sealed the victory over LSU with his last second interception. Cobb had four tackles, the aforementioned interception and one pass breakup and was part of a linebacker crew that performed extremely well against the Tigers Sunday night in Las Vegas.
The guys also talk about Caleb Williams getting his No. 13 retired (the same number Mason Cobb wears incidentally) and his jersey along with the No. 5 jersey of Reggie Bush being put up under the Peristyle in the Coliseum.
The interview with Cobb was conducted in conjunction with House of Victory, an alumni-backed nonprofit collective dedicated to providing a competitive edge in the NIL space for University of Southern California student-athletes.

  • In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio taking a look back at USC's incredible season opening win over LSU in Las Vegas. In the days after the victory the guys have been able to rewatch the game plus hear from Lincoln Riley on Trojans Live and following Tuesday's practice. On the show they share their thoughts on what else they have learned since coming back from Las Vegas.
Going into the game the guys talked about the defense needing to get better and the offense needing to not take a step back with the departure of Caleb Williams. Coming out of it they talk about what they liked about this Trojan offense, defense and special teams and what they saw that could be areas of concern going forward into the Big Ten schedule.
The celebration on the field was glorious, but after a day off the Trojans were back to work getting ready for Utah State on a short week. Riley talked about the challenges of getting the team ready with one less day of preparation and how there were areas USC needed to get better in to build on that LSU victory. Ryan and Connor talk discuss what they know about the Aggies and if there is any concern about a post-victory "hangover" Saturday night in the Coliseum.

  • The Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football prodcast, returns with Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino breaking down USC's 27-20 victory in the final seconds of the Vegas Kickoff Classic over No. 13 LSU and look forward to this week's matchup against Utah State.
The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill.' Chris compares the atmosphere at Allegiant Stadium and the gameplay between two good teams to a College Football Playoff game while Shotgun talks about how quickly the game seemed to flash by with so many quality plays being made similarly to the previous CFP game he's covered -- the 2018 Rose Bowl between a Lincoln Riley-led Oklahoma team that fell to Georgia in overtime -- but he points out how that game ended with more than 100 points being scored compared to basically half of that output Sunday night.
Chris and Shotgun then dive into their stocks in Stock Up/Stock Down looking at what players or elements were elevated or took a hit based on initial expectations. Chris mentions the improved special teams efforts that helped flip the field for USC while Shotgun brings up how preconceived notions of this team and its ceiling this season have to be thrown out after the way Miller Moss connected with his playmakers and the defense showed it's on a completely different level than it has been in recent years. Both Helium Boys also show some love for the tight ends and talk about the amount of joy being had by both players and fans in cardinal and gold.
After a break, the podcast duo look forward to the Trojans' home opener this week previewing the key storyline, player and matchup for the Utah State game. The Helium Boys also answer your mailbag questions primarily about the defensive play calling of D'Anton Lynn with some mention of recruiting and what the win over LSU means for the Trojans' future. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its around rankings and player performances.

  • Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino are back together for a special behind-the-scenes edition of the Helium Boys Podcast. The Helium Boys work through the process of compiling and debating a post-fall camp re-rank of USCfootball.com's Top 30 Most Important Trojans' list.
For the last five seasons, the USCfootball.com staff has counted down the Top 30 Most Important Trojans in a series of offseason articles leading up to the kickoff of fall camp. Each year under Lincoln Riley, the USC roster has seen significant turnover each year making it a bit of a guessing game trying to figure our who is going to play and how valuable they are going to be toward the team's success, so we've incorporated a re-rank when the Trojans' football team makes the transition from fall camp to game preparation in the week leading up to the season opener.
Each USCfootball.com staff member submits his own list of whom he/she believes will be the most important Trojans. Considerations for the rankings take in a wide range of factors including positional depth, 2023 stats, overall talent, departures from the previous season, projected development and expectations. The only guidance we try to follow is that the most important factor for placement is if this particular player was lost for the season, how detrimental would it be to the team and the overall success of the season. The individual lists are submitted and compiled before Shotgun and Chris come together to sift through the information, debate and assemble the official USCfootball.com rankings.
In this podcast, the Helium Boys give you a peek behind the curtain, allowing you to listen in on the re-rankings discussion as we sift, sort and come up with the final preseason rankings. The re-rank includes several risers on the defensive side of the ball, including Gavin Meyer and Anthony Lucas, as well as players whose importance declined whether through an inability to lock up a starting role or the emergence of other players.

  • On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Jack Smith and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are finally back in studio to give a detailed preview of USC's first game of the 2024 college football season, a neutral site matchup against the No. 13 LSU Tigers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
All three hosts (along with Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino) will be in Vegas for the game and they are excited as anyone to watch and talk about real football after a long off-season of quiet rebuilding for the Trojans. There is a lot of doubt about this USC squad that needs to replace Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams and somehow get significantly better on defense, but head coach Lincoln Riley made a lot of moves, including a stacked defensive staff, and he appears to be ready to jump in and make the first year in the Big Ten a successful one.
The guys talk about some of those improvements that were made and how that can help USC get off to a fast start to the season with a potential win over a top-15 opponent from the SEC. They also discuss what they know about the Tigers, who have a lot of similarities to the Trojans, having to replace a Heisman winner and make vast improvements on the defensive side of the ball.

  • Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino reunite for the Helium Boys Podcast to discuss the gloriousness that is the return of college football with No. 23 USC set to take on No. 13 LSU in the Modelo Vegas Kickoff Classic Sunday at Allegiant Stadium (4:30 p.m. PST; ABC).
The Helium Boys preview the 2024 season and the opener against the Bayou Bengals with a new format as well as bringing back a couple of favorite segments from podcasts past Take It or Leave It and the Overtime period. They also answer your questions.
But the episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill,' which takes on new meaning this season in college football with the implementation of a two-minute warning stoppage. Shotgun makes sure to get in a quick run of Stock Ups heading into the season during his two minutes while Chris initially has to wait to get the call in his headset as he mimics the new technology that will be allowed on the field for the first time in college football this season.
Chris and Shotgun then dive into the approaching season opener and the opportunity that it is for both the Trojans and the Tigers -- two programs that enter as nearly mirror images as the similarities range up and down the gamut of storylines heading into the first game. They look at the key storyline as well as the player that could be a difference maker and the matchup that could determine the outcome. They also play a little 'fill in the blank' with the causation of a USC win and loss.
After a break, Chris quizzes Shotgun with Take It or Leave It. The Helium Boys also answer your mailbag questions about a number of topics spanning from the defensive coordinator preferences and how to best assess preseason intrasquad scrimmages before a couple of Vegas themed inquiries. The episode concludes with the Overtime section focused on Olympic sports Chris wants Shotgun to make a determination on.

  • The Helium Boys Podcast returns with Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino back behind the microphones to break down and react to Miller Moss being named the Trojans' starting quarterback after USC announced Lincoln Riley's decision Monday evening. The podcast also features an assessment of other notable position battles for the Trojans as they head into mock game week with the season opener less than two weeks away, and later in the episode, Chris breaks out the Over/Under betting lines to get Shotgun's feel on how the USC team will perform this season.
This Helium Boys episode opens in a unique way as Shotgun is too excited about the impending college football season and skips right past the podcast staple opening 'Two-Minute Drill.' Instead the podcast duo jump right into the conversation about the impending season and Riley's decision to name his starting quarterback. Chris nearly gets pinned in the corner when thrown a potential comparison of this year's quarterback battle and decision with the one Clay Helton made in 2016 choosing Max Browne to start over Sam Darnold to open the season.
Chris and Shotgun also break down some of the other position battles for the Trojans, including a couple like the right guard and inside linebacker spots that seem as if a decision may have already been made and a couple others on the defensive side that will continue at least for the next two weeks.
After a break, Chris quizzes Shotgun with his Over/Under lines. The Helium Boys also answer your mailbag questions about recruiting, quarterbacks and the potential of the Trojans' offense this season.

  • In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio chatting with sophomore defensive end Braylan Shelby. USC is looking for a significant improvement on defense and Shelby could play a key role, coming off the edge and putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

Ryan and Connor chat with Shelby about his experience playing as a true freshman, his gains during the off-season, working in the new D'Anton Lynn defense, how fall camp is doing and lots more.
