(20:15) - WNBA: Angel Reese or Caitlin Clark for ROTY?

    (38:10) - Kevin Durant interview

    (48:30) - Steph Curry interview

On this episode of the Good Word with Goodwill, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill tackles the news of the day and talks a little WNBA before interviewing Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry.

Monica McNutt from ESPN and MSG joins Vinnie to talk about Giannis Antetokounmpo sending Team Greece to the Paris Olympics and whether the Milwaukee Bucks (and Miami Heat) should be worrying about their lack of offseason moves.

The Sacramento Kings added DeMar DeRozan in a sign-and-trade that left everyone wondering how the Kings offense will operate with three star players that like to play in similar ways, but Monica has an idea that might just work.

Vince and Monica try to talk about the Spurs, who added Harrison Barnes from the Kings in the DeRozan sign-and-trade, and end up talking for a bit about the terrifying future of Team France and comps for Jeremy Sochan’s hair.

Monica made some waves recently by saying that she would vote for Angel Reese over Caitlin Clark for this year’s WNBA Rookie of the Year Award, so we talked about it and found that there is a path for Clark to win the award
she has to get the Indiana Fever to the WNBA Playoffs.

Finally, Vince is in Las Vegas with Team USA and got time to sit down and chat with Kevin Durant and Steph Curry on Sunday. Durant discussed the rumors about him wanting out of Phoenix, how long he’ll keep playing and a lot more. Curry talked about his first time on Team USA, life without Klay Thompson in Golden State and if he’ll stay with the Warriors even if they’re not winning.

(03:05) - LeBron James signs 2-year deal to stay with Lakers

(15:40) - Klay Thompson joins Mavericks

    (39:20) - The People’s Notebook - NBA rumors

    (65:00) - Who’s This Guy? (Hartenstein & Avdija)

    (81:00) - VIBE CHECK: The 2nd Apron

On this extra long episode of No Cap Room, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Jake Fischer and Yahoo Sports senior NBA writer Dan Devine recap the last few days of free agency, including LeBron James’ ill-fated plans to take a paycut in hopes of the Lakers adding another star to the roster.

Klay Thompson, who was the most likely candidate to fill that spot for the Lakers, instead joins the Dallas Mavericks. Dan and Jake explain why getting away from the spotlight in Golden State (and L.A.) might be exactly what Klay needs at this point in his career.

Donovan Mitchell signed an extension to stay in Cleveland and, eventually, make himself a ton more money. Jayson Tatum signed the richest contract in NBA history right before the Boston Celtics majority owner went public with plans to sell the team, which seems to be a trend around the league.

Jake opens up The People’s Notebook to share all of the rumors that he’s been hearing about Lauri Markkanen’s trade market, Brandon Ingram’s contract negotiations with the Pelicans, DeMar DeRozan’s remaining options in free agency and a bunch more.

The guys play a round of Who’s This Guy?, where they describe a player using only comps to other NBA players. This time, it’s Dan explaining Isaiah Hartenstein to the Oklahoma City Thunder fans with a comparison to Victor Wembanyama and Jake explaining Deni Avdija to Portland Trail Blazers fans that may have not watched the Wizards before.

Finally, the second apron has been the talk of NBA free agency, so we do a quick vibe check on it to see if it’s bad for the players, the owners or the fans. How did it affect Paul George’s negotiations with the Clippers and how will it affect the NBA going forward?

  • Vincent Goodwill and Sam Amick from The Athletic catch up on NBA free agency after the first day of movement, including Paul George leaving the Clippers to sign with the 76ers.

    (01:40) - Paul George signs with 76ers

(12:10) - Clippers sign James Harden & Derrick Jones Jr.

(21:50) - Chris Paul signs with Spurs

    (29:30) - Kentavious Caldwell-Pope signs with Magic

(34:00) - Isaiah Hartenstein signs with Thunder

(38:25) - Pistons hire J.B. Bickerstaff, sign Tobias Harris

(48:50) - Where will Brandon Ingram be traded?

(52:20) - What to expect from Jimmy Butler?

On this episode of the Good Word with Goodwill, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill is joined by Sam Amick from The Athletic to rundown all of the news coming out of the first night of NBA free agency.

The guys start things off with the biggest news, that Paul George is leaving the Los Angeles Clippers for the Philadelphia 76ers. The guys talk about the fit for George in Philly, and explain how losing one of their biggest contracts could end up being a silver lining for the Clippers as they open their new arena.

Speaking of the Clippers, they re-signed James Harden for less than the max and also signed Derrick Jones Jr. as an athletic replacement for Paul George in the starting lineup. The guys talk about where the Clippers go from here and how concerned they are about Kawhi Leonard playing for Team USA this summer.

Chris Paul, fresh off being waived by the Golden State Warriors, signed a one-year deal to join Victor Wembanyama in San Antonio. Sam likens this year with the Spurs to CP3’s previous one-year stop with the Oklahoma City Thunder and explains how Paul could help bridge the age gap between Wemby and Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich.

The guys talk about Kentavious Caldwell-Pope signing with the Orlando Magic, but mostly they talk about the Denver Nuggets losing talent since winning the title last year and the restraints of the new CBA.

Isaiah Hartenstein was the best free agent center on the market, and he’s a perfect fit for the Oklahoma City Thunder, who signed him early this morning. Sam Presti continues to put together an incredible roster that should be ready to compete for a title right now.

As Vince works us into “The Outlet”, where we talk about non-free agency news, the guys spend some time talking about the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons hired the recently-fired J.B. Bickerstaff as their new head coach, are working on a max extension for Cade Cunningham and signed free agent veteran forward Tobias Harris. They have a long way to go, but that’s an excellent start for a new rebuild in Detroit.

While talking about Jonas ValančiĆ«nas signing with the Washington Wizards, the guys end up discussing Brandon Ingram on the Pelicans and where he might end up in a trade.

Finally, Sam wants to know from Vinnie what he thinks we should expect from Jimmy Butler going forward. What kind of year will he have? Is there still a chance for an extension in Miami?

  • Dan Devine and The Ringer’s Michael Pina talk about what they liked, and what they didn’t, coming out of the 2024 NBA Draft and recap some of the recent trades that have happened.

(01:30) - NBA Draft cheers (Timberwolves, Spurs)

(13:20) - NBA Draft jeers (Nuggets, Bronny James)

(36:24) - How good are the Knicks after trading for Mikal Bridges?

(48:30) - Who won the POR/WSH Deni Avdija trade?

(53:00) - Mavericks trade Tim Hardaway Jr. to DET for Quentin Grimes

(55:55) - Is Paul George underrated or overrated?

(63:30) - Are the Chicago Bulls finally tanking?

(66:40) - Where will Brandon Ingram end up?

On this episode of No Cap Room, Dan Devine and The Ringer’s Michael Pina get together to talk hoops while Jake Fischer takes a day to recover from the 2024 NBA Draft.

The guys start with what they liked (Minnesota being aggressive, San Antonio being patient) from the 2024 NBA Draft, as well as what they didn’t like (Denver trading away Reggie Jackson, all of the attention on Bronny James).

While revisiting the trade that sent Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets to the New York Knicks, Dan and Michael go through the Knicks roster and wonder how that team will stack up in the Eastern Conference next season.

The guys hit a couple of more trades quickly, talking about Deni Avdija being sent from the Washington Wizards to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Malcolm Brogdon and draft assets before discussing the breaking news of Tim Hardaway Jr. being traded (along with draft picks) from the Dallas Mavericks to the Detroit Pistons, bringing back for Knicks guard Quentin Grimes.

As a way to get into NBA free agency, which starts in about two days, the guys talk about all of the different options in front of Paul George and debate whether or not he is underrated or overrated. The guys also talk about the Chicago Bulls, whether they’ll bring back DeMar DeRozan, and if they have finally started tanking.

We end the show with a conversation about Brandon Ingram, who is likely to be traded this offseason. Michael believes that he is a superstar hiding in plain sight and can’t wait to see him land in a better situation for his skill set.

    (41:15) - Reed Sheppard

The first round of the 2024 NBA Draft is finally in the books after months of lead-up. While the first two picks were somewhat expected in French products Zaccharie Risacher & Alex Sarr, the rest of the night was surely full of unexpected twists and turns.

Krysten Peek closes out night one of the draft alongside Yahoo Sports NBA contributor Tom Haberstroh and Portland Trail Blazers TV analyst Lamar Hurd. The crew kicks off the show by sharing their three biggest surprises of the night: the first of which was the surprising selection of Purdue center Zach Edey by the Memphis Grizzlies with the ninth overall pick.

Later in the show, the group runs through some of the biggest storylines of the night, including the aforementioned chalkiness atop the draft and why four French players selected in the first round continues the "Wemby Wave" of international players sweeping the sport — a trend that has no signs of stopping.

Closing out the episode, Krysten, Tom & Lamar talk about what to expect in Thursday's second round of the draft, including a theory on why Bronny James might not end up with the Los Angeles Lakers overall, and Krysten puts a bow on the episode by talking about the highly coveted rookie class of 2025.

(38:55) - Concerns over Michael Jordan’s 1988 Defensive Player of the Year Award

On this episode of the Good Word with Goodwill, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill covers the breaking news of the Cleveland Cavaliers hiring Kenny Atkinson as their new head coach. Vince wonders if the team ownership getting involved in the process is good for the organization, but he still has high hopes for Evan Mobley and the future of the Cavs.

We haven’t had a chance to discuss the Los Angeles Lakers officially hiring JJ Redick as their new head coach, and Vinnie is curious if the other players in the locker room will view Redick or LeBron James as the actual person in charge.

The Detroit Pistons fired Monty Williams last week, another move made by team ownership more than the front office, and now we’ll wait to see which free agent coach they hire to replace him and what they do with Cade Cunningham’s extension.

After detailing why the Chicago Bulls would trade for Josh Giddey, and how Alex Caruso fits with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Vinnie welcomes Yahoo Sports NBA draft analyst Kysten Peek to the show to preview the festivities, predict what the Hawks will do with the #1 pick, and provide her hottest take on Zach Eden.

Finally, Tom Haberstroh joins Vincent to talk about his article on Yahoo Sports that laid out the case for doubt around the legitimacy of Michael Jordan’s 1988 Defensive Player of the Year Award.

  • On today's episode of On The Clock, Krysten Peek is joined by The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor to discuss the biggest risers one week out from the 2024 NBA Draft.

After sharing their love for the unpredictability of the draft, they direct their attention towards the latest on Bronny James. They focus specifically on comments made recently by his agent Rich Paul and if anyone but the Los Angeles Lakers could select him.

They move on to projecting what could happen with the first overall pick. Peek questions if it would be best for the Atlanta Hawks to trade away their biggest stars and start from scratch.

Peek asks O'Connor who his favorite prospect in the class is and to share his thoughts on the latest risers like Devin Carter, Zach Edey, Cam Christie, and DaRon Holmes.

To wrap the show, Peek asks O'Connor to share who he thinks the Hawks should draft with the first overall pick if he was their general manager.

  • Jake Fischer and Dan Devine go through the NBA news of the week, preview the start of free agency and do a vibe check on the Golden State Warriors.

    (01:25) - Five Out

(02:35) - Pistons fire Monty Williams

(08:35) - Jeff Van Gundy joins Clippers coaching staff

(12:33) - Mark Cuban no longer running the Mavericks

(16:35) - Joe Mazzulla knee surgery

(23:00) - Rich Paul on Bronny James

(30:00) - NBA offseason key dates

    (31:45) - 2024 NBA free agency preview

(54:15) - VIBE CHECK: Golden State Warriors

On this episode of No Cap Room, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Jake Fischer and Yahoo Sports senior NBA writer Dan Devine talk about everything that’s going on in the NBA this week (NOTE: This episode was recorded before the Lakers hired JJ Redick and before the Bulls-Thunder trade).

The guys start things off by talking about Monty Williams, who has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the Detroit Pistons this week. The guys explain why Detroit made the move now and what to expect next from the Pistons and Williams.

Jeff Van Gundy is leaving the champion Boston Celtics to become an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Clippers, which feels weird for a former successful NBA head coach who has been an ESPN broadcaster for almost 20 years. Dan explores why Van Gundy is getting back into coaching for a third act in his life.

Now that the NBA Finals have concluded, it was revealed that Mark Cuban is no longer running basketball operations for the Dallas Mavericks. No longer will every Mavericks decision need to be made by Cuban, and that will be odd but also a sign that this team is starting to become more like every other team in the NBA.

After talking about Joe Mazzulla needing knee surgery, the guys talk for a bit about how Rich Paul has handled the NBA Draft on behalf of Bronny James and what it might mean for his early NBA career.

Jake goes through some of the important NBA offseason dates coming up this summer before the guys dive into a preview of the start of NBA free agency. Jake talks about which big dominoes will determine what happens with everyone else and Dan wonders how much better the Oklahoma City Thunder might get this offseason.

Finally, the Golden State Warriors are trying to be competitive with some future Hall of Famers on the roster, but might it finally be time to consider blowing it up and starting over? The Warriors are paying a ton of money in tax and continue to miss the playoffs.

  • Jake Fischer and Dan Devine recap game 5 of the NBA Finals, which saw the Boston Celtics win their 18th NBA championship with Jaylen Brown winning Finals MVP.

(01:10) - REACTION: Celtics win 18th NBA championship

(35:40) - Boston Celtics offseason preview

(48:15) - Dallas Mavericks offseason preview

On this episode of No Cap Room, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Jake Fischer is at TD Garden and soaked in champagne after watching the Boston Celtics celebrate their record-breaking 18th NBA championship after defeating the Dallas Mavericks in 5 games.

The guys start by talking about Jayson Tatum, who showed off his skills as a passer, and maybe exorcized some demons along the way, while leading the Celtics in every major offensive category during the NBA Finals.

They then turn their attention to Kyrie Irving, who still seems plagued by the Boston crowd. While he didn’t react to it, he definitely played much better in Dallas than he did in front of the heckling Celtics fans.

Luka Doncic once again looked disengaged, especially on defense, leading Jake to declare his disappointment that Luka could respond to criticism in such a big way in game 4 and then not carry any of that through to game 5.

Jaylen Brown was voted Finals MVP, and the guys talk about why Brown won that vote over Tatum and Jrue Holiday, namely that he was the guy who took charge every time the Celtics seemed to need somebody to do so. Then they talk about Brown’s growth, and compare him to the two guys picked ahead of him in the NBA Draft (Ben Simmons & Brandon Ingram).

Finally, the guys talk about offseason decisions that are facing both the Celtics and Mavericks and wonder about the path each team will have to face if they want to make it back to the NBA Finals next season.

  • Vincent Goodwill and Isis “Ice” Young recap game 4 of the NBA Finals, which saw the Dallas Mavericks crush the Celtics to send the series back to Boston.

(01:05) - Mavericks win game 4, send NBA Finals back to Boston

(14:40) - Luka Doncic responds to criticism

    (20:25) - NBA Finals game 5 preview

(28:55) - Who will be Finals MVP?

On this episode of the Good Word with Goodwill, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill is joined by new Yahoo Sports contributor Isis “Ice” Young to break down how the Mavericks dominated the Celtics on Friday night.

Vince and Ice kick off the show by talking about the Mavericks playing with force, on both offense and defense, and how it aligned with Dereck Lively’s quote about being the aggressor against the Celtics.

Luka Doncic, who has been criticized by almost everybody in the media, played with pride and put together one of his best two-way performances of the playoffs. Ice says that the criticism was warranted, but only because Luka is regarded as one of the best basketball players in the world and should play more consistent defense.

Meanwhile, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown looked lost against the Dallas defense, as did pretty much everyone on the Celtics. What can change before game 5 in Boston? Will Kyrie Irving be as effective in Boston as he has been in Dallas?

Finally, Vinnie and Ice debate on who the Finals MVP would be right now and make guesses as to who will be named Finals MVP by the end of the series. Also, both of them make spicy predictions on what will happen in game 5 on Monday.

  • On today's episode of On The Clock, Krysten Peek is joined by Swish Culture's founder and CEO Jordan Richard to discuss international prospects and big American names in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Peek first asks Richard his thoughts on Colorado prospect Cody Williams and where he best fits in the NBA. They cover the potential landing spot of pairing with his brother, Jalen Williams, in Oklahoma City.

They move on to two big names in the class: Zach Edey and Bronny James. Peek shares her firm stance on where Edey deserves to be drafted, while Richard dives deep into James' work ethic.

After the break, Peek asks Richard's thoughts on how international prospects differ from American ones. Richard shares how they see the game differently and their focus on fundamentals.

  • Jake Fischer and Dan Devine talk about their experiences at game 3 of the NBA Finals and wonder if the series could be a wake-up call for Luka Doncic.

    (00:00) - Hello friends!

(05:30) - NBA Finals: Celtics take 3-0 lead in Dallas

    (34:50) - NBA coaching news

    (40:20) - Cavaliers coaching search

    (47:00) - Lakers coaching search

On this episode of No Cap Room, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Jake Fischer and Yahoo Sports senior NBA writer Dan Devine are in Dallas following the Boston Celtics’ game 3 win in the NBA Finals that gave them a 3-0 series lead.

The guys kick off the show by talking about how they were dressed for the event, which led to some mockery by other members of the media when Jake and Vincent Goodwill wore the same color suit.

Eventually, we get to the basketball game. Everything looks easy for the Boston Celtics, who seem to be cruising towards a sweep. Meanwhile, everything seems very difficult for Luka Doncic and the other Dallas Mavericks.

The guys talk for a while about Luka fouling out of game 3, his penchant for complaining to the refs, his fitness and his abhorrent defense. Will being embarrassed on this stage lead Luka to change his on-court and off-court actions?

After the ad break, the guys get into the coaching news and rumors around the NBA, starting with the Pistons and Monty Williams. It would be expensive to part with Monty, but it’s apparently one option in front of new Pistons President of Basketball Operations Trajan Langdon.

Jake then talks about James Borrego, who appears to be the front-runner to get the job as the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers and should be able to get more out of their offense than J.B. Bickerstaff did.

The guys then discuss the Lakers, who are still interviewing candidates after striking out on recruiting Dan Hurley over the weekend. Is JJ Redick still the favorite to win the job? What are the other choices? And who do the Lakers even want to be after LeBron James retires?

  • Vincent Goodwill and Dan Devine get together after game 2 of the 2024 NBA Finals, with the Celtics taking a 2-0 lead over the Mavericks, to talk about what happened and what comes next.

    (00:00) - Introduction

    (01:00) - NBA FINALS: Celtics 105, Mavericks 98

(20:50) - Jrue Holiday, Finals MVP?

    (25:30) - NBA Finals game 3 & 4 preview

    (30:35) - Kristaps Porzingis injury

On this very special episode of the Good Word with Goodwill, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill chats with Yahoo Sports senior NBA writer Dan Devine after the conclusion of game 2 of the 2024 NBA Finals.

The Boston Celtics won in commanding fashion, yet again, and took a 2-0 lead over the Mavericks before the series shifts to Dallas.

Vinnie and Dan talk about how Boston is managing to shut down the previously potent Mavericks offense and explain why Kyrie Irving is off to such a bad start in this series. It’s not just Kyrie, though. Luka Doncic has been the only Mavericks player really playing well through two games.

Dan talks about a moment of poise that he saw from the Boston Celtics, not a team typically praised for their poise, before talking about how they have forced the Mavericks offense to play differently from how they’re comfortable.

The guys talk about Jayson Tatum making an impact, despite not shooting well, and then discuss Jrue Holiday’s massive impact through two games before wondering if one of them might end up winning Finals MVP.

After the ad break, the guys talk about what the Mavericks can do differently in Dallas, the offensive ceiling that the Celtics still have not hit in this series and the potential impact a Kristaps Porzingis leg injury could have.

  • Jake Fischer and Dan Devine get together after the Boston Celtics won game 1 of the NBA Finals over the Dallas Mavericks to talk about how it all went down.

    (00:00) - Hello friends!

    (01:35) - NBA Finals Game 1 recap

    (34:20) - NBA Finals Game 2 preview

On this very special episode of No Cap Room, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Jake Fischer is at TD Garden after the Boston Celtics won game 1 of the NBA Finals and Yahoo Sports senior NBA writer Dan Devine is in the office to podcast about what just happened.

The guys talk about how dominant the Boston Celtics were, especially in the ways their defense was able to slow down Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, before putting a spotlight on Kristaps Porzingis.

Porzingis had been everyone’s “x-factor” leading into the NBA Finals, and he showed exactly why by coming off the bench and dominating the second half of the 1st quarter and giving the Celtics a lead over the Dallas Mavericks that they would never give up.

Jake gives a positive shoutout to Sam Hauser, who played a big role in game 1 after many suspected that he would get played off the court by the Mavericks, and then a negative shoutout to Maxi Kleber, who can’t keep defenses honest if he is unwilling to shoot the ball.

After putting a bow on game 1, the guys talk about adjustments the Mavericks could make to try and keep pace with the Celtics in a very important game 2 before the series heads to Dallas.

  • On today's episode of On The Clock, Krysten Peek is joined by Overtime Elite's Head of Basketball and GM Damien Wilkins to discuss the top 2024 NBA Draft prospects coming out of their program.

Peek opens up the conversation by asking Wilkins to share a look behind the curtain on what Overtime Elite is and how it's helping develop future NBA players. They reflect on the success of Amen and Ausar Thompson who were drafted early in the 2023 NBA draft last year.

They then dive deep into the top prospects from Overtime Elite in this year's NBA draft, focusing on Alexandre Sarr, Rob Dillingham, Tyler Smith, and Izan Almansa. Wilkins shares what makes each prospect unique and why top NBA teams should draft them.

After the break, Peek asks Wilkins how Overtime Elite fits into the rapidly changing pre-draft landscape now that NIL is so impactful. Wilkins explains why he feels top prospects shouldn't chase short-term money if they want to reach the NBA.

  • Vincent Goodwill and Tom Haberstroh preview game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals, explain why they don’t trust the Celtics & wonder if LeBron might be switching teams this offseason.

(01:00) - Why don’t we trust the Boston Celtics?

    (22:31) - NBA Finals Game 1 preview

    (30:15) - NBA coaching news

(38:05) - Ty Lue & the Clippers’ future

(41:50) - Checking in with a Mavericks fan

(44:20) - Top 5 NBA players as coaches

On this episode of the Good Word with Goodwill, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill is joined by Yahoo Sports NBA contributor Tom Haberstroh to talk about the Boston Celtics and more.

The guys talk through their own trust issues about the Boston Celtics. Whether it’s the style of play, the soft path through the playoffs, or the disappointments on the resumes of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, it’s just hard to believe that the Celtics will dominate the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals.

In previewing tomorrow night’s game 1, the guys talk about Kristaps Porzingis’ health and how the Dallas Mavericks might attack him on defense to take advantage of a sore calf or rust from time off.

Vinnie and Tom go through some of the coaching news from the last couple of weeks (extensions for Ty Lue & Mike Brown, Brian Keefe earning the job in Washington) before discussing JJ Redick, who appears to be the front-runner to become the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Tom points out that LeBrom James could be a free agent this offseason, and lays out a couple of teams that might be good fits for LeBron to join
.if they were to draft Bronny James.

Finally, the guys each pick 5 current NBA players that they would like to see as head coaches in the NBA in the future.

  • Tim Cato from The Athletic joins Vincent Goodwill to detail how the Dallas Mavericks have rebuilt their organization over the last 3 years to end up in the NBA Finals.

    (00:00) - Introduction

(02:25) - How the Mavericks rebuilt their team around Luka Doncic

    (34:50) - 2024 NBA Finals preview

    (44:10) - Dereck Lively II

(47:45) - Kyrie Irving vs. Boston

    (54:10) - Kristaps Porzingis

    (57:10) - NBA Finals predictions

On this episode of the Good Word with Goodwill, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill is joined by The Athletic’s Dallas Mavericks beat reporter Tim Cato to talk about all of the changes the team has gone through over the past three years.

Since losing to the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2021 NBA Playoffs, the Dallas Mavericks have changed their owner, general manager, head coach and pretty much everyone on the roster not named Luka Doncic. Vinnie and Tim talk about the adjustments that were made, and the patience that was needed, to make it all work and for the team to succeed at this level.

The guys preview the NBA Finals, including how both offenses seem to force both defenses to play a way that they’re not totally comfortable.

Dereck Lively II may be a rookie, but he’s one of the most important and impactful players for Dallas in this series. How he defends on the perimeter might be the key to the Mavericks slowing down the Celtics offense.

Kyrie Irving has a long and tumultuous history with Boston, but Tim argues that growth and maturity have brought Kyrie to a place where he won’t be rattled by whatever the Boston fans yell at him.

The health of former Dallas Mavericks center Kristaps Porzingis, who hasn’t played in almost six weeks, might be the key to the whole series. If he can move his feet and hit deep threes, it makes it almost impossible for the Mavericks to defend the Celtics the way they want to.

Before wrapping the show, Tim gives his (admittedly biased) prediction on what will happen in the 2024 NBA Finals between the Mavericks and Celtics.
