  • Luis Carlos Flores Aguilar is an award-winning bilingual (English/Spanish) senior communications advisor with experience working in the public sector and as a freelancer. He has a background in engineering and project management, has taught Spanish lessons, and once upon a time in Mexico, he was a singer and a TV host.


    In 2021, he was the recipient of Canadian Immigrant magazine’s Canadian Immigrant Awards, which celebrates the achievements, challenges and impact of newcomers to the country.


    On this conversation, Luis Carlos and I spoke about how he reinvented himself and his career – from studying oil and gas engineering in Mexico to becoming a public relations expert working in the public sector in Canada, and how these changes didn't always feel right at the beginning…but later on can be incredibly rewarding.

With over 30 years of professional and award-winning film, tv, media and arts experience, she helps people empower inclusion in arts and culture through strategic consulting, communications and creating social impact.     With more than eleven years in the filmmaking industry, Tom has won several awards, such as Best Director and Best corporate Production from the Alberta Media Production Industries Association.

  • Born in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico and raised along the Texas border, Tanya Saracho is an award-winning playwright and television writer who serves as a creator, showrunner and executive producer of the critically-acclaimed series, Vida, which earned 100% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes for both its first and second seasons.


    Before marrying the world of television, in her 20’s, Tanya co-founded Teatro Luna in 2000 and was its co-artistic director for ten years. She also co-founded the Alliance of Latinx Theater Artists (ALTA) of Chicago and is particularly known for centering the "Latina gaze".

  • At 25, Priscilla Cherry thought she had all the answers. Ten years later, she doesn’t want to, because who has time for that? After experiencing a lot of confusion in her twenties about her purpose in this life and some self-reflection and care, Priscilla found that she’s here to build bridges between art and people, as well as help and support those who are struggling with their mental health.


    Now a social artist and peer support worker, Priscilla also emphasizes how important it is to reframe failure, the role of spirituality, and the value of community.

  • Boban Stojanović is a poet, a peace, LGBTQ2S+ and Human Right activist, TEDx speaker, and author of the poetry collection: “This Could Have Been Our Living Room".


    Before arriving in Canada, he was the executive director and one of the founders of the Belgrade Pride Parade,which was held for the first time in 2001, and spoke at various seminars concerning LGBTQ2S+ issues.


    For the past few years, Boban has worked at Calgary's Centre for Newcomers as the Vice President, Vulnerable Population Services, helping new arrivals from the LGBT2S community as well as refugees.

  • Michelle Christoffersen cares about the world and its people. She has a passion for connecting people to information and resources that can enhance their lives, mostly because when she was 25, she didn’t have access to tools and resources that would validate her experiences.

  • Birdie Wilson, isn’t afraid to experience new things. At 34, she has done a little bit of everything.   • Raquel Zapien, de 48 años, es Licenciada en Ciencias de la Comunicación por la Facultad de Ciencias Sociales de la Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa. 

    Durante 20 años ha ejercido el periodismo en medios impresos y electrónicos del ámbito local, estatal y regional. Ha laborado como reportera en los periódicos Noroeste, Debate, Sol de Mazatlán y Semanario Río Doce; editora en Revista Somos Sinaloa. 


    Ha sido reportera, conductora, jefa de información y directora de noticias en diversas empresas radiofónicas, entre las que destacan Grupo ACIR, Promomedios Mazatlán, Radio Fórmula y Promored (ahora Grupo Chávez Radio).


    En los últimos siete años se ha desempeñado como periodista freelance. En este periodo colaboró con diversos medios locales; y en enero de 2019 colaboró con Newsweek México. 


    Actualmente dirige un proyecto de periodismo independiente digital con enfoque ambiental llamado Son Playas. También es consejera fundadora del Colectivo de Periodistas por la Paz y la Libertad de Expresión en Mazatlán, Sinaloa, e integrante de la Comisión de Participación Ciudadana del Sistema Estatal y Municipal Anticorrupción de Sinaloa.

  • LeRon L. Barton, 45, is a writer from Kansas City, Missouri. A graduate of Paseo Academy of Fine Arts, LeRon is the author of two books, Straight Dope: A 360 degree look into American Drug Culture and All We Really Need Is Love: Stories of Dating, Relationships, Heartbreak, and Marriage. 


    In addition to his books, LeRon is an essayist whose topics cover racism, mass incarceration, politics, gender, and dating.  


    These works have appeared in Black Enterprise, Salon, Harvard Business Review, The Good Men Project, Your Tango, Media Diversity, Raconteur, Elephant Journal, East Bay Times, and MoAD. 


    LeRon is an international speaker who has given three TEDx speeches and has appeared at Al Jazeera, the University of San Francisco, Navis, Speakers Who Dare, Nas Dubai, Glide Memorial Church, The City of Cupertino, Los Altos Chamber of Commerce, Square, and Defy Ventures. 


    In his spare time, LeRon enjoys mentoring African-American youth, teaching Creative Writing at the San Francisco County Jail, and backpacking around the world.
