NOTE: Please listen to Part A of Randall's story to fully appreciate this episode
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Randall Cooper has worked in elite sport throughout the world as a Physiotherapist for decades. A quiet achiever, super smart, clever businessman, a very good snow skier, capable swimmer, gifted musician, great family man and loyal friend.
He is a very talented human being.
After a near death experience as a 16 year old with Guillain-Barré Syndrome, it provided him with the clarity of knowing exactly what he wanted to do with his life by helping people in the sports medicine space. Out of high school, he couldn't get to University quick enough to complete his degree in Physiotherapy and feed his intense thirst for knowledge in that space. It just made sense to him.
His resume is as good as it gets. Co-Head Physio for Hawthorn Football Club in the AFL, working with athletes in the Australian Institute of Sport and part of the Physio team for the Australian Winter Olympics Team fulfilling a lifelong dream.
In recent years, Randall & his wife Jane had an idea and eventually took the plunge pivoting away from the day to day grind of being a Physio creating a sports skin care range called 'PreMax' which is now one of the highest selling skin care for sport brands in Australia.
If that wasn't enough, he has also created an online physio learning platform called "Learn Physio" which provides health professionals all over the world with high quality, evidence based learning experiences from wherever they are, whenever they choose.
As we said, Randall Cooper is a very talented human being.
An incredible working life and a sensational person so we hope you enjoy the story of Randall Cooper.

George Haros has earnt everything he has in life thanks to his work ethic, talent, intelligence and overall charisma .
Not everything has come naturally for him, but as an extremally capable person you won't find a harder worker especially once he decides he wants something with no stone left unturned. Along the way, George doesn't lose sight of others around him and is very aware of the broader community along with his own - which is vast - always looking out for those close to him to bring along for the ride. His network is everything and he loves them as much as they love him.
As a very capable, natural Lawyer who loves his sport, it seemed inevitable that he would find himself representing elite sports stars in some way, shape or form. After a short career in AFL Player Management he has been at the forefront of litigation when Adam Saad from the St. Kilda Football Club found himself under scrutiny for allegedly taking a banned substance and Andrew Thorburn almost become the CEO of Essendon Football Club. However, it was when Israel Folau made international news after expressing his religious beliefs sparking a debate that continues to polarize Australian sport to this day, where he found out what it was like to be an elite Lawyer in the spotlight.
As an expert is Employment Law as well George's fully rounded skills and experience make him one of Melbourne's most sought after Lawyers.
George loves his mates and family with every part of his being and continues to add his story which is a great one so far with more ups than downs living a life that this podcast is all about.
Enjoy the story of George Gabriel Haros.

NOTE: Please listen to Part A beforehand which focuses more on Craig working life to get the full enjoyment of Part B which is more about his personal life.
Craig Shearer is one of those people you just want to be around. Charismatic, intelligent, funny, curious, incredibly ambitious, a team player and a real goer.
As a country boy born & bred who has spent the large majority of his life around footy clubs and pubs, you could potentially make some assumptions and think you know what he may be like .... but you'd be very wrong !
Like many of us, Craig loves being around people so there is no coincidence that in both AFL footy and the hospitality industry he has been very successful. Having said that, he's had his own issues reconciling some of this along the way and where it all sits for him which he opens up about in this episode. I guess we all have our demons many don't know about.
Craig has had a few really sad things happen to him along the journey of life so far including the horrendous period of the 2020 covid lockdowns in Victoria without being able to trade which is clearly the lifeblood of owning pubs. It was a tough time to say the least but in hindsight gave him and his team an opportunity to really show who they were . So much so that 3-4 years later they are now winning important National Industry Awards turning over $100m per year across all venues in Australia.
It's a terrific story of grit, talent, fun, cheekiness and determination full of vulnerability where Craig lives our mantra of bringing people together and finding the balance between working hard and having fun.
Enjoy the story of Craig Shearer.Produced and edited by Darren Payne

----------
In this episode we have a chat to a few of Tatam's participants and support workers to see what Tatam and Dance Inclusion means to them. It's fair to say everyone was buzzing from the class and very excited to be on the podcast and we all had a lot of fun.
Just like everyone involved with Dance Inclusion, the guests on this episode are all remarkable young ladies and we were very grateful for the time they took to talk to us. Hope you enjoy!

Tatam Fairclough has been an elite dancer her entire life and growing up, was a star on the rise. You name it she could do it - Ballet, Theatrical, Jazz, Tap, Cabaret & Musical Theatre all day every day! She belonged on stage and was the envy of many with her performances despite hiding her anxiety behind what she describes as her 'Japanese mask.' Something all performers can relate to I'm sure .
Tatam practiced 15+ hours per day as a young child / teenager while obsessively learning to dance. Before school, throughout the day at 'John Curtin Performing Arts High School' in Fremantle, WA and then again after school. It was fun and relentless at the same time and all she really knew growing up.
In 2013, Tatam found her calling and put these dancing and organisational skills towards creating a business she named 'Dance Inclusion' that's just had it's 10 year anniversary (2023). The large majority of the participants in Dance Inclusion have special needs and isn't just any old dance class. It truly is something special. Tatam has used the power of music and dance at its core to help people of all abilities feel a part of something that has such a huge influence on their happiness.
Tatam is passionate that music and dance helps brings people together regardless of ability or physical /mental hurdles they may face and spends her days doing exactly what she wants to do in this space helping others. In her own words, she "gets goose bumps every single day" from the reaction people get from her classes.
How good is that!
This episode is VERY overdue given how much she spends helping others so we hope you enjoy the story of Tatam Fairclough.

When you think about it, we walk a path each day creating our story over time and Tim Curtis has lived a life that most couldn't imagine or even see on a movie. So the fact he lives with these past experiences daily with such optimism and thirst to learn about "what's next" while passionately helping others is nothing less than inspiring.
Ending his Military career of 17 years as a highly decorated Squadron Commander in the SAS at 34yrs of age, Tim has learned so much about how to survive - literally - both in times of war and now in normal life. All fuelled by resilience.
When the Twin Towers were attacked on 9/11 in 2001, both Prime Minister John Howard and Peter Cosgrove turned to Tim to run, design and implement the Australian counter terrorist response arrangements for the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Amongst many other high levels roles, he has been the principal adviser to the Government of Sierra Leone, consulted to major resource and services companies on crisis and risk management, and held the appointment of the Director of the Joint Electoral Operations Centre in 2005 within the United Nations for the Afghanistan Parliamentary Elections.
He has continually worked at the 'pointy end' trying to be the best elite version of himself all his life . However, he is the first to admit that he also needed to work on the simple things in life like being present and learning to be the father and husband he wanted to be again. Despite all of his success, it was THIS that changed his life forever.
Tim is supremely educated thanks to his desire to learn and high level of curiosity. He is pragmatic, measured, intelligent, calm and his capabilities are off the charts. For those of us who are lucky enough to know Tim, have read his book "The Resilience Shield,' have listened to him on his podcast 'Unforgiving60' or seen him in a seminar or retreat, this episode will show you another side of Tim and how he has become the man he is today. You will also learn key lessons relating to importance of resilience & finding a sense of belonging to something you love.
Finally, Tim is great fun to have a beer or 3 with also!
We hope you enjoy the story of Tim Curtis.

This quick episode was recorded at the end of our chat with Tim where we ask him a few fun questions about life and how he thinks about certain things.
At the end, he then tells us the most unbelievable story about what happened to him when he jumped out of a plane and almost resigned himself to not surviving the jump !!

At the end of recording a fantastic yarn with Cheryl about her life as per Part A & B of this 13th episode, Cheryl took over as podcast host on a whim turning the tables on Dave, Gary & Darren !!
It wasn't planned nor did they know what was coming their way but they ran with it anyway. Cheryl asked the boys a few fantastic questions around Totems, what they would ask any famous Indigenous person of their choice if they could, if they are happy and what people need to do to keep that spark in life alight.
It's funny, thought provoking, deep at times and shows yet another side of Professor Cheryl Kickett-Tucker being the amazing human being that she is. Enjoy !Socials

NOTE: Please listen to Part A of Cheryl's story before Part B to fully understand and enjoy this episode.
Cheryl Kickett-Tucker is a highly respected Wadjuk Noongar Traditional Owner and renowned Indigenous leader, mother of 3, youth basketball coach, public speaker, elite athlete, research academic, community development practitioner and author. She really is one of a kind.
Everything she does is for others and her community with a fierce focus on young children and teenagers. She has worked with Australian Aboriginal people all her life in the fields of education, sport and health and is very passionate about using her knowledge and experience to make a real difference to the lives of Aboriginal children and their families.
Having said that, she is also starting to realise life is short and that she also needs to 'create some elbow room' for herself a bit more too. But never to the detriment of others as that's just who she is.
In 2020 she was the only West Australian woman appointed to a group that was set to co-design the 'Indigenous Voice to Parliament' for which the importance for Australia's future is profound.
There are too many accolades and achievements to name here so best to check out the "About me" section of www.koya.com.au to see all of them as it's VERY impressive!
One of Cheryl's greatest achievements though is where she has developed and is the founding Director along with her Father Alan Kickett originally called 'Kaat, Koort and Hoopz' which means 'head, heart and basketball' in words from the Ballardong dialect of the Noongar people of the Wheatbelt region. It has now morphed into "Koordoormitj Institute Grassroots Basketball Program and is a basketball lifestyle program for 4-16 year old children who have potential but limited opportunities to enhance their wellbeing providing that sense of belonging we always talk about in all our episodes.
Cheryl is a very, very special lady . Enjoy !

NOTE: This episode is Part B of "The Humble High Achiever - Paul Donaldson" so please listen to that first to fully enjoy this episode.
On the surface, having an opportunity to live in New York seems like an amazing opportunity - which it so is - and something most people can only dream of. The reality of doing something like that though can only be experienced fully by making the bold move in the first place especially with young children. However, when you decide to do something out of your comfort zone, there are no guarantees it's going to be everything you hoped for either!
In this episode we have a chat to Paul Donaldson's wife Amanda and his children Luca & Milla about their experience moving to New York thanks to Paul's work (See Part A episode). As time goes on, there is no doubt they will all pinch themselves that they were able to do so thanks to how capable Paul is and the opportunities his work provides both himself and his family. However, the culture shock was underestimated - especially during Covid in a place that had the highest deaths per capita in the world while they were there - and the ability to cope with the situation was very much different for each of them. Not to mention being there during the madness of Donald Trump as President!!
The best part about the Donaldson's though is that they are never afraid of saying "yes" to things to try them out and see what happens. So on balance the perspective they gained and experiences they had by getting uncomfortable is something they can take through the rest of their lives. They also now know what they like and don't like as a family and also understand one another a lot better.
A fantastic outcome on balance and the lessons for their children at such a young age is exactly what our podcast is about. Just say "yes" to opportunities and you never know what might happen!

Paul Donaldson fits a lot into his life and is the epitome of what it means to be curious & optimistic. He is borderline obsessed with exploring as many things in life as possible while also still working hard which, in his case, is in very high level jobs. However, one of his best traits is that he has no interest in having a 'bucket list' to tick off later on in life as his mantra is say yes and do it now.
Our regular listeners will know that we absolutely love that !!
Paul is one of the most capable people we have ever met and holds his own around anyone regardless who they are with a real understated yet commanding presence. He has the ability to converse with Secretaries of State in the same day as fishing or surfing with his mates or kids as he loves nothing more than being with his family and many friends.
He was a high achiever as a teenager. He did well at school, worked his way onto an AFL list at Collingwood and performed at a state level for swimming. He was the guy every bloke wanted to be friends with and the girls wanted to be with!
A few years after finishing high school, he finally decided to properly focus on his Uni degree with a fierce focus on his career around the corner. Unsurprisingly, he subsequently ended up with the highest mark in the history of Melbourne University.
After landing senior management level job's in Marketing for Cadbury's and CUB, Paul and his family moved to New York for an amazing job opportunity as 'Head of Global Strategy' for the biggest beer company in the world. He had worked his entire life for such an opportunity so needless to say they were incredibly excited. This episode explores what it's like to be in such a role and also what it was like being there during the initial outbreak of Covid where they were burying bodies in Central Park, through to two elections around the madness of Donald Trump was President.
Paul's humbleness is second to none as are his capabilities in life and we were very lucky to have a few hours with him and his family in their home. Enjoy !

Richard Osborne is a humble free spirit who lives' in the present.
Outside of his friends and family, he is best known for his incredible AFL playing career of 283 games and 574 goals at 4 different clubs. Simply fantastic player who also represented Victoria in 'State of Origin' Football 8 times in what can only be described as a stellar career.
From a non - football playing career perspective he's worked in sales over a number of different industries, in the Media for Channel 7, helped run a friends Importing business out of Vietnam and currently works in the Oil & Gas industry travelling from Melbourne to Perth on a fortnightly basis to work on a ship in the middle of the ocean!
Like all of us, "Ozzie" has faced adversity through is life and thanks his self made positive attitude to helping him get through these times. During his football career, his adversity primarily come through injury and some of them significant too! For example a nasty knee reconstruction and a sickening concussion thanks to a head clash with a team mate while playing for the Sydney Swans. Only a few years ago he found out that he actually died for a short time only to come back a few weeks later and kick 10 goals . Pretty scary and equally amazing!!
Richard has an incredibly positive, laid back, uncomplicated attitude to life taking responsibility for his own happiness which has been enhanced thanks to his learnings and passion of Psychology. He is constantly aware of things that have a negative impact on his happiness and very self aware of the compatibility between his personality and the work he is doing. Everything this podcast is all about!!
It's a great listen and we hope you enjoy !!

David Rossiter creates his own luck in life and has done it his own way.
After growing up in the suburbs of Melbourne, he found himself living on the coast of Victoria in Torquay where he could embrace his love of surfing back in the 70's & 80's when surfing was raw and real as ever. It remains his home today and his love of surfing has not diminished one little bit. The stories he can tell about his surfing & travelling life and the places he's been would blow you away and we'd need 20 podcasts to even go close to covering it all properly!
After working in the printing industry for 11 years, he created a role for himself at 'Quicksilver' where he started out sweeping the floors of the warehouse to shortly thereafter running the very first concept store in Torquay and eventually being the person in charge to take it to Asia and abroad. Twenty six years later in his early 50's, David had put himself into a position where he could leave the corporate world and finally start his dream job as a full time artist. And what an artist he is (Please check out @ david_rossiter_art (previously @smileyrooster) on Instagram).
David lives life like no other and epitomises the mantra of 'work hard, play hard' always finding the time to do the things he loves while working incredibly hard over his lifetime. A mad surfer back in his day before hurting his ears, a marathon runner, martial artist, family man, cheeky, funny, forever studying, super keen traveller and an immense love of India makes David one of the most interesting people anyone could ever meet.
David has 'done life' the right way so far and is living the ethos of what @someelbowroompodcast is all about thanks to his endless energy, thirst to learn, being true to himself and seeing the good in people and the world he lives in. Enjoy !!

This short episode was recorded at the end of the main podcast "The Quirky, Clever, Surf Loving Artist - David Rossiter" with some quick fire questions about life and conversations around favourite experiences, etc etc.
A bit of fun for you to get to know David & Vicki a little bit more that we couldn't quite fit into the main episode. Worth a listen for a cruisey laugh so enjoy !
PS - A little adult at times :)
