Rove McManus is a true icon of Australian television. From 1999-2009, he was part millions of living rooms around the country. We'd all we all tune in to Rove Live to laugh, watch the biggest celebrity interviews & of course, get our weekly dose of "WHAT THE?!".
Years later, Rove is still the much loved Aussie icon he always has been, and in a stunning turn of events, he said YES to coming on our pod!

Don't worry, we came prepared and made sure we asked ALL the questions you'd want the answers to. Rove gives us a candid recount of how he built the show from the ground up, never before heard behind the scenes stories & the evolution of "What The?!"
Hear how he made the choice to end the show on his terms, his move to LA & why he is passionate about mentoring new talent.

This week on TSB we hit the ground running with "The Block" drama, where former contestant Paige has made allegations about manipulative production practices. Because, you know, reality TV is always 100% real and unmanipulated, right? Alex gives her 2 cents as a former post-production producer & vows to get some inside goss from her mates at Channel 9, STAY TUNED!
The conversation then shifts to musician Dave Grohl, who recently revealed he has a daughter from an extramarital affair *CLUTCHES PEARLS*. It seems his reputation as "one of the good guys" in rock n roll might not be so accurate after all.
We then welcome this weeks guest, Aussie medium Jessica Lynn, who talks about having a profile in the media, celebrity readings & portrayals of psychic mediums in film and TV.

We recount our oh-so-glamorous experience at the Chemist Warehouse brand showcase, where we were treated like second class citezens in favour of influencers and reality TV contestants. Because who doesn't love feeling like a nobody next to someone who gets paid to post selfies? Alex was irate but Jordy resigned herself to this reality of showbiz long ago...
Tom Gleeson responded to our snarky video exposing him as a liar, but Jordy still isn't convinced he'll come on the pod.
We discuss the Oasis reunion, an infamous spat between 2 Neighbours cast members & question whether we'll ever know the truth about Harry & Meghan.
Jordy has been watching Netflix doco Popstar Academy, and recounts the time she was almost in a movie musical about a girlband titled, "The Chickabees". Spoiler alert: the movie never received funding, so naturally we're starting a campaign to get it off the ground!

Larry Emdur won the Gold Logie and we don't mean to brag, but we called it. From Rebecca Gibney's son to Raygun's cameo appearance, we recap Australian television's night of nights and Alex reminds us again that she's worked with most of the Gold nominees.
We also expose Tom Gleeson for lies he spun to Alex' Dad...yes, you read that right, listen for context...
We do a deep dive into the drama surrounding Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni's film adaptation of "It Ends With Us." Power dynamics and claims of fat-shaming in showbiz? Shocking, we know.
While celebs and their bad behaviour might once have been protected, it seems the tide is turning. While we don't expect them to be puretins, can we hit pause on expecting celebs to save the world?

Strap yourselves in for 45 minutes of a mix of old & new Logies stories from Australian Televisions night of nights!
In this special Logies bumper episode we cover:
- The soap opera rivalry between "Home & Away" & "Neighbours", because nothing says high stakes like fictional beach towns and suburban drama.
- Alex's awkward red carpet interview with a mystery actress
- Logies after-parties: where the real entertainment begins
-How Seal (the singer, not the marine mammal) almost got Jordy sued
- Our Gold Logie predictions, which was basically a chance for Alex to name-drop celebrity pals & old colleagues, while pretending she has any interest at all in who wins.

In our biggest (literally, our longest) episode yet, we dive headfirst into the Breaker that stole the Olympics, Raygun. From the murky qualification process to the absurd dance moves, it all just feels a little off for us. But somehow the Australian Olympic Committee is trying to convince us that WE are the arseholes.
Speaking of arseholes, Alex has been trolled in the comments on the Daily Mail & of course Jordy performs a dramatic reading (any chance to practice her craft right?) We discuss Sam Armytage's surprise endorsement of our pod, but then come to the conclusion that we're actually not surprised at all. Classic us...
We add to the dumpster fire that is Channel 7 when ex-reporter Talitha Cummins drops by. Talitha shares how the pressures of showbiz contributed to her alcoholism & why she walked away from the industry (but not in too much detail, because, NDA). It was delightful to hear how Talitha has rediscovered herself & a passion in the diamond industry.
We touch on the 4 Corners report on Channel 7's heinous culture & though we both felt deeply confronted, we weren't in the slightest bit surprised.
Stay tuned as we keep waving the flag for better treatment and a deep clean of the industry. We'll be sharing more of our own juicy stories, and calling on YOU to share yours. DM us @thatsshowbizbaby.pod or email [email protected]

We're BACK BABY! After a short production break, we're out of Jordy's study & IN STUDIO!
Alex gives us the rundown from her first audition, which of course Jordy insisted on chaperoning her to/from & documenting for content. Will Alex become the face of a national brand? Will she create a Starnow profile? Only time will tell...
In Aussie media news, Sam Armytage announced her departure from Channel 7 after 21 years on Instagram last week.
Fans (& friends) of TSB will know Alex once worked as a digital producer on Sunrise, so we decided to open up the (breakfast TV shaped) can of worms & spill the tea on what is the biggest pressure cooker in showbiz.
Alex reveals just how stressful live television can be, the 'mortifying' email she once received from Sam Armytage herself & the strict legalities around the infamous Cash Cow.
Lastly, we question if viewers still want 'polished' presenters & higher production value when it comes to free-to-air TV. We'd love to hear your thoughts, but don't slide into our DMs just to tell us you don't watch TV at all, okay?

Jordy lost 1 hour & 54 minutes of her life watching "A Family Affair," and is spoiling the entire plot in an unhinged rage so you don't have to. Alex also recommends a brilliant Aussie 'dramady' that's second season is near perfect, much like the first.
Phil Burton (1/4 of iconic boyband Human Nature) is our FIRST EVER GUEST and is it obvious that neither of us have any cool about the situation?
We explore the evolution of Human Nature’s style, both musical & physical: from goatees to bleached tips, the latex uniforms to double denim, and finally to their iconic Motown phase.
Phil spills the tea on the strangest gift he's received from a fan, the reality of maintaining a Vegas show for over 11 years & why he chose to walk away from it all.
Was he banished from the Human Nature WhatsApp (yes they have a group WhatsApp!) after moving back to Australia? You'll have to listen to find out, and don't tell us we don't ask the big questions here at TSB!

Trust these uncultured milennials to attend the opening night of a critically aclaimed theatre production, only to focus on the celeb spotting and an egg sandwich.
Shifting gears, we dive into the gritty realities of unpaid work in the entertainment world, focusing on the physical and emotional hardships faced by the women in the new Netflix docu-series, America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. We discuss the thankless expectations and question how much we'd want to be paid to give an organisation ownership of our bodies.
Alex shares why her Dad placed a ban on her dressing up as the CashCow on Sunrise & Jordy teases the scams actors are warned about when moving to Hollywood.

We kick off this episode by dissecting the absurdity and moral complexities of the Ashley Madison documentary on Netflix. From the outrageous hypocrisy of born-again preachers to the uncomfortable ethical questions about the hackers who turned lives upside down.
Alex has been listening to "The Vial Files". A podcast hosted by former Bachelor star Nick Vial, who brings his unique brand of relationship advice and personal growth tales to the table.
We then explore the dynamics of high-profile relationships and hear our listeners thoughts on why showbiz romances often end in heartbreak.
One message strikes a chord with Jordy, which leads her to question the 'fraternising' she took part in all those years ago.

After being hilariously misrepresented by a certain media outlet & labelled a "disgruntled former Neighbours star", Jordy sets the record straight.
Alex reads out comments from Jordy's trolls, which leads us to the weird nature of parasocial relationships. Jordy thinks we're all on the same page until Alex reveals herself as a superfan that has no qualms sliding into celebrity's DM's.
We aren't the only ones who've had it rough in the news this week. Kyle Sandilands threw Delta Goodrem under the bus on his radio show & of course the media were like moths to the flame.
As a self-proclaimed 'Pro-Delta podcast', we share why we won't hear a bad word about our Queen. From Alex wrangling a Delta superfan on the Red Carpet at The Logies, to the time Jordy was INSIDE her Hollywood Mansion. You won't believe what went down...

Jordy has stumbled across WikiFeet, where she found a feed dedicated to her very own hoofs. Meanwhile, Alex is already monetising hers, which leads us to the brilliant idea of starting a fan-funded Patreon for all our beauty treatments. (Not sure if we're joking or serious on this one, stay tuned)
We also received some victim impact statements regarding the most troublesome Neighbours fan in history. Spoiler alert: The Police were called in.
Then from navigating the hierachy of the carpark to where to get the best coffee, Jordy gives Chrishell Stause some advice as she heads to Ramsay St.
Finally, Alex has taken it upon herself to ask a Neighbours writer to give Jordy her job back and of course, makes her sit through a live reading of the exchange. Is there a chance of a Summer Hoyland return? Listen to find out...Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Buckle up for an unfiltered chat with Jordy as we dive into her life on and after Neighbours.
Hear about the moment from Neighbours that put her feet front and center, leading to some unforgettable fan reactions and how her Mum booked a TV gig before her, WITHOUT EVEN TRYING.
We take a look at the emotional rollercoaster that comes with a career in soap operas— financial woes, unexpected tax bills, and the bittersweet feeling of job loss.
Jordy gives us the inside scoop on how social media has changed the industry and the planning that goes into a character's exit. Plus, hear about her transition from Australian TV to Hollywood, where she navigated the whirlwind of meetings, new opportunities & a management team that gave zero sh!ts about her emotional wellbeing, but that's showbiz baby!

Alex got all fancy for her birthday, heading to GOLD CLASS to watch Zendaya's flick, "Challengers", only to find it missing that secret spice.
Jordy watched Fiona Harvey (aka 'Martha' from "Baby Reindeer") on Piers Morgan and was left questioning whether interviewing a clearly unwell woman was ethical. This then leads us to exploring exactly WHO deserves a right of reply in the media and when someone needs to be 'de-platformed'. We'd love to hear your thoughts on this one!
A recent debacle between Australian podcasters regarding a certain 'dude' from this years season of MAFS is doing the rounds in the news cycle, but Jordy thinks the media have turned it into the feminism Olympics instead of focussing on the bigger issue, VIOLENT MEN!
Could the media ever come together to form guidelines for employing and platforming people with convictions? Alex puts her producer hat on and says NO!
Alex confronts Jordy about a rumoured 'on set romance' from back in the day & we read out some audience feedback.
Just like the inside of our minds, it's an episode of CHAOS, but it's a goody.

Diva tantrums & on set meltdowns are nothing new in the world of showbiz. It's an industry fraught with scandal, secrets & bad behaviour.
However some of the most outrageous antics come from not the celebrities or studio bigwigs, but the fans...
From cyberstalking to fan wars, a love of entertainment can bring out the worst in a person. And just like Martha from Baby Reindeer, some fans take it a few (okay, MANY) steps too far.
Jordy shares the creepiest fan mail she received while working at Neighbours, while Alex talks about managing fans as a social media producer.
HINT: It's a f**king NIGHTMARE

The bright lights of showbiz might blind you to the real-life drama that unfolds behind them. But no matter what happens, the show must go on...
No really, it doesn't matter what happens, the show WILL go on.
Alex reflects on Jock Zonfrillo's passing & why working at MasterChef at the time of his death ultimately lead her to step away from the industry all together.
Jordy then shares a live set incident on 'Neighbours' that has haunted her and why it would be handled differently today.

Did you know our very own Alexandria Funnell was the social media producer at The Project when Lisa Wilkinson broke the Bruce Lehrmann story?
We've been DYING to discuss this, but kind of wanted to avoid a defamation case 1 week into our podcast, ya know? Well, last week the gavel came down on Bruce Lehrmann, and the floodgates opened for us to speak freely on exactly what we think of him – and speak we do!
Alex recounts the secrecy surrounding The Project's story on Lehrmann, recalling the nerves that gripped the legal team, and the fact checkers that were working hard for the money.
Jordy & Alex discuss the allegations that Channel 7 paid for drugs, sex workers and rent in Sydney in exchange for Lehmann's exclusive interview on Spotlight in 2023.
Charming, right?
But if years of working in this industry have taught us anything, it's that showbiz will go great lengths to keep your secrets, but only if they consider you valuable enough...

When has technology failed you at work? Because we think Alex's story of a finicky camera & a disgruntled Lizzo takes the cake.
We then talk about why cancel culture is so 2017 & how easily celebrities can lose their humility.
But it's not all dramatic divas in the world of showbiz, we've met some gems too. You'll have to listen to find out which A-lister Alex claims has 'angel-like energy'.
