Welcome to this weeks’ episode of The Australian Small Business Show!
In today’s episode we are following on from our discussion last week with Ryan Griffin from Chunky Duck.
Today we are sharing 5 simple SEO strategies for small businesses who want to do a little DIY SEO over the Christmas period.
Our 5 strategies are:
1. Keyword Research – Find What Your Customers are Searching For
Keyword research is the foundation of any successful SEO strategy. It helps you understand what terms your potential customers are using to search for your products or services.
Tip: Look at competitor websites to identify keywords they’re ranking for.
2 Optimize Website Titles and Meta Descriptions
Titles and meta descriptions are the first things people see on search engine results pages (SERPs). Well-optimized titles and descriptions can significantly improve your click-through rate (CTR).
Tip: Keep your titles and meta descriptions focused on the user’s intent – what do they want to know or solve by clicking on your link?
3. Create High-Quality, Engaging Content
Google values content that is helpful, informative, and answers user queries. Creating high-quality content is one of the best ways to improve your SEO ranking and engage your audience.
Tip: Include relevant keywords in your blog titles, headings, and within the content naturally, but avoid keyword stuffing.
4. Improve Your Website’s Mobile Experience
With more people using smartphones to browse, Google considers mobile-friendliness a key ranking factor. A website that is mobile-friendly provides a better user experience and boosts SEO.
Tip: If your site is slow on mobile, consider optimizing images and removing unnecessary plugins that may be slowing it down.
5 Encourage and Manage Customer Reviews
Online reviews are a powerful ranking factor, especially for local SEO. Positive reviews not only improve your reputation but also influence search engine rankings.
Tip: Use reviews to identify common customer pain points or satisfaction factors, and improve your products or services based on feedback.

Welcome to this weeks’ episode of The Australian Small Business Show!
In today’s timely episode, we take a quick dive into how to confidently deliver a price increase
to your customers.
Increasing prices can be a delicate process, but with the right approach, businesses can do it
confidently without losing customers. Here are some strategies to consider:
Communicate Clearly and Transparently: Explain the reasons behind the price increase to your customers. Whether it's due to rising costs, improved quality, or added features, transparency helps customers understand and accept the change.Highlight Added Value: Emphasize any improvements or additional benefits that come with the price increase. This could include better materials, enhanced services, or new features that justify the higher cost.Implement Gradually: Instead of a sudden hike, consider a phased approach. Gradual increases can be less shocking to customers and give them time to adjust.Offer Alternatives: Provide different pricing tiers or packages. This way, customers can choose an option that fits their budget while still experiencing the value of your offerings.Reward Loyalty: Show appreciation to your loyal customers by offering them exclusive deals or discounts. This can help maintain their trust and loyalty even with the price increase.Train Your Team: Ensure your sales and customer service teams are well-prepared to handle questions and objections. Equip them with the right information to explain the value and reasons for the price increase confidently.Monitor Feedback: After implementing the price increase, closely monitor customer feedback and sales data. This will help you understand the impactt and make any necessary adjustments.By following these strategies, businesses can increase their prices confidently while maintaining customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Welcome to this weeks’ episode of The Australian Small Business Show!
In today’s timely episode, we briefly chat about the impact of the Black Friday Sales and 5 tips for any business owner thinking about offering a discount or having a sale.
Offering discounts can be a great way to attract customers and boost sales, but it's important to approach it strategically. Here are five key considerations for businesses planning to offer discounts on their products and services:
Understand Your Profit Margins: Before offering any discount, ensure you know your profit margins. Discounts can significantly reduce your profit per sale, so it's crucial to calculate how much of a discount you can afford to offer without harming your bottom line.Target the Right Audience: Not all customers are motivated by discounts. Tailor your discount offers to specific customer segments, such as new customers, loyal customers, or those who have abandoned their carts. This targeted approach can maximize the effectiveness of your discounts.Set Clear Objectives: Define what you aim to achieve with your discount strategy. Whether it's clearing out old inventory, attracting new customers, or increasing sales during a slow period, having clear goals will help you design more effective discount campaigns.Avoid Over-Discounting: Frequent discounts can lead to customers expecting lower prices and waiting for sales, which can devalue your brand and reduce perceived product quality. Use discounts sparingly to maintain a balance between attracting customers and preserving your brand's value. Monitor and Analyse Results: Track the performance of your discount campaigns to understand their impact on sales, customer behaviour, and overall profitability. Use this data to refine your strategies and make informed decisions about future discounts.By considering these factors, businesses can use discounts effectively to drive sales and enhance customer loyalty without compromising their profitability or brand value.

Welcome to this weeks’ episode of The Australian Small Business Show!
In today’s episode we are joined by returning guest Cat Matson from Impactful Presenters.
Cat first joined us back in Episode 4 of the podcast, where she shared her strategy for the small business owners elevator pitch. Today we are chatting about a slightly different topic.
Today we are talking about doing business your way – and not blindly following every expert who claims to have every answer to all of our business problems.
As we discuss, between the 3 of us we have over 100 years of experience in small business, so we’ve seen a thing or two. We’ve seen some great strategies that work well, and we’ve tried things that definitely didn’t.
We’ve also seen change, a whole lot of it. So we discuss whose advise to follow and when, how the roles of mentors and coaches has changed, and continues to change, and how important (and possible) it is to do business your way, and on your terms.

Welcome to this weeks’ episode of The Australian Small Business Show!
Today we’re staying on the accounting theme, and unpacking how to select the right accountant for your business.
For many of us, Kristy-Lee included, this has been a pain point in the past.
Matt unpacks for us the various qualifications, certifications and licences your accountant should have, and how you can check if they actually have the qualifications they say they do.
We also speak about the difference between the qualifications of an accountant and financial advisor, and whether the same person needs to be both for your business.
Importantly, depending on your needs, we discuss whether you need a specialist accountant, or a series of specialist accountants to handle your requirements, or is in fact a one stop shop the best option for you.
Finally, but most importantly we talk about the need to find an accountant that works with you, communicates with you the way you like and who you feel comfortable working with.

Welcome to this weeks’ episode of The Australian Small Business Show!
Today is Part 1 of a 3 part series we are bringing you on the recent Closing the Loopholes Act which delivered a raft of changes to the Fair Work Act and our Industrial Relations laws.
Today we are tackling the question: is the worker an employee or contractor.
This is a topic that has been an ongoing debate, and lots of employers have been hiding behind non-existent loopholes, or assuming they can make their own rules when it comes to this issue. The truth is that isn’t going to fly anymore, and now is the time to revisit any contractor arrangements you have and make changes.
In this episode, we start by looking at the definition of an employment relationship, and particularly what defines a relationship between and employer and employee versus that of a client and supplier or contractor.
We discuss the various factors to consider when engaging a new worker in order to determine whether they are an employee or a contractor, the importance of getting it right from the outset and where to get advice from about this complex issue.

Welcome to this week's episode of The Australian Small Business Show!
Today Matt and Kristy-Lee are sharing their key end of financial year activities–that are not strictly finance based (although numbers do get a mention).
Quite often in business the plans we set at the beginning of any calendar year, well they simply don’t go to plan. Things change, priorities are re-arranged, clients come and go and we try things that simply don’t work. The end of financial year marks a great time to take stock, check in and reset for the second half of the calendar year.
