Today, we’re in Week 5 of a 6-week series that Darrell taught on the Gospel of John in 1996 at Glendale Presbyterian Church in California, and stepping into one of Darrell’s most beloved parts of Scripture. John has long been a favourite of his—he’s spent decades returning to it, teaching it, and inviting others to encounter Jesus through its pages.
In this message, Darrell examines a story from John 4:43–54. In this passage, we meet a royal official who comes to Jesus desperate—his son is dying, and he’s looking for a miracle. But what unfolds is not quite what he expected. Instead of immediately going with him, Jesus speaks a challenging word. Darrell draws our attention to the power of Jesus’ voice. We find that a word from Jesus doesn’t just describe reality, but creates it. His word invites us to trust, obey, and give up control, even when we can’t yet see the outcome. And ultimately, Jesus speaks the kind of word that gives more than we ask for—not just healing, but life itself.

In this message from John 4, Darrell continues to reflect on the woman at the well as the first great witness to Jesus—someone whose encounter with Christ overflowed into invitation: “Come and see.” He explores how genuine evangelism isn’t forced, but flows naturally from a life transformed by Jesus’ love and dignity. Darrell suggests we are living in times of renewed openness, where people are searching for something more. Ultimately, he invites us to keep the focus on Jesus, share our own story, and trust that the good news will overflow as we ourselves are filled with living water.

In today's message, Darrell unpacks one of the most personal encounters in all of Scripture: Jesus and the woman at the well, drawn from John 4:1-26. In this passage, Jesus meets a woman carrying deep thirst—thirst she doesn’t fully understand, and hasn’t been able to satisfy. And step by step, He breaks through every barrier—cultural, relational, even the barriers within her own heart—to lead her to something more. Here, Jesus reveals himself as the One who quenches our deepest thirst. Not just offering relief, but becoming in us a well of living water.

If last week's message revealed Jesus as the One who brings new life through the miracle at Cana, this week shows us how that transformation happens. In this passage, Jesus enters the temple—and turns everything upside down, but what looks like disruption is actually love, and grace. Jesus reveals Himself not only as the One who makes all things new, but as the One who clears away everything that gets in the way. And at the centre of it all is a bold claim: Jesus doesn’t just come to reform religion but to change it from the inside out. He Himself is the new temple, the place where heaven and earth meet.

Here, we see a Jesus who enters ordinary life, reveals divine glory, and brings transformation: turning water into wine, and pointing to his power to make all things new.

Week 22 | The Great Divide (1995)
This week, we’re releasing the final episode of a series Darrell taught on the Sermon on the Mount in 1995 at Glendale Presbyterian Church in California. Drawing from Matthew 7, Darrell unpacks what he calls the great divide: two paths, two foundations, and ultimately, two ways of living. And the difference, Jesus says, isn’t just what we believe or say, but what we do with His words. Darrell helps us see that the narrow way isn’t restrictive—it’s actually the life we were created for, where faith moves beyond words and begins to take shape in how we live. The invitation is both sobering and hopeful: to trust Jesus as Lord, and to follow Him on the path that leads to life.

Week 21 | Golden Rulers (1995)
This week, we’re in Week 21 of a series Darrell taught on the Sermon on the Mount in 1995 at Glendale Presbyterian Church in California. In this sermon on Matthew 7:1–12, Darrell shows us how Jesus brings the Sermon on the Mount to its climax with the famous Golden Rule. He explains that Jesus’ teaching goes beyond simply avoiding harm and instead calls us to actively treat others the way we ourselves long to be treated. Along the way, Jesus warns against condemning others, calls us to help one another with humility, and reminds us that prayer is the antidote to a judgmental spirit. In the end, Jesus gathers the whole law into one simple but transformative way of life: do to others what you would have them do to you.

This week, we’re in Week 20 of a series Darrell taught on the Sermon on the Mount in 1995 at Glendale Presbyterian Church in California. In this message on Matthew 6:19–34, Darrell explores what Jesus says about the roots of anxiety. He reveals how Jesus’ teaching shows us that anxiety often grows out of three deep movements of the human heart: what we treasure, what we fix our attention on, and whom we ultimately serve. When our security is tied to temporary things, anxiety follows—but when our treasure, vision, and allegiance are centred on God, we discover real freedom. Jesus invites us to stop feeding our worries, start noticing the Father’s care, and keep seeking first the kingdom of God.

Week 6 | On The First Day of The New World (2015)
Today, we're completing a series of sermons from Darrell that correspond with Lent and the Easter season. It is called "The Theatre of Glory" and was delivered by Darrell in 2015 at First Baptist Church in Vancouver.
In this Easter message from John 20:1–18, we listen as Darrell invites us into what he calls “the story of all stories.” Walking carefully through John’s resurrection account, Darrell shows how the first Easter morning is not simply the end of Jesus’ story, but the beginning of a whole new world. As he traces the echoes of Scripture—from the Garden of Eden to the mercy seat of the tabernacle—we discover that the risen Jesus is the gardener of a new creation, inviting us to step into a world born of resurrection, grounded in grace, and filled with his living presence.

Good Friday Meditation | Today in Paradise (2014)
In today’s episode of the podcast, as we head into Easter weekend, we are releasing a standalone meditation that Darrell offered for Good Friday in 2014.
In this message, Darrell reflects on the conversation between Jesus and the thieves on the cross in Luke’s Gospel. As one man turns toward darkness, the other turns toward light, recognizing that the suffering man beside him is actually a king. With a simple request—“Jesus, remember me”—the thief receives far more than he asks for: the promise, “Today you will be with me in paradise.” In this meditation, Darrell explores the surprising generosity of Jesus, who takes even the smallest opening of faith and responds with grace beyond measure.

We're in a series of sermons from Darrell that correspond with Lent and the Easter season. It is called "The Theatre of Glory" and was delivered by Darrell in 2015 at First Baptist Church in Vancouver.
In this message from John 19:17–37, Darrell carefully walks us through the scene of the crucifixion and the moment Jesus declares, “It is finished.” Drawing our attention to the details John records, Darrell helps us see how the cross fulfills the whole story of Scripture—revealing Jesus as the true King, the great High Priest, and the Passover Lamb. In this Lenten message from John 18:28–19:22, Darrell walks us into the charged and complicated encounter between Jesus and Pontius Pilate. Rather than painting Pilate as merely cynical, Darrell helps us feel the political pressure, fear, and confusion he faced, and shows how simply standing in the presence of Jesus began to move him toward truth. As Pilate declares, “I find no guilt in him,” “Behold the man,” and “Behold your king,” we’re invited to consider our own lives: in the tense and compromising spaces we inhabit, what will we say about the One who stands before us?

Week 2 | Who Is On Trial Here? (2015)
We're in a series of sermons from Darrell that correspond with Lent and the Easter season. It is called "The Theatre of Glory" and was delivered by Darrell in 2015 at First Baptist Church in Vancouver.
In this Lenten message from John 18:12–27, Darrell invites us to look closely at how Jesus stands faithful under interrogation while his disciple Peter collapses under pressure. As Jesus refuses to deny the truth, Peter denies even knowing Him—revealing the stark contrast between human weakness and divine faithfulness. Yet Peter’s fall is not the end of the story; it becomes the doorway to grace, as he discovers that true discipleship begins with the death of self-reliance. In the end, our salvation rests not on the strength of our faith, but on the unwavering faithfulness of Jesus—the only One who stands when all others fall.

Week 1 | They Arrested God! (2015)
This week, we're releasing the first of a series of sermons from Darrell that correspond with Lent and the Easter season. This series was delivered by Darrell in 2015 at First Baptist Church in Vancouver and is called “The Theatre of Glory.”
Drawing on this phrase from John Calvin, Darrell invites us to see the final hours of Jesus’ life not merely as suffering, but as the decisive revelation of God’s glory, the weighty essence of who God truly is. Throughout the series, Darrell will explore John 18-19, lingering in the arrest, trial, and crucifixion to help us behold what John wants us to see: that the cross is not tragedy spiraling out of control, but glory fully and freely revealed.
In this first message, centred on John 18:1–12, we enter the garden where Jesus steps forward and declares, “I AM.” The soldiers fall back, and we glimpse the stunning mystery at the heart of the gospel: it is the great I AM who is being arrested.

Week 19 | Bringing Heaven Down to Earth (1995)
This week, we’re in Week 19 of a series Darrell taught on the Sermon on the Mount in 1995 at Glendale Presbyterian Church in California. In this sermon on Matthew 6:9–10, Darrell reveals that the Lord's Prayer is about inviting God to bring His heavenly reality down to earth through our prayers. He explains that when we pray "on earth as it is in heaven," we're participating in God's work to transform the world—and that prayer in secret can change history more profoundly than public ministry. Week 17 | Love Enemies (1995)
This week, we’re in Week 17 of a series Darrell taught on the Sermon on the Mount in 1995 at Glendale Presbyterian Church in California. In this message on Matthew 5:43–48, Darrell explores one of Jesus’ most radical and unsettling commands: "love your enemies." Drawing on the rich meaning of agape love, Darrell shows that Jesus is not calling us to feel differently, but to will the good of those who oppose us. This teaching confronts our instinct to hate and reveals how loving our enemies breaks cycles of violence and forms us into mature children of our Father. Ultimately, this is a call to live out the very love God has shown to us in Christ.

This week, we’re in Week 16 of a series Darrell taught on the Sermon on the Mount in 1995 at Glendale Presbyterian Church in California. In this message, Darrell courageously engages Jesus’ hard words on divorce, holding together truth and grace in the midst of deep relational pain. He shows how Jesus’ teaching defends the dignity of women, calls us back to God’s original “one flesh” vision for marriage, and honestly acknowledges the devastating reality of sin.
