As we recorded this, the Dodgers were cementing their NL pennant-clinching victory to go up against the Yankees for the umpteenth time in the World Series. We discuss the league championship series, weird slumps by elite relievers, who's going to pay Juan Soto a billion dollars, getting baseball to the masses again, and set up our little offseason team-building game to get the Cubs back into postseason baseball.

With the MLB postseason underway, we talk about the postseason structure and results through the wild card round, suggest some quick fixes to the playoff format even if we think it's fine, and consider how the Cubs can find their way back to the postseason in 2025. Plus some quick words on the late Pete Rose if you dare to listen.

With the trade deadline looming, the Cubs did some trades and we discuss the ramifications of "not totally selling," smart buying, give tribute to the potential and awesomeness that is Christopher Morel, and discuss softball etiquette.

The Cubs may or may not be coming out of their huge slump, but the outlook isn't all bad. We discuss Craig Counsell magic (or lack thereof), the usual stuff about the offense and the bullpen, and some cause for hope in the near future before the trade season ramps up. Plus Rice is moving and we pay tribute to the great Willie Mays.

With the Cubs in a prolonged slump and answers seemingly eluding the powers that be, the Dreamcast ponders what is going wrong and what the players, coaches, and front office might do to fix things. Topics include the process, luck, and trying to tie it all together to make a run before the trade deadline. Also some bonus talk about those infield fly interference calls!

As the Cubs continue to scuffle while awaiting returns from injury and hopefully better performances, the Dreamcast crew get together to discuss the great starting pitching, what to do about the not-so-mighty M-guys, the coming of new prospects, and what's coming ahead after this off day.

With the Cubs continuing to weather early season underperformance and poor injury luck, we still have to count our blessings for the team's strong start! We talk about the rotation strength and depth, the issues with the bullpen and Craig Counsell's limited options, the Cubs' place in the standings, and what comes next. Plus some bonus talk about baseball on TV and our love of Pat Hughes.

Injuries and poor performances marred the Cubs' record to start the season, but despite the title of this episode, the North Siders hold firm and stay on a winning pace entering an off day. Rice and the Obstructed View crew wrap up the Shohei Ohtani saga, talk about the highs and lows of the games played so far, what to do about Kyle Hendricks, and where we are going from here as the big guns return from the injured list.

At the end of a rather predictable Oscars ceremony, we got together to talk about Christopher Morel manning third base, some options for the Cubs bench and to paper over some nagging injuries that may spill into the regular season, make fun of the A's some more, and discuss the straggling unsigned free agents and some interesting new rule enforcements.

We get together right after the Cubs' inevitable but still surprising Cody Bellinger signing (at least they agreed to it) to talk about how Cody's return helps the Cubs, some stuff about what Tom Ricketts said about the budget, the spring training action including Christopher Morel's adventures at third base, and more!

As the Super Bowl is over and Taylor Swift's boyfriend won, Rice and Berselius talk about the game that happened before looking at the Cubs preparations for spring training. We also talk about the various stadium situations around the league, some really bad new jerseys, and our hopes for an eventual Cody Bellinger reunion.

Since the Cubs (and MLB by extension) aren't doing much in the way of transactions, we are left with very little tangible content and a whole lot of speculation. Rice and Berselius get together to talk a bit of football, the waiting for Cody Bellinger (and others), what's going on with team ownership groups, the changing sports TV landscape, and the Hall of Fame announcement that just happened. Maybe by the time we see you next, the Cubs will have finally done something else, or we will be at spring training with little new to report.

Alright folks, not much has happened for the Cubs since last year, but since "last year" was right before Christmas and "this year" just barely started, maybe it's not so bad? Skip and Rice hang out to talk about the lack of action, and what can still be done to make this Cubs team competitive in 2024. Plus some musings on how to speed up the transaction process for our own entertainment.

As the Cubs lost out on Plan A (Shohei Ohtani) and Plan B (Juan Soto), we look at the shenanigans leading up to Ohtani's declaration of fealty to the Dodgers, the various journalistic failures surrounding free agency so far, and what the Cubs can still do between now and spring training to get back to the postseason even though they did lose out on the big boys.

Right after the awards announcements but before Thanksgiving, there is a lull of transactional fun as the Cubs fill their coaching staff, protect some prospects from Rule 5, and re-sign our handsome hero, Patrick Wisdom. We dream about forever Cub Shohei Ohtani, some other moves on the horizon, and are thankful we are not the ex-Oakland A's and their terrible, no-good owner.

Fun fact, we had this recorded the night before free agency, and then the Cubs went and hired Craig Counsell, so you get a two-for-the-price of one as we talk about the World Series that just happened, the Gold Gloves, and then how this new hire changes the trajectory of the potential 2024 World Series champion Cubs...
