From its inception 76 years ago, providing universal healthcare, free at the point of use, for a population of 38 million. In just over three quarters of a century, the population has nearly doubled at 69 million, the NHS has expanded into being the fifth largest employer on the planet.

After six weeks of campaigning, we finally have our answer. The Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer KCB KC MP has been appointed Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after the Labour Party secured a momentous victory, winning a staggering 412 seats to the Conservative Party’s 121, giving Starmer a majority of 174.

This time next week, we will know who our next Prime Minister will be. After what has been a very lacklustre campaign which has done little to enthuse voters about the choice they face on Thursday, Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer are preparing to make their final pitches to the electorate. With more betting scandals, predictions of crushing defeats in polling and an insurgent Nigel Farage, Rishi Sunak is looking down and out.
