  • Mental fatigue is real. We live in a world where we have to make a thousand good decisions each day, and we’re expected to be highly creative at our jobs. That’s why it’s critical to learn how to optimize our brains to function well in this reality. Our guest today, Dr. Mithu Storoni, is here to give us some science-back tactics.
Dr. Mithu Storoni is an University of Cambridge trained physician, neuroscience researcher, and ophthalmic surgeon. She advises multinational corporations on mental performance and stress management. She has accumulated her knowledge in her latest book, “Hyperefficient, How to Optimize Your Brain to Transform the Way You Work.”

If you think being chained to your desk from 9am-5pm or even 5am-9pm makes you an allstar worker, think again. Dr. Mithu explains that we need to tap into the natural rhythms of the brain, and take advantage of what we now know about biochemistry: walking and naps are important for creativity and productivity. He warns about seeing money as an evil thing, giving the example of his grandfather remaining poor his whole life because he held this view. He explains the American Dream is not an amount of money in your bank account, but rather a mindset about freedom that doesn’t exist in many other countries.

  • Push it down and power through. That’s how many of us have become high-achievers. But that’s also how many of us have developed physical and emotional unwellness. Our guests on the show today explain how to reconnect with our bodies to achieve more for internal selves.

Today we’re joined by Jennifer Mann and Karden Rabin, co-authors of “The Secret Language of the Body.” They tell us their personal journeys of being high-achievers, but struggling with fatigue and illness, to being happy, healthier individuals. The key, they share, is tuning into the secret language of the body.

The secret language of the body is sensations, emotions, behaviors, postures, movements, gestures, etc. Jennifer and Karden encourage us to bring awareness to that language, interrupt our typical negative response to it, and redesign a new response. Taking the responsibility to redesign our response is hard, they admit, but it opens up so many beautiful, powerful possibilities.

  • Your company culture should not be designed around what generation your workers come from. It should not rely on being physically present in the office. The number one value and practice of your culture should be adaptability. Dr. Jessica Kriegel joins us today to explain how the data shows adaptable company cultures are the best performing ones.

What many people mistake for generational differences are actually life stage differences. Baby Boomers were a lot like Gen Z when they too were in their twenties. Yes, technology has increased transparency and expectations, and it has even changed where we physically work, but fundamentally we are the same across generations.

Dr. Jessica Kriegel explains how scientists at Stanford analyzed decades of data, finding only one single culture that made a difference in revenue results. In fact, it makes a 4x difference. That culture is the culture of adaptability. She walks us through how to transform your company culture into one of adaptability.

  • Time is the most precious resource in any environment, but it does not often get treated that way at work. Talented workers’ time gets eaten up by meetings, reducing their “flow” and productivity. Matt Martin, joins the show today to talk about changing the culture of scheduling with a little help from technology.

Matt is the CEO and Co-Founder of Clockwise, a very popular calendar tool that's unlocked over six million hours of focus time for employees and resolved four million meeting conflicts. With a heavy dose of ML heuristics and a little bit of AI, Clockwise coordinates meetings so everybody involved gets the best schedule possible, opening up time for workers to reach deep flow states. Clockwise also shares the scheduling analytics with all users so everyone can reflect on how they spent their time, allowing them to adjust as needed.

Take a listen as we discuss the illusion of productivity, deep work, attention residue, and changing cultural norms.

  • After Matt Diamante read The ONE Thing, he decided to give it a try. The ONE thing he chose was to post on social media every day. Now, after only 18 months, Matt has 190,000 Instagram followers, 20,000 followers on TikTok, and his inbox is flooded with business requests for his HeyTony advertising agency. Matt joins us on the show today to explain how The ONE Thing transformed his business.

Matt’s first post was just a video of him sitting on a toilet (don’t worry, fully clothed) and pledging that he would post everyday. This leads to hiring the wrong people for the wrong roles, managing people in the wrong ways, and overall just making life harder for everyone. • If you don’t know your core values, you can end up being wildly successful, but miserable. If you don’t know your team members’ core values, they’re probably going to leave. Today, our colleague Mark Donohue, joins us to talk about what core values are and how to discover them.
We talk about how core values are factual, not aspirational. They aren’t what you aspire to be, but who you are at your core right now. By identifying them, you can better align your decisions with your sense of fulfillment, both in your professional and personal life.
Mark walks us through the process of identifying them, and how they may change over time. We also talk about how to manage conflict around people’s unique core values, finding counterbalances and new ways of doing things.
Plus, we have a little fun with each other about our core values– it can be pretty amusing and endearing when you know your co-workers’ core values.

  • When Dr. James Doty was a kid growing up in tough circumstances, he happened into a magic store and met a woman who taught him the manifestation technique. He tells that story in his wildly popular first book, “Into the Magic Shop.” Today, James joins us to tell us about his new book, “Mind Magic” which covers what happened after he manifested everything he thought he wanted.
As an adult, James’ manifestation of beautiful homes, cars, and life of riches came true. He was a successful neurosurgeon, jetsetting across the world. But he was miserable. After losing millions in the dot com crash, he sat down and rethought his manifestations.
In his new book, James explains that through this process of reflection, he realized that manifestation without compassion for others leads to unhappiness. He digs into the neuroscience behind this phenomenon, and shares the lessons he’s learned.
