  • "Welcome back to The Path to Peace Therapy Podcast. I’m Stephanie Buckley—an AMFT Solution-Focused Therapist specializing in ADHD, OCD, anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. I’m also a mom to a now-thriving 22-year-old neurodivergent son, and I’ve been married for over three decades. So what you hear today isn’t just clinical—it's lived experience, it’s layered, and it’s honest.

“What do I do when my child completely melts down over something like brushing their teeth or going to school?”

To bring today’s topic to life, I’m sharing a real-world conversation with a parent who’s generously volunteered to walk through some of the daily challenges she faces raising her son, Caleb.

She’s not a client of mine—but she’s here to offer a glimpse into her world, so you, the listener, can better understand how these struggles really show up at home.

Whether you’re in the South Bay-Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance, Palos Verdes, El Segundo or if you are anywhere in California, I offer both in-person and telehealth sessions to help you or your family find the calm, clarity, and connection you deserve.

And remember, peace begins with small, intentional steps. I’m here when you’re ready.

Today's episode is all about why family dinner matters—and how something as simple as sitting down together each night can shape your child’s identity, executive functioning, nervous system, and emotional development. Starting this when they are young is highly encouraged. Let’s dive in!!

To the untrained eye, asking a child to “set the table” might look like a basic household chore. But to a therapist, educator, or neuroscientist, it’s a brilliant opportunity to build core executive functioning skills the brain’s high-level tools for planning, organization, impulse control, emotional regulation, and follow-through.

This one five-minute ritual engages multiple executive domains, especially for children with ADHD, anxiety, or sensory processing differences. It’s embedded in rhythm, connected to relationship, and disguised as an ordinary family task. But in truth—it’s daily brain training.

So what you hear today isn’t just clinical—it's lived experience, it’s layered, and it’s honest.

I know what it feels like to second-guess your parenting decisions, to lie awake at night wondering if you were too harsh or not firm enough, and to carry the weight of wanting so badly to get it right—for a child who feels things more deeply, reacts more intensely, and needs more from you than most people understand.

This podcast is where clinical insight meets real life. Because peace isn’t perfect—but it is possible. And most days, it starts with showing up. Imperfectly, but consistently. With a deep breath and a willingness to learn.

    So if you’ve ever wondered:

Am I being too strict? Am I being too soft? Why do my kid’s reactions feel so big—and why do mine feel even bigger? How do I stay calm when my child is anything but? And what do I do when nothing seems to work?

You’re in the right place. I’ve asked myself those same questions more times than I can count—and I want to walk through the answers with you, one compassionate, honest conversation at a time.

Today’s episode is a big one—and honestly, it’s one I wish someone had handed me years ago.

We’re diving into: How your parenting style literally shapes your child’s brain, behavior, and self-worth—especially when you’re raising a neurodivergent child.

Today, I want to talk about the part of ADHD that doesn’t get enough airtime: how it quietly shapes the entire family system. Not just the child with the diagnosis, but the sibling who becomes 'the easy one.' The parent who slowly becomes the household manager. The partner who fades into the background. The joy that gets replaced by survival.

In this episode, we’re naming the silent impact—and giving you tools to repair it.”

  • Welcome back to The Path to Peace Therapy Podcast. I’m Stephanie Buckley—an AMFT Solution-Focused Therapist who specializes in ADHD, OCD, anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. I’m also a mom to a now-thriving 22-year-old neurodivergent son and have been married for over three decades. Here, we talk about the messy, real-life intersections of mental health and relationships—with clarity, compassion, and practical tools you can use today.

    Let me ask you something:

Have you ever asked your partner to do something—something totally reasonable, like take out the trash or help with dinner—and they suddenly act like you’ve just asked them to run a marathon barefoot?

Your partner’s struggle with “simple” tasks isn’t laziness or selfishness. It’s executive dysfunction. And dopamine is the driver.

    Let’s break that down.

Executive dysfunction refers to the difficulties people with ADHD have when it comes to starting tasks, planning ahead, switching gears, staying organized, or remembering to follow through. It's like the brain's CEO is off-duty—or stuck in traffic. Even if they want to help or get things done, their brain struggles to coordinate the steps required.

Today’s episode is for the partner who’s quietly wondering: Is this still ADHD... or something more?" "Why does it feel like I’m managing everything—including their use?" "Am I watching the person I love disappear behind distraction, disconnection, or dependency?"

Today’s episode is one that comes up a lot with families I work with, especially when a parent or partner is staring at someone they love thinking, “Wait
 is this ADHD
or are they just really self-centered?” You’re not imagining it, some of the behaviors we see in ADHD and narcissistic personality traits do look similar on the surface. But understanding the why
 behind those behaviors
..That’s where things get really different

How ADHD Can Get Misread as Narcissism When ADHD is undiagnosed or unsupported, it can start to look narcissistic: The constant forgetfulness can appear selfish. The need for stimulation can appear reckless.

  • Welcome back to The Path to Peace Therapy Podcast, where we explore the tools, truths, and tiny steps that lead to big changes. I’m your host, Stephanie Buckley, an AMFT therapist, mom, and fellow traveler on this journey to peace. Today, we’re diving into a powerful approach that shifts the spotlight from problems to possibilities: Solution-Focused Therapy. Let’s explore how this method helps individuals and families facing depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, and bipolar disorder reclaim a sense of hope, direction, and strength.

First, What Is Solution-Focused Therapy? Solution-Focused Therapy—or SFT—is a short-term, goal-directed approach that centers on solutions, not problems. Rather than digging deep into the past, Solution Focused Therapy asks, “What’s working?” and “What will life look like when things get better?” It’s based on the belief that people already have the resources and strengths they need—and that with the right questions, they can access those tools.

Around here, we keep it honest, grounded, and always focused on what works.

Today, we’re continuing our Parenting Through Divorce Series with an episode that answers a question I take into consideration all the time: Is it ADHD or is it the divorce? When II'm working with new clients. Because sometimes what looks like inattention, defiance, or emotional overload is actually a child struggling with the stress of a fractured family system. So let’s break it down.
