Most of us instinctively try and push difficult feelings and emotions away. If we don’t face the source, however, these emotions will keep popping up and upsetting us in different and unscheduled ways. Why do we push them away? It can just feel too scary to let them come to the surface! RAIN is a way to gently investigate and deal with those “yucky” situations, giving us a tool to really start feeling a difference.

Outward focused meditations are those that aim at opening our hearts and kindness to others: loved ones, acquaintances, and all creature on Earth. This might sound a little esoteric to some, but practicing the same openness and gentleness we have been turning toward ourselves in the past weeks meditations, in our relationship with others can bring us a level of fulfillment and happiness that inward facing attention will never achieve.

The number one tip to having a calm birth? Practice! In my work as a hypnobirthing instructor I see lots of parents-to-be not focusing enough on the one exercise I think has the most influence on how the mother will experience the birth. They forget to practice. We have all heard of athletes visualizing the perfect shot on goal, the perfect kick, well, how about visualizing the perfect birth?
When you change the way you view birth, the way you birth will change”. -Marie Mongan

“Self-respect is not the same as self-confidence or self-esteem…It is not earned by being better than other people at something. It is earned by being better than you used to be, by being dependable in times of testing, straight in times of temptation. It emerges in one who is morally dependable. Self-respect is produced by inner triumphs, not external ones.”
― David Brooks, "The Road to Character"
It is incorrect to believe you are just the way you are and you cannot change it. “I’m not good at small talk”. “I am not good with money”. “That’s just the way I am”. Wrong! It is very much possible to change how we interact with other people, ourselves and the environment. You can add, remove, expand personal characteristics and behavior if you are willing to put in a bit of effort.
In this episode I take you through an exercise that shows you how to achieve becoming more of the person you want to be, one simple step at a time, one characteristic at a time.
Be well and enjoy growth.

The Wonders of Walking
If you are having a hard time solving a problem - whether at work, or an emotional hurdle, or even what to write in that next paragraph - simply going on a walk may be the most effective strategy to get to the next step (ha ha). When we go on a walk, we make it easier for the two halves of our brain to communicate. That means, the creative, spontaneous, emotional sides can mix with the logical, controlling and detailed sides of our minds. And then, voila! Suddenly, it we feel better and can think more clearly.
Listen to this weeks episode to hear more about how walking, the easiest thing on Earth, is so amazingly good for your mind, spirit and body.
Be well.

Sabrina Spellman does it, Samantha did it, Harry Potter and his peeps did it. Why not you? Make your own protection spell! Life is not always easy, but some people are able to bounce back from bad experiences with little collateral damage, while others wallow in negativity for ions. The key to it all is building a cloak of protection and strength, thereby gaining resiliency. Here I take you through a guided mediation to help you find your own inner strength to battle off every day bad shit. Repeat frequently and soon you will find all negative comments, mishaps, and experiences simply sliding by, without getting their claws in you.
Be well. Be strong.

Let food be thy medicine.
HippocratesThe foods we eat can have a major impact on our moods. For decades there has been a growing mountain of evidence showing that certain foods can, for example, trigger the symptoms of mental illnesses all across the spectrum from autism to schizophrenia. The foods you are eating can also be increasing your levels of stress, anxiety and depression without you even realising it. While stuck at home and emptying out our pantries, there are some foods you may want to consider avoiding or adding to your diet to best support your mental wellness.
In this episode I interview Dr. Alicia McCubbins, a board certified naturopathic physician on the link between food and mood. So go ahead and dig in to this week’s podcast.
If you are interested in getting in contact with Dr. McCubbins, check out her webpage.

Rewriting Your Story, Changing Your Future
Sometimes we can be our own saboteurs. We let our own negative thoughts and beliefs about ourselves - collectively, what I call, our story - dictate our mood, set our own limitations on success, and negatively effect our careers and relationships. The good news is, you can rewrite your stories. You can gain self-confidence, resiliency, mental, and physical health, and much more. If you can change the way you think about yourself, you can open up opportunities in the future that otherwise would have been closed to you.
Have a listen to this easy, but powerful exercise and start your new chapter today.
Be well. Be gracious.

“Sleep is God. Go worship.” ― Jim Butcher, Death Masks
A few weeks ago I had one of those horrible, no good, very bad days. I basically woke up as the sh*t was already hitting the fan…or at least that’s the way it felt. In short, I felt depressed, exhausted and like the last clump of dirt on Earth. It took until late in the afternoon until I finally put two and two together; all my anger, confusion, and blueness had nothing to do with my life or experiences. I simply had not had enough sleep the night before.
Here are two recordings to help you take the next step on your Road to Wellbeing. The first contains explanations and info on healthy sleep practices, the second is a relaxation to assist you during those times when the Sandman is too busy to visit your bed.

Being happy in life, like everything else, is often times simply a question of perspective. If you are going through a rough time or just having a bad day, it is likely that your attention is on all the negative things that are going on around you. Maybe you are even misinterpreting neutral experiences as (such as something someone said) as being negative. A good way to pick up your mood, as well as your level of gratitude, is to focus on all the big and small positive things in your world. Be sure and write them down in order to really remind yourself of all the good out there.
Keep your eyes and your heart open to all the magic!
