Over the years, the Mozambique government and the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC) have built up strong relationships with communities living around the Park, local authorities and international organizations to strengthen their capacity to combat poaching of the country’s largest protected areas, in order to make conservation and the sustainable use of its natural resources a priority for the country’s future development.
In this final episode, we take a look at the long-standing relationship between ANAC, Limpopo National Park and AFD, and how this collaboration has evolved over the years, as well as what the future holds for conservation of biodiversity and wildlife in Mozambique.

As part of the Protected Areas and Elephant Conservation in Mozambique (APPEM) project, a team of Mozambican and international experts flew over a total area of 180 773 km² under the guidance of the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC), with support from AFD. The objective: count elephants, document the type and location of human activities in the buffer zone and to estimate the number and location of other species of interest.
In this episode, we travel back to Maputo to speak with the ANAC project coordinator for the APPEM project about the organization's contribution to wildlife preservation in Mozambique.

In a park that is over 1 000 000 ha, rangers deployed at the Forward Operation Base (FOB) play a critical role in the daily counter-poaching operations. We meet some of the rangers and explore the camp where rangers spend long weeks and months away from their families and loved ones, in order to play their vital role in conservation management and protection.
In this episode we visit the FOB, the section of Limpopo National Park located about 26 km to the border joining with Kruger National Park and the heart of the park.

Poaching between Limpopo National Park in Mozambique and Kruger National Park in South Africa grew largely between 2010 and 2018, a time when the “Ivory Road”, the trade route linking Africa to Asia, was booming.
In this episode we go back a few years, to a time when elephants and other game were fleeing from Limpopo National Park and poaching was at its worst. We visit the park to document efforts to mitigate the ever existing threat to wildlife in the area.

Join us on the journey to Limpopo National Park, located in the Gaza Province of Mozambique, where we document how poaching has destabilised conservation areas, resulting in the disappearance of more than half of all elephants in the country over the past 10 years.
We find out how Administração Nacional das Áreas de Conservação (ANAC), the state institution responsible for the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable development of Mozambique's ecotourism with support from Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the international community as well as Peace Park Foundation have helped to address threats to biodiversity in the park.
We take a deep dive into the daily counter-poaching operations implemented at the park, home to the rangers, where they spend weeks and months away from their families and loved ones to play their critical role in conservation management and protection.
