Episodit

  • In this episode, I sit down with my good friend Anita Bartholomew, who is deep into writing her upcoming book, "Sacrificial Lambs," which explores the alarming indoctrination happening in our K-12 education system. Have you ever wondered how children are being taught about gender identity in first grade? What happens when the lines between education and ideology blur?

Anita shares her journey from being a traditional liberal to confronting the radical shifts in educational content, particularly around queer theory and gender ideology. We discuss the troubling rise in young people identifying as transgender and the role schools play in this phenomenon. How are children being primed for these beliefs, and what impact does this have on their mental health?

We dive into shocking examples of curriculum materials that normalize complex and abstract concepts about gender for young children. Are teachers equipped to handle such sensitive topics, or are they overstepping their bounds? As we unravel these issues, we also touch on the implications of comprehensive sexual education and the troubling trend of keeping parents in the dark. What does this mean for the future of our children? Tune in to discover the answers and more as we navigate this critical conversation.

For almost three decades, Anita Bartholomew has been one of Reader’s Digest’s top reporters, and a contributing editor to the magazine for eight of those years. She’s covered a vast range of stories over the course of her career. But what’s always animated her writing, no matter the topic, is her focus on the people involved, how they coped with the extraordinary events affecting their lives. Her current book project, about how the trans cult targets kids, combines in-depth reporting and analysis with vignettes about the real people trying to maintain sanity in what amounts to a mass psychosis afflicting nearly all of the western world. She is the co-author of the award-winning medical memoir SOMETHING TO PROVE, and the author of SIEGE, about the January 6, 2021 US Capitol uprising. Two of her narratives have been adapted as TV movies, one for Netflix and another for Lifetime. AnitaBartholomew.com

  • Laura Wiley Haynes returns to shed light on the complex intergenerational aspects of the current gender crisis. Why do so many young people today seem unable to launch into adulthood, remaining perennially online and disembodied, reportedly held back by feelings they label “dysphoria?” What developmental shifts have occurred in parenting over the last few generations that might explain this phenomenon?

Laura shares her insights on how the lack of dyadic care—one-on-one nurturing relationships—has contributed to a generation of children who struggle with self-perception and emotional regulation. Could the rise of screens and social media be robbing our kids of the deep, relational connections they need to thrive? We explore the implications of group care environments and how they may hinder the development of essential social skills.

As we discuss the alarming trend of young adults romanticizing their emotional turmoil, I ask: what happens when a young man on estrogen experiences mood swings reminiscent of a teenage girl? Is this a sign of deeper unresolved issues? Join us as we unpack these critical questions and more, revealing the intricate web of attachment, trauma, and the urgent need for effective parenting in today’s world. Tune in to discover how we can better support our children in navigating their identities and emotions.

  • Like so many other young women I’ve met in my counseling career, Taylor was prescribed both SSRI antidepressants and hormonal birth control shortly after she hit puberty, and remained on both types of pills until her 20’s, impacting her libido, identity, body image, and self-esteem. Somewhere along the way, she developed gender dysphoria and a fixation on the idea that becoming a “trans man” would solve her psychological problems. But when she stopped taking meds, her “dysphoria” lifted like a fog. What happened here? And what can Taylor’s story tell us about the possibility of a massively underreported iatrogenic pipeline of young women being ushered from hormonal contraceptives and SSRI’s at puberty, to testosterone and mastectomies in their 20’s after years of low libido and identity instability?

Due to the many years Taylor Murphy spent thinking she was transgender and wanting to transition into a man, she now shares her cured experience of gender dysphoria and how it was related to the medication she was on. She shares her concerns on the side effects of medication and transition. Follow her on X @taymurph26

  • Parents of trans-identified adolescents and young adults need educational resources that go beyond merely explaining why gender ideology and medicalization are harmful. They need tools that help them understand the psychological state their adolescent and young adult children are in, and teach them different approaches to communicating that are more likely to succeed than to backfire given their kids’ state of mind.

I created The ROGD Repair Course and Community with this in mind. It’s a comprehensive toolkit designed to empower concerned parents to help get their kids out of this mess while restoring their relationships — and their sanity.

ROGD Repair is a promising new program designed to equip parents of trans-identified adolescents and young adults with a comprehensive and customizable toolkit of psychology concepts and communication skills, curated specifically to help them walk their children toward desistance while protecting parents’ own sanity.

Imagine if parents of “trans” identified kids actually had a way to walk them out of this mess, wisely and strategically, and bring them home to safety and sanity.

Imagine if every new ROGD parent knew which pitfalls to avoid when communicating with zealous adolescents and young adults. What if, instead, these parents could skillfully apply time-tested communication techniques, suited to address the mental state of gender-confused youth? What if the youth’s own fears and motivations could actually lead them toward health, harmony and wholeness?

What if parents could protect their sanity and their most important relationships at the same time, all while improving their odds of rescuing their children from the clutches of a harmful ideology before any bodily harm takes place?

The ROGD Repair Course + Community for Parents is designed to do all of that. And now, it’s available to the public, at a fraction of the cost of coaching.

Parents can learn the tools from 90+ video and written lessons on their own time and begin implementing them immediately. Discuss the Reflection Questions with their spouse or a buddy, or journal straight into the program. Ask questions, share insights, and request new topics in the community forums.

Right now I am offering the first 100 people to enroll post-launch an incredible offer that won’t come again. Coupon code FIRST100 takes 50% off every month a student remains enrolled in the program, for as long as they need to stay. Simply visit ROGDrepair.com and enter the code FIRST100 at checkout to use this offer. This special offer is my way of saying thanks for being part of the launching phase of this project, while we are still building a robust community.

If that code has been used up, you can still use code SOMETHERAPIST2024 to take 50% off your first month until the end of the year.

If you have an audience of your own who you think would want to know about ROGD Repair (eg., a popular podcast or blog), and you would consider promoting this resource, reach out to me with your website and a bit about you, and I will give you access to the course so you can check it out. • Jane Wise is a certified addictions counselor who, like me, provides both individual and group support for parents of ROGD kids. After learning that parents who questioned their children's gender identity were not only lacking in support, but were being called bigots and transphobes just for worrying about their kids, Jane decided to use her skills as a group counselor to help provide a space for them to support each other.

In this episode, we compare and contrast our approaches to helping ROGD parents, work that occupies relatively new and uncharted territory in a cultural and political landscape that remains hostile toward the concerns of both parents and mental health professionals. Jane shares her personal evolution from a staunch supporter of the trans movement to a critical observer, shedding light on the struggles faced by parents navigating rapid onset gender dysphoria in their children.

The episode touches on the delicate balance between offering support and avoiding enabling harmful decisions, drawing parallels between addiction dynamics and gender identity exploration. We discuss the emotional turmoil experienced by parents, the impact of societal pressures, and the importance of maintaining hope amidst uncertainty. We explore the concept of motivational interviewing and its application in guiding parents through difficult conversations with their children. I also share a sneak preview of a few concepts from my upcoming course for parents.

Jane Wise is a certified addictions counselor who facilitates one of the regional, monthly parent support groups for Parents of ROGD Kids. Jane is not a parent herself, but after learning that parents who questioned their children's gender identity were not only lacking in support, but were being called bigots and transphobes just for worrying about their kids, she decided to use her skills as a group counselor to help provide a space for them to support each other. Jane also provides free individual support to parents of ROGD kids by appointment, and they do not have to belong to the support group she facilitates.

  • My good friend Amy Sousa is a brave and resilient woman presently battling stage 3 breast cancer. We delve into the complex emotions and decisions Amy faces as she navigates her cancer journey. Amy shares her unique perspective on the significance of breasts, challenging societal norms and gender ideology. We explore the impact of cancer on her embodiment activism and the importance of self-acceptance and love.

Amy discusses her holistic approach to treatment, incorporating a metabolic approach alongside traditional chemotherapy. We uncover the power of nutrition and lifestyle choices in supporting the body's natural healing processes.

We explore the boundaries and intersections between the psyche and the body in the context of illness. Why might people who identify as transgender claim to have “phantom limb sensations” about body parts they’ve never had? And when cosmetic, optional, life-shortening procedures are reframed as “medically necessary,” how does this affect the flow of medical resources toward those truly in need?

Join us as we unravel the complexities of cancer treatment, the mind-body connection, and the resilience of the human spirit.

  • In this episode, I sit down with Tamara Pietzke, a mental health therapist best known for having blown the whistle on gender affirming care this past February in a Free Press article. What has she been up to since then?

We discuss the complexities of therapists being pressured to rubber stamp gender identities and recommend medical interventions. Tamara shares her experiences challenging the status quo and the backlash she faced for questioning the rush to affirm identities.

We explore the ethical dilemmas therapists face when young clients demand immediate medicalization, and confront the myths surrounding suicide risk and prevention in the transgender population. How do we navigate the fine line between supporting individuals in the moment and ensuring their long-term well-being? The conversation touches on the hot-cold empathy gap, the sunk cost fallacy, and the conveyor-belt nature of the gender industry, shedding light on the challenges of helping vulnerable youth in today's society.

Join us as we unravel the layers of social contagion, neuroplasticity, and the impact of social transitioning on young minds. Can therapy provide a safe space for exploration beyond immediate demands for medical interventions? Tune in to discover how therapists like Tamara navigate the delicate balance of protecting the holistic health of their clients.

Tamara is a mental health therapist (licensed independent clinical social worker) and has been a therapist for twelve years. She has worked a number of places, but most recently was working at Multicare, one of the state's largest hospital systems, for the past six years. When she raised concerns about the shift towards mandated "gender affirming care," she was bullied and dismissed. She stopped working there January of 2024, a couple weeks before her whistleblowing article came out in the Free Press. From Multicare, she went to another practice, but they let her go after three weeks, the same week the article came out, simply saying she wasn't "the right fit for the position." She has since been working on building a private practice. Meanwhile, the state is now investigating her license on account of not being "gender affirming.”

  • LaRell and Valerie Herbert are a married couple with a very unique story. During their time together, LaRell first believed he was a transgender woman and went through full sex trait modification before awakening to self-acceptance as a man.

Join us as we explore their journey through somatic psychology and psychedelic integration. How did their relationship withstand the challenges of detransitioning, medical trauma, and identity crises? What impact did their individual traumas have on their journey?

Discover the intricate dynamics of their blended family and the unexpected twists that unfolded as they navigated the medical pipeline of gender transition. How did their experiences with therapists and surgeons shape their perspectives on identity and healing? Tune in to uncover the profound insights and personal growth that emerged from their transformative journey.

Valerie is a somatic trauma-informed mentor and teacher. She is an earth ceremonialist and weaves wisdom through understanding and learning more about our innate goodness and wildness from connection with Mother Earth and learning from her elements. Although she is classically trained as a systems thinker and understands theoretical approaches and methods of healing trauma, she finds that creating a deep, loving, consistent, and safe relationship and container is how people heal. Valerie helps people remember the wholeness of who they are.

LaRell Herbert is a former transwoman who lived for years believing he was a female born in the wrong body. This belief led him to pursue hormone replacement therapy in 2017 at 36 and gender reassignment surgery in 2019, despite being married to a loving and supportive woman. Through introspection and self-growth, LaRell realized his gender identity was rooted in childhood trauma. In October 2023, he de-transitioned and returned to living as his biologically male self. His journey through trans ideology and lived experience as a trans woman has made him acutely aware of the tragedies young people face when sold the idea of medical transition for happiness. LaRell and his wife Valerie aim to raise awareness about the impact of transition on spouses and family members, recognizing that while transition is a personal choice, it significantly affects those around you.

  • I sit down with three remarkable gentlemen to discuss the complexities of black fatherhood in America. Speaking from their hearts, Adam, Mike and Jeremiah share how it has shaped their characters to embrace the responsibilities, challenges, and blessings of fatherhood. They critically examine societal norms, narratives, and myths that keep black families in survival mode, and explore what it truly means to “do your best” as a parent.

As the conversation unfolds, we touch on the concept of generational curses versus generational choices. Are we destined to repeat the mistakes of our ancestors, or do we have the power to make different decisions and break free from the cycle? We delve into the importance of hope and resilience in the black community, highlighting the need for healing and self-awareness to overcome past traumas and societal limitations.

Join us as we navigate through the complexities of fatherhood, resilience, and societal expectations. How can parents empower themselves and their children to break free from the constraints of generational curses and embrace a future filled with hope and possibility?

  • I sit down with Maia Poet, a 24-year-old Israeli-American writer, researcher, and public speaker with an extraordinary story. Maia began identifying as transgender at the tender age of 12 and recently desisted from this identity after living as a man in the Middle East for several years. What led her to this profound change? How did her experiences in Israel and Palestine shape her understanding of gender and identity?

Maia shares her harrowing escape from the October 7th attacks, narrowly avoiding the chaos due to a last-minute change in plans. What was it like to be on the brink of such a life-altering event? How did her involvement in peace activism between Jewish and Arab children influence her worldview? Maia paints a vivid picture of the optimism and innocence that existed just before the world around her was shattered.

We delve into Maia's unique cultural background, exploring how her Russian Jewish roots and her deep connection to Arab culture influenced her journey. How did studying Arabic and immersing herself in Middle Eastern culture help her reconnect with her Jewish identity? And what role did her trans identification play in her integration into both religious Muslim-Palestinian and Orthodox-Jewish communities?

Join us as we navigate through Maia's compelling narrative, from her early intellectual obsessions to her life-changing experiences in Israel. How did a chance encounter in a West Bank coffee shop and an unexpected Bar Mitzvah at the Western Wall cement her male identity? And what ultimately led her to desist from her trans identity? Tune in to hear Maia's fascinating story and gain insights into the complex interplay of culture, identity, and survival.

  • Today’s episode is unlike any other. Although I had an entirely different episode planned, something came up recently that needed to be addressed. I said something on social media that hit a nerve for a lot of anguished people, namely, ROGD parents — ironically, the population I am most focused on addressing, and typically have great relationships with in the markedly different context of personal consulting. But this wasn’t consulting; it was the social media platform X, where misunderstandings and pile-ons abound while tone and context are in short supply. In turn, the reaction of people who felt hurt left me feeling quite hurt as well.

I spent two days intensively processing what happened and discussing it with trusted advisers. This episode is the result of that processing, and it is probably the most vulnerable thing I will ever express to the public. I ask that anyone impacted by the recent drama take the time to listen. I hope it will also be of value to others interested in how to help families impacted by the gender crisis.

If you were one of the people who felt hurt by what I said on the internet, or perhaps questioned how you should feel about it, please consider what I have to say with an open heart and mind by listening to this message in full. It may resonate in unexpected ways. In an effort to address the ocean of pain inflicted by gender ideology and the ripple effects of brushing up against them, I illuminated aspects of the nature of the beast we are up against, and addressed several interconnected matters many of us have been feeling for a while but perhaps not put words to. Along the way, I addressed matters of grief and anguish; shame and blame; victim/rescuer/perpetrator dynamics; good and evil; idealization and devaluation; and what happens when society is overtaken by a dark force that raises the stakes of our smallest foibles into life-and-death matters. Finally, I suggest a way forward that restores innocence through grace and redemption.

Although I am not normally in the habit of posting videos of myself crying on the internet, on this occasion, it felt important to share my innermost experience with you as I face the heart of the beast that is hurting us all. I invite you to grieve with me. For a fuller experience including body language, you may wish to view this episode as a video on YouTube.

If you don’t want to spend an hour of your time this way, I only ask that you be willing to withhold judgment and refrain from making comments to disparage my reputation, since you are making the choice not to take into consideration what I have to say. That’s a fair request, and I would certainly do the same for you.

Likewise, if you have made critical remarks of me to others, or on social media, but you do take the time to hear me out, and you do end up feeling differently after this, I would appreciate you following up and sharing with those people how this episode impacted your perspective. Again, I would do the same for you.

In case you’re wondering: the hurt and drama surrounding these events caused me to delete the tweets in question, temporarily lock my account, and stop looking at it for a few days. While I thought I screenshotted everything, all I am left with when I look is screenshots of hurtful comments left by others, so I actually find myself without a record of what I originally said. Some people may have taken my choices to delete the tweets, lock my account, and/or ignore social media for a few days to mean something in particular, but my choices meant only that I needed a break from all of it to collect myself. What I have to say is contained in this episode when listened to as a whole.

No timestamps, no ads, no “where to find me,” no outro today.

  • In response to a viral tweet that sparked a heated debate about the natural bond between mothers and babies, I’ve brought together a panel of wise women to delve into the controversial topic of motherhood, daycare, and child-rearing in the 21st century. My guests share personal experiences and expertise in reproductive mental health, child development, and embodiment, shedding light on the biological and cultural aspects of mother-child attachment.

The conversation explores the biological foundations of mother-baby bonding, emphasizing the critical role of early attachment in a child's development. We touch on the impact of daycare on children's emotional well-being and the importance of self-regulation in early childhood. We also examine generational shifts in parenting styles, from stay-at-home moms to working parents, highlighting the evolving dynamics of modern families.

As the discussion unfolds, the guests propose innovative solutions, including on-site daycare at universities and workplaces, and a reimagining of welfare systems to support postpartum parents. They challenge societal norms that undermine women's reproductive biology and advocate for a more holistic approach to childcare. The episode leaves listeners pondering questions about the ideal environment for children, the role of attachment in emotional development, and the need for systemic changes to support families. Tune in to discover how these experts navigate the complexities of motherhood and childcare in today's world.
