The TL;DR: Food security and access to fresh produce is one of the most pressing issues that we can help alleviate. I’ll share my experiences turning my own lawn into a community garden, why we should focus on regenerative agriculture, and answer the FAQs you sent me!

This is Episode #6: Does positivity have a place in the sustainability movement?
The TL;DR: 100% positivity is NOT something required of zero waste advocates. We need positivity (embracing practical accomplishments – big and small) but we can’t let that positivity cloud our reality. Or let positivity be an excuse for bypassing the uncomfortable issues. We’ll talk toxic positivity, spiritual bypassing, and how we can use positivity effectively within zero waste.

The TL;DR: The Global Environmental Outlook 6 (GEO 6) is a massive report that seeks to not only assess how different factors of the environment are, but how their change effects humanity. In this episode, I condense 700+ pages of stats into a 30 minute podcast. Whew.

The TL;DR: It’s easy to stay safe in the feedback loop of Instagram or a small group of local sustainability friends, but that’s not enough to save the planet. To truly effect meaningful change, zero waste and sustainability activism needs to reach everyone – even the conservative. Let’s talk through the how and why.

Episode 3 is all about the dangers of allowing huge corporations to be a part of the zero waste activism conversation.
The TL;DR: As I – and other influencers – have been approached to tout large companies’ sustainability platforms, I wonder when – if ever – do we invite corporations to participate in the conversation around zero waste and sustainability activism? These companies have the money to market themselves in the mainstream with ads… but within the zero waste activism movement itself – do we legitimize them by letting them into the conversation?

The TL;DR: Companies engage in a targets campaign of planned obsolescence, ie. they make sure the products we buy will quickly become out-of-date, break, or unfixable so we’re forced to repurchase. By voiding warranties if you try to repair items yourself, companies are keeping us in a consumption cycle.
