Its is endangered species day! Both here in Canada and in the U.S. so I spend this week talking about endangered species examples from Canada - we look at failures, successes and I give y'all a brief PSA to remind you who TF I am and who this podcast is for. That being said, take some time after the episode to learn more about endangered species management at naturecanada.ca/discover-nature/endangered-species/

Tw: mention of rape and sexual assault This episode is a lesson in accountability, a practice in holding space for myself and acknowledging that we are all "dickheads in recovery" - Kelechi Okafor. I read a letter from a listener, talk about Toronto's subway riding raccoons and escape artist Capybaras before jumping into a discussion about my research here in Vancouver. I end the episode by unpacking of an incredibly violent and delusional email from someone who felt entitled to my time, space and emotional labour. NOT on any day ending with Y will I allow for this behaviour.

The hermit in tarot represents self-isolation. This card speaks to the power of rest and individual reflection. After an isolating couple of weeks, I have been able to reflect on HOW I want this podcast to be perceived and WHO this podcast/this space is for. After 12 episodes, I am excited to end this first chapter and start a new one with a greater focus on building community through this podcast. See y'all in Season 2!

Special shout out to Jahmilla from @thesoulfullveganista for this week's animal of the week suggestion. If you like tentacles, ink sacs, and super-smart animals you are in for a treat this week! The theme of this episode is octopuses with honorable mention of "Inky", New Zealand's most famous 8-legged escape artist. This episode talks about octopuses, the theories for the evolution of intelligence in animals and the dangers of animals escaping enclosures. SOUNDS FUN RIGHT? Have a listen, leave a review and be sure to check out the extra content each week over on Patreon.com/jauntingjay or daily more digestible wildlife content on my I.G. - @jaunting.jay.
