Welcome to 24 Minutes of UX. In this latest installment of our new Ask the Author series, we're joined by Sheryl Cababa as giver and Peter Horvath as seeker.
Sheryl is from Seattle, Washington, USA, where she leads a human-centered design practice that is focused on Systems Thinking and evidence-based design. She is the author of a new book entitled Closing the Loop: Systems Thinking for Designers, published by Rosenfeld Media.
One aspect of Systems Thinking is understanding the relationships and flows between the key actors and structural elements in a system. From a design perspective, this helps us appreciate the wider context of the work we do, and Sheryl does a great job of bringing Systems Thinking out of academic silos and into the light of our everyday design practices.
Our seeker is Peter Horvath, a Strategy and Service Design Lead at Whitespace in Geneva, Switzerland. Peter is keen on applying Systems Thinking in his advisory work with multinational clients, and he devoured Sheryl's book as soon as it came out. He had plenty of questions for Sheryl, and as you'll hear, her answers will be helpful to any designer interested in this topic.

Our seeker is Julia Borkenhagen, Co-founder and Chief Experience Officer at Whitespace, a global design and development agency focused on creating human-centered enterprise solutions for the B2E, B2B, and B2C markets. Lai Ngo is our Seeker this time around. Based in Switzerland, Lai is the Team Lead for UX and Graphic Design at the travel platform Hapimag. She has a diverse career background spanning more than just UX, and she’s a relentless learner. Having recently moved into a design management role, Lai wants to make sure she is providing the best possible guidance to both junior and senior designers on her team. And she has turned to our podcast for some tips.Today's Giver of advice is Shaza Hakim. Shaza is based in Malaysia, and she is the founder and UX principal of Stampede Design, a digital creative agency, which she has been running for over 15 years. She is already active in the community, both as a key figure in the UX Malaysia event and in the local IxDF group.

Today’s topic is ethics in UX. Whose responsibility is it to create an ethical organization? What does it even mean to be ethical? And what does artificial intelligence have to do with any of this? Stay tuned, and you’ll find out.
Our seeker for this episode is Rebecca Parlin, based out of Maine in the United States. Rebecca has over 10 years experience in graphic design, but she is a recent graduate of General Assembly’s User Experience Design program. During her studies she was fascinated with ethics, and how design decisions can change the world for the better - or worse. In her quest for even more information on the topic, she turned to our podcast for answers.
We also welcome our Giver of advice, Sibylle Peuker, Ph.D. Sibylle is a Partner and UX Architect at Zeix, a user-centered design agency in Zurich, Switzerland. What makes her particularly well-suited for today’s topic is that she’s also a university lecturer for Digital Ethics. Sibylle is convinced that good design can make people healthier, happier, and even save lives, and has been the user’s champion for over 15 years.
