Torquay United – Rise and Fall
Welcome to the second episode of Back on the Ball where we take a look at Colin and Dean’s time at Torquay United, including bringing the club back from the brink of collapse through to two trips to Wembley and promotion back to the Football League in 2009, then the events that lead to the downfall of the club back to the National League South.
Colin share’s his experiences at Torquay United as Director of Football and CEO between 2006 and 2010.
Dean shares his experiences as commercial manager of Torquay United between 2010 and 2015.
Also in this episode – the team discuss playing abroad in Finland, Malta & Hong Kong and Fitz shares an interesting story about a visit to Hong Kong.

Ex-professional footballers Dean Edwards and Colin Lee, join broadcasting great David FitzGerald to reflect on their careers and the world of football and broadcasting.
In the first episode we look back at the early days to see where it all started for the team before football academies existed and even before motorways!
Dean started his footballing career with Shrewsbury Town in 1980, even though he was training for Wolves at the time – there’s an interesting story, listen to find out more.
Colin had to choose between playing football or rugby, deciding on football he started his playing career at Bristol City in 1974.
David started his broadcasting career in 1980 in local radio, moving to various radio stations then to Television South West (TSW).
We talk about the early days, career debuts, wages, sponsorships and discipline.
