  • Welcome to the Real Talk episode you didn’t know you needed!

This week we're doing something different—a heart-to-heart co-interview with my dear friend and powerhouse designer, RuthAnn Rafiq! This episode originally aired on the Rebrand with RuthAnn Podcast and RuthAnn has been kind enough to allow us to share on Blaze as well.

  • Is social media really the be-all-end-all of marketing that people make it out to be?

I’ve noticed a trend in my business where the less time I spend on Instagram, the more money I make. So naturally, people ask: how are you doing it? • I left my job to build a business. And instead, all I did was give myself a new job…

Ask any entrepreneur why they started their business and most will say freedom. To do what they want when they want. But ask them if they *have* that freedom they dreamed of, and most will say no.

You may not report to a boss anymore, but you still work long hours and have limited vacation days. Payroll is inconsistent. Deadlines are always looming and between client work and content creation and answering email, you’re left with very little time to do the work you actually want to do. There’s very little structure, very few boundaries, and very little freedom.

Sound familiar? THAT is the problem we’re tackling in today’s episode…

Click play to learn:The real reason you feel tired in your business all the timeThe difference between a job and a business and how you may be building the former without even realizing itHow to leverage income-generating assets for more time + financial freedomWhich system to prioritize FIRST if you’re feeling overworked and overwhelmedThe missing ingredient you need to 10x your business

  • Self-employed women in America charge 47% less than their male counterparts—here’s how to stop undervaluing yourself and attract clients who value your work.

Raising your prices is one of the easiest and fastest ways to increase your revenue, but most female entrepreneurs won’t do it until they’ve exhausted all other options. There’s a lot of internal resistance that comes with asking for more money. We don’t want to be seen as pushy or greedy. Even in cases where you know you’re undercharging, it still feels really hard to press send on that email.

  • Are you blueballing your audience??

We all want to create “value-based content” but sometimes that term gets misconstrued…which is why I’ve brought on my favourite social media guru, Nicole Malthaner to break down how to provide value to your audience AND have fun doing it.

Nicole started her business, Groovy Social, as a means to travel the world. While the 36 countries (& counting) still very much tickle her fancy, she's found her passion in helping aspiring leaders of the online business world leverage their personal brands on Instagram and show up in a way that feels f*cking GOOD.

Her approach to Instagram centers around the very thing it was designed to create: human connection. She shows business owners it's not only possible but simple to create personality-packed, meaningful content you enjoy for an audience filled with human beings you know on a personal level, while also building a brand/business that supports your life. Because if marketing your business on Instagram is a non-negotiable, then you might as well have a good time doing it!

We talk about the nitty-gritty details of how to create conversation-starting content and we’re also getting real about what DOESN’T work on Instagram in 2024, how to set boundaries for yourself, and how to go from resenting social media to showing up in a way that feels good to you.

Hard work does NOT equal success.

It is a tough pill to swallow, but 14-hour work days aren’t actually what’s best for your business. We’ve all been programmed to think working hard is a virtue…but what if it’s actually holding us back?

If you’d told me a year ago that working less was the key to making more money, I would have laughed in your face. But here I am, living proof that not only is it *possible* to work less and earn more but I’m also forced to admit that all those hours spent hustling actually did more harm than good.
