You will hear your co-workers say this a lot: I am not doing it. The labor law says as long as you do not feel comfortable about the job content, or you do not feel safe about the work environment, or you do not feel well that day, or you just do not want to work at that moment, you can say, I am not doing it, then you leave. You won’t get paid for that day, but the company can NOT fire you, as long as you have proof of your claim.

Some loser workers do this: apply for a job, work for a day, next day shows an injury from previous day and provide the proof, then claim WSIB (workplace safety insurance board) insurance benefit, and rest for like six months or more. This is one of the reasons why companies prefer to hire people that is referred by the employees.

You can not copy the way you do business in China here, or you will get sued. You can not curse your employee, or you get sued, you can not force them to work late, or you get sued, you can not delay the payment, or you get sued, you can not sexually harass your employees, or you gotta pay a huge settlement for that. Canada labor law protects the workers more than the business owners, so you can get sued easily. It takes time, but a lot of lawyers are out there lining up to help the employees, as there is more money to make.

Well, it is a good place to be a worker.

After eight months’ study, you will get your graduate certificate. Congratulations, you are now ready to apply for your one year work permit. Now, just like I mentioned before, you have up to 6 month before you apply for the work permit. After you apply, during the 3 months of waiting for your work permit to be approved, you can start working, and that 3 months count.

Keep a good relationship with your classmate, go on dating apps to meet more people, use every method to meet more people---if you want to stay, you need more connections Your first job might be recommended by someone you dated, hey that is cool, people here help each other. I don’t think I need to teach you to protect yourself when getting what you want, as you are an adult, however my attitude toward dating crime is, if you are being stupid, do not blame people who take advantage of it. Or if you are that weak, maybe just stay in China.

We had already talked about the kind of jobs you can apply and what the requirements will be. Here are some heads-up: the employer will not pay you well, you will ge minimum pay, and you will have to work hard, or your employer might refuse to provide you with the documents you need. Well, suck it up. The Canadian government is very aware of it, but they can not force the employers to pay the new immigrants better---most of the new immigrants leave for white company after getting the PR.

Just like every company everywhere, as a new bird, keep your mouth shut. Employees in the Chinese companies like to ask everything about you, but in Canada, you do not need to answer questions you do not want to answer.  Learn to say “I do not feel comfortable talking about it”, or simply just say “I don’t want to talk about it.” Do not be soft to your colleagues, or soon you will be the one everyone blaming everything about.

One more thing:  you do not need to provide any document unless your company requires you to, so do not offer to provide documents unless being asked. Every information that is not required to provide, is a way to protect you in a way. You will know if you get into shitty situation, which I wish you will not.

Yes, you can PAY 200,000 Dollars to get an LMIA job for immigration. No, you will not get salary for this JOB when you arrive at Canada. The company that provides all kinds of documents to support you and be your employer, gets between 70,000  to 100,000 dollars for supporting you. They do not need you at all, as if you go through this way, it means your English sucks, and you do not have any skills that Canada needs. Then again, if you go through this way, you should be a rich person with horrible English and no qualified working experience, so you should not be expecting a job, right?

Yes, the agency will tell you that you can talk to the employer for a job opportunity, however, they mostly will say no. They need to train you from scratch, so if you are willing to pay your employer for actual work experience, it will be great for him though - extra money, why not?

However, if you are THAT rich, I believe you will go with investment immigration.

Yes, you can invest your money here for immigration. No, you can not simply just open a branch of your company in China for it. You need to buy a company, and the price differs from 200,000 Dollars to 800,000 dollars or higher, depending on the location and what kind of business or business sharing is being sold on the market. Most of real rich person goes through this way.

OK, enough said, details differ for each cases. Now let’s move on to next chapter.

Studying in Canada is quite different from studying in China. Let’s start from the first day. The orientation is full of useful information, from where your classroom is, to what to expect when you graduate. The college is very considerate, so they will arrange more than one orientation, as your flight might get delayed.

If you come to areas around Toronto, be prepared to see a lot of non-white classmates - mostly Indian. Oh by the way, we only talk about Toronto before we come, but Toronto actually means downtown, and on the east it is Scarborough - former Chinese region and currently becoming Indian region, on the north you will find Markham and Richmond hill - new Chinese region in the past 10 years, and on the west you see Mississauga - a mixed country side with more and more Chinese people moving over. If you go to Scarborough, Markham or Richmond hill, you will feel like you are still in China - the China back in 2000.

Canada college score system contains your daily performance, such as whether you had attained the class or not, your cooperation with your teammates for each project, and then the final. To sum up, it is more about whether you care about the course, whether you know how to deal with people, and then how well you study.

Pretty much you will be able to graduate, so do not worry if your English level will drag you down---all the college wants to obtain more students, they need you to graduate. Now let’s talk about what you study for - apply for a job, in order to apply for PR.

Canadians do not trust new immigrants---because you know nothing about Canada. To hire you means they need to assign you a mentor, as you do not know the most basic things such as the product name or the manner to talk to the customers, but they pay you minimum, just like they pay everyone working around you, so no one wants to mentor anyone besides their own duty.

That pretty much means, you will only be able to find jobs such as the waiter or daily worker. The pay will start from 14 dollars, and stay that way through your whole study period. Just like I mentioned in my first chapter, it will be difficult for you if you were a highly self-esteemed officer before, as this is definitely the kind of job you would not consider taking. In a word, when you arrive, throw away your ego. Your work experience in China meant nothing, and if they meant a lot to you, your choice should be staying in China.

Now, the agencies told you that you can come to be the Uber driver, or deliver food. Here are things that they did not tell you: it is not that easy to get the driver’s license here in Canada. Remember to go to the driver center and get your Prove of Driver’s Experience. Upon arrival, you can apply for a G1 test---the writing exam. Then with the proof of your driver’s experience, you can go to Service Canada and apply for a G test after one month. For G test, you will need to buy a course, as a lot of the rules are different from China.

Even if you got the G license, the payment will not be as good as you might think. Avery hourly rate for delivering food is not as all the platforms claimed, which is between 15 to 20 dollars--- it is 12 dollars. The basic delivery fee is 4 dollars for each order, and the rest highly depends on the tip. I am not going to lie to you --- the customers are cheap, and they do not tip you well. However, a order of 4 dollars might take up 30 minutes, as you need to drive to the restaurant,  walk into the restaurant and wait for the food to be ready, then drive to deliver it, sometimes you even need to get into some condos, because your customer lives on the 20th floor, and they demand an on-door-delivery. Worst case scenario, you got 2 orders per hour, with 8 dollars income. I am sorry, that is not the worst case scenario, the worst is sitting in your car with no order --- the peak hour is only between 11:00 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 20:00.

OK, now you know how tough it might be, and you have yourself mentally prepared, now let’s talk about the next topic.

Canada is a very interesting country, it has listed all the job titles out for you, and the jobs has classification, from 0, A,B,C. You will need to have 0 or A/B type of jobs both in and out of Canada,  to apply for the PR.

Class 0 are managing jobs, such as store manager, department manager. Class A and B has a lot more options, from sales to admin, from leader to supervisor. We will not talk about Class C (waiter, driver, etc) as it is not useful for you.

It is not like that as long as you find a job as an admin, you will be able to get the PR---some jobs require educational background. If you take a closer look at the job requirement, you will find 2 kinds of wording: the related educational background Might be required - meaning it is for anyone; The related educational back ground IS required - meaning if you did not study for it, don’t bother using this job title to apply.

If you are interested in figuring out whether your current job fits the qualification, google NOC Canada, translate your job to English, and search for it. By the time you are applying for your PR, before getting a job, or asking your kind boss to write you an employment letter, check that list as well. This is one of the reason why most of the PR applicants would rather find a representative to help them --- if you got rejected for submitting with a wrong job title, your time is wasted, and your chance of appling on the best age might have slipped away.

Due to the large amount of the job titles in the list, we will not waste a lot of time on this chapter, and we are moving on to the next chapter - looking for a part time job during your college time.

What the agencies won‘t tell you is that, you can easily figure out if you can immigrate through studying or not. The website is called Comprehensive Ranking System, now, google it. I am going to go with a long paragraph to cover everything about this score system, so be patient, because this is very important.

Through clicking on the options, you will receive your score. Let’s take a 30 year old bachelor degree holder for example. She is single, and 30 years old, after one year’s study in Canada, she now have “Two or more certificates, one must be for a program of three or more years(that means 4 years’ bachelor degree)” , she had an one-year post-graduate certificate, her Ielts result is less than 2 years old, as listening 8, speaking 7, reading 7 and writing 7, and she does not have other language certificate (meaning French only), she had one year’s work experience in Canada, and more than 3 years’ work experience out side of Canada, both of the work experience qualified to apply for PR (we will talk about the qualified job titles in another chapter), she does not have a certificate of qualification from a Canadian province, territory or federal body, no valid job offer supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment, no nomination certificate from a province or territory, and she does not have siblings living in Canada. Now if you click on calculate button, you find the score of 512.

Now you google the updated Round of Invitation, and you will see the current score that qualifies the invitation for immigration. (As of November 2020, the invited score is 473+). If you play the system around for a bit, you will realize, if she is 29 years old when applying for the immigration, her score is 517, but if she is 31, the score is 506.

What does that mean? It means if at the age of 23, you work for three years, and then start the one-year education, work for an year, and apply for immigation at the age of 28, with every step tightly connected to each other, you will have no trouble getting your PR.

Now let’s move on to the job title that you will need to get your PR.

For so many years, immigration through studying has proved to be the most economical and efficient way. Yes, it is the cheapest way, if your English is good enough, and your budget is limited.

With a bachelor’s degree, all you need is a one-year (actually 8 months) post-graduate degree from a college, then you can apply and get one-year work permit. If you fear that you might not be able to get a qualified job quickly, apply for a two-year program, or two one-year program, then you will get three-year work permit.

However, here is the tricky part. You have up to six months to find a job before you HAVE to apply for your work permit. For people that is out-going and with fluent English, you mostly have found a job with the qualified title, or have found a company that is willing to write any title for you.

I am not going to recommand you to go through this if you do not have a bachelor’s degree. Getting a degree in China is way cheaper than going directly to Canada to study, so, get that first.

What you might need to pay attention to is that age matters. Once you reach 30, your age score will be decreased yearly. Plan accordingly if you are still young.

As for Ielts, all the agencies will tell you to get high score as 7778, and yes that helps. You do not necessarily have to get the exact score like this, for example, listening 8.5, speaking and reading 7.0 with writing 6.5, is equivalent to it. Ielts outside of China is a lot easier, so there is no need to worry about it right away-you will take another Ielts exam before you apply for the PR.

We will talk about the score ranking system in the next chapter.

    Your job experience meant nothing.

So many people told me they were very experienced in this field or in that field before they decided to come to Canada. Well I am sorry to tell you but your work experience meant nothing here.

If you were a high self-esteemed officer in the business building, dressing nicely, typing words quickly, handling office relationships smoothly, you are the least needed in Canada. And unfortunately, the majority of my people with sufficient funds to immigrate are like this.

What Canada needed, is Skilled workers with fluent English, such as automobile technicians, cooling and heating technicians, well in a word, technicians. They got paid 35 dollars an hour, or 600 dollars per installation. Officers might got paid starting from 14.25 dollars per hour when coming to Canada, depending on the English level, the company that would take you, and I am sorry to say - the outlook.

99% of Canada’s companies are small business companies, and large companies normally do not take work permit holders. They will not tell you that, because acknowledging it means you can sue them against discrimination, so they will take other candidates that they do not need to support the work permit with, and send you an email saying “after careful consideration, we have moved on with other candidates.” That highly means, just like most of the new immigrants, if you go through the study-work-get PR method, you will have to stay in the small companies, mostly Chinese companies, until you get your PR.

That being said, no need to feel upset. The fact is, even though the pay is low, the job title might what you need- administrative assistant, office coordinator, etc.

We will talk about this in our next chapter.
