Of all the parts , systems and procedures it takes to have a successful chiropractic practice, one of the most important is the day 1 procedure. Once the a patient is in the office, how do you take them through the process of history and exam? I know, we all learned how the alphabet soup of taking a good patient history, but that’s only part of it. Every doctor of chiropractic , art one time or another has been asked , how many visits do I need. While the absolute truth is nobody ever really knows the exact number of visits anybody needs, the answer is also dependent on many factors. Some of the we factors are what the patient thinks, knows or thinks they know AND the best course of treatment based on the doctors experience and expected outcome for their patients. From ‘treat’m & street’m to lifetime maintenance / wellness care its buried in your knowledge and philosophy. As a doctor, in general we are happy to help anyone and everyone who is desirous of our care. While we know that is true, if I really asked you about your favorite patient or patients are, you’d probably (in a confidential setting) name names. If really pressed then we could discuss what it s about them that you really like , and what Ist is that makes them your favorite. Only then could we begin to identify more precisely the types of patients, or people, you really do want to be working with. Imagine if you could fill your practice with all those types of people - and how much more enjoyable your practice could and would be. On this episode we’ll dive into the hard numbers of what average chiropractors earn vs average medical doctors in different specialties. We will also dive into the population at large and other types of doctors (non D.C.’s, non M.D.’s). At the end of the day, healthcare is a bodies for bucks business. Certainly ( and hopefully) income is not why you are a doctor - but the bottom line is the bodies you take care of the more bucks you get paid. Income is the byproduct of rendering great care to our patients. I know if you dedicate yourself to helping people ,helping as many people as possible, you will earn a fine living. Your income should be based on providing outstanding service, and charging a fair fee. I often ask clients, ‘would you pay your fee to receive your care’? So, let’s really look at the money we earn.

As a doctor working with patients, you know it is imperative to perform re-examinations or some regular schedule. The doctors with the most successful practices also do a re- report of findings and explain the next phase of care to the person very shortly after the re-exam has been performed. As a Doctor of Chiropractic it’s easy to fall into a rut and do the same things with your patients ove and over. And over again. Maybe that is proper and reasonable , or maybe not. On today’s show I’ll ask you to really step back and look at , examine and think about the procedures you do with your patients on a routine basis. Are each of them really necessary? Maybe they are or maybe it’s just what you’ve done for so long because that’s what some one else told you to do, because that’s what they did.
