He is here telling us all about one of his latest trips to the Camino de Santiago in Spain. This trail is a walking pilgrimage that has its roots in the Middle Ages. All of the physical preparation they did ahead of time to prepare for the trip. The hostel type lodging (Albergue) that they stayed at along the way. The trail passport and how you get it stamped along the way. How you get a certificate at the end showing you completed the trek. The different people they met along the way and how it differed depending on what part of the trail you were on. Where they ate along the way and what kinds of foods they enjoyed. Tip: Bring cash for this trip since most places in small towns don’t take credit. How the Spanish siesta culture affected them on the trip. Safety tips on the trail and if they felt safe during the length of the trip. How the trail can be very moving and what it’s like to go to church at the end. Tip: Audio books can be helpful along the way to pass the time. What the bathroom situation was like along the way. Tip: Every town had free water fountains so it was easy to fill your bottle anytime. How they made it for 7 weeks with only two outfits and three pairs of underwear. Why they decided not to use their phones, watch news or go on social media. Minimalism and how the trip has inspired them to not have so many things. How the journey can be made in many different ways based on location and travel preferences. Tip: There are services that will transport your bags for you each day. Tip: Head to parking lots very early to get a parking spot or it will be full. Tip: Another reason to start early is that they get a lot of rain later in the day. Tip: Pack snacks and lunch so you don’t have to worry about it when you’re hiking. The kids really enjoyed playing “Eye Spy” and The Junior Ranger Program including their binoculars, headlamps and compasses. Her family hiked and explored RMNP for 3 days. They also took one day to relax. In the town of Estes Park, they shopped a bit and ate at two restaurants: Nepal's Cafe and Cafe de Pho Thai. Tip: Estes Park has a nice children’s play area in the center of town. They did not have many issues with the altitude change but gave themselves a day to adjust at the beginning in Denver as well. Shuttle buses are available in the area from town and also between trailheads. Her family really enjoyed Ride a Kart Amusements for a fun escape from nature. They were lucky enough to see some deer, birds and many chipmunks. She recommends Mill’s Lake Trail for an off the beaten path trail with less traffic. Her and her family truly enjoyed the trip and felt like it was very refreshing. Segment still needs to be added to the end so not sure if it will need more notes here.

  • From the creator of the Hippocratic Hustle Podcast now comes the new podcast sensation, Hippocratic Holiday- Achievable travel for Physician Families. This podcast is the next best thing to being there yourself. On this show you will Learn tips and tricks for travel to marvelous locations around the globe from physicians and physician families just like you!

I don’t know about you but I was born to travel. I did a home-stay experience and lived with a family in Toulouse, France during high school, and in undergrad I spent 6 months abroad studying at a French business school. During that time I backpacked to England and Switzerland and spent many, many weekends in Paris. and then
.. [crickets, long sigh] I went to medical school, and I basically didn’t ever leave the hospital or my house for literally 10 years while I finished residency and fellowship. Who else is like me? Who else is tired of being cooped up indoors? Now I and my family are ready to travel and get out there. and Ive found there are so many places that I want to experience, I’m having a hard time deciding where to go next. So, I created this podcast to help you and I learn together about the many destinations available to us as travelers.

This podcast is meant to set you straight on the path to world and domestic adventure. It will help you get your family out there and experience new places and cultures. And, if you aren’t ready to get out there yourself you can listen as my guests relay the stories of their adventures, and enjoy a good vicarious daydream. Everyone loves escapism!

I also created this show because so many of the podcasts that I found are focused on travel that emphasizes the digital nomad lifestyle— but as physicians often we can’t relate to those shows. I know that physician families are lucky to get a week or 2 off a year to be adventurous, and we want to make the most of that time. But how do new know where to go? What should we do? How do we get there? Will it be a fun place for my kids? \

This show will cover budget kid-friendly weekends to bucket list second honeymoons and everything in between. So come explore with me and my amazing guests.

And do you know the best part? This show features YOU. Are you or your significant other a physician? Do you have an adventure to share with out community?
