In this episode, I’m joined by Alissa Boyer, a mentor for highly sensitive people (HSPs), to discuss the often-overlooked reality of men as HSPs and the unique challenges they face in embracing their sensitivity. And that 20% of the population—men and women alike—are highly sensitive? Yet, due to societal conditioning, men are frequently encouraged to hide their sensitivity, seeing it as a weakness rather than a strength.
Alissa and I dive into the impact of these expectations on men’s emotional expression and how vulnerability can serve as a powerful tool for connection and growth. We explore practical ways for men to nurture empathy and emotional openness and discuss why embracing sensitivity can enrich both personal and professional relationships.
This episode is a must-listen if you’re interested in understanding the role of sensitivity in men’s lives and the transformative power of emotional awareness. Tune in for a thought-provoking conversation that challenges stereotypes and celebrates the strength in vulnerability.

In this solo episode, I explore the nuances of male emotion, drawing on my personal experiences as well as the insights I've gleaned from my professional practice. I examine the biological and cultural factors that shape the male psyche, and why respecting each individual's unique emotional needs is crucial for fostering healthy, fulfilling relationships.
As a psychotherapist who's spent over two decades working with male clients, I've witnessed firsthand the growing confusion and pressure that men face when it comes to emotional expression. In today's rapidly evolving social landscape, the expectations placed on men to be simultaneously stoic and sensitive have become increasingly complex and, at times, even contradictory.
Get ready for an unflinching look at the challenges that men navigate, from the boardroom to the home front. Through empathy and understanding, we'll work to dismantle harmful stereotypes and empower men to proudly embrace the full spectrum of their feelings. After all, true strength lies not in the suppression of emotion, but in the courage to acknowledge it.

In this episode I discuss how striving to maintain balance between your work and personal life at any given time is essentially impossible. Instead, you need to see these two entities as being in a constant flux, and you need to respect that our world is constantly changing.
There will be times where you are required more in one area of your life than another.
It becomes easier when you realize there is no such thing as good or bad, right or wrong. Nothing is so black and white regarding individual personalities, values, and beliefs.
What always does work, however, is when you simplify the situation using a feeling state called ‘compassion’. If you incorporate compassion into the golden rule, everyone wins in business and in life.

Not every conversation advocates for problem-solving or open displays of vulnerability. The only conversations that advocate for these behaviors are those in which change needs to happen. It is typical that in business, we have a problem-solving conversation—not one that calls for a lot of emotion or vulnerability. Why is that? Because we are focused on the end goal, we subsequently check our egos at the door into the boardroom. In business, we know we need to work as a team player or are kicked out of the tribe. A personal relationship can be vulnerable if we want to establish a deep connection. But most conversations that happen in the kitchen do not require a deep connection. You can plan those for date night. Most of the time, in our personal relationships, we just need to talk and work together to manage the mothership. We need to find the best solution for team WE, a.k.a. our family or our relationship. Unfortunately, team WE often gets kicked to the side in personal relationships and team I or ME sneaks in. What I want, what is best for ME, etc.
