  • Charles Joseph Whitman, known infamously as the "Texas Tower Sniper," shocked the world on August 1, 1966, when he climbed to the top of the University of Texas Tower in Austin and opened fire on the public below. By the time his rampage was stopped, 16 people were dead and 31 others wounded. While his final act of violence and its aftermath are well-documented, the early life of Charles Whitman offers critical insights into the forces that shaped him into the man he became. Was there something in Whitman's background, his upbringing, and the pressures he faced that can provide context for his tragic descent into madness?

  • January 16th, 2009 was just like any other day for Linda Bonner.  She got up, went to work, and likely thought anything more about it.  Her husband, Franklin Bonner, was home, though, as he was retired from his job with the City of Chattanooga.  When Linda returned home from work that evening, she walked into something from a nightmare.  Her home was ransacked and Franklin was lying on the ground bound with duct tape and he was unresponsive.  It took nine years for any arrests to be made in the case and when the Bonner family finally thought they had justice, the conviction was reversed and the case remains open.

  • In June of 2013, 24-year-old Sarah Staudte was taken to the local hospital by her mother and younger sister. She’d been getting increasingly sick and by the time she arrived at the hospital, doctors found her to be in organ failure, nearing death. No one could figure out what was causing her sudden illness. It wasn’t long before an anonymous tip urged the Springfield Police Department to take a closer look at Diane Staudte, the mother of the family. Not only was Sarah in the ICU, Mark, her father, and Shaun, her older brother, had all died suddenly in a short period. What detectives found was beyond anything they ever could’ve imagined..

  • Jennifer Daugherty was a kind, loving, and trusting person who believed the absolute best in everyone.  When she met some new friends, she was excited to spend time with them.  Unfortunately, they decided that her life wasn’t a life worth living based on rumors, lies, and jealousy.  Six people that claimed to be Jennifer’s friends held her captive and brutally tortured her for days before ending her life and throwing her away like trash.

  • In April of 2016, UT Austin freshman Haruka Weiser left an evening dance practice to head back to her dorm.  She called her roommate to let her know she was on the way, but she never made it.  When she failed to show up the next morning and missed her early classes, a missing person’s report was filed, and authorities began the search for Haruka along the paths she was known to take between classes.  The next day, her body was found on campus, and with help from surveillance footage, a suspect emerged and was arrested within days.  Haruka’s death led to increased security on campus and left a lasting impact on the UT Austin Community.

  • In August of 2009, Dalia Dippolito got up early one morning and went to the gym, leaving her husband, Mike at home as he was recovering from a surgery.  While at the gym, she got a call from the local Boynton Beach police saying she needed to return home immediately because something terrible had happened.  She was met with police cars everywhere and crime scene tape sectioning everything off.  Dalia was told that someone entered their home and killed Mike as he slept.  But all wasn’t as it seemed, and a tale of murder for hire played out for everyone to watch on an episode of Cops that aired in September of 2011.

  • Hey KQt's,

I need some time to talk to you. I wanted to let you know that Tori has left the show. We have had so much fun over the years bringing you a light true crime podcast and that won’t be changing!

While we may have a few delayed or missing over the next few weeks (it is also summer with kiddos and we just moved!) I will be continuing to release content on our regular schedule with no major gaps.  I may have special guests here and there and I hope to have all of you by my side as I find a new rhythm as a single host.

We ask that you please show respect and consideration during this transition time. We know you may have questions, but we ask that you not reach out to either of us directly.

Thank you for being the BEST community in true crime.  I can’t wait to talk to you soon!

    LYLAS,
    Tyrella

  • We all know the rhyme, “Lizzie Borden took an ax and gave her mother forty whacks.  When she saw what she had done, she gave her father 41,” right?  It’s something most children in America say to scare their little sister or when having a sleepover with friends before saying Bloody Mary three times in the mirror.  Despite the popularity of the rhyme and the crime, Lizzie Borden was acquitted of the murders.  To this day, people remain divided on Lizzie’s guilt, but the one thing we know for sure is that despite the murders having happened over 130 years ago, it remains in infamy.

  • From the 1980s until his eventual capture in 2007, a notorious serial rapist and murderer was active in the Buffalo, New York area. Police had linked this man to three murders and numerous rapes, often attacking women along bike paths, which led to him being called “The Bike Path Killer or Rapist”. His arrest came after DNA evidence connected him to the crimes, leading to a life sentence in prison without the possibility of parole. This case highlighted the importance of forensic science in solving cold cases and bringing long-sought justice to his victims.

  • In June of 2015, Dr. Teresa Sievers was on vacation with her family in Connecticut.  She decided to cut it short and return home so she could see patients at her medical practice, while her husband stayed in Connecticut with their children.  Dr. Sievers was last seen on surveillance in the airport after her flight arrived, as she made her way out and drove home.  When she arrived home, she was brutally attacked by two unknown assailants, who ultimately took her life.  For nearly two months, investigators chased every lead, but were running out of options when a tip came in that led them to the men responsible, nearly 1100 miles away.

  • On February 19, 2008, Karen Matthews dialed 999 to report her 9-year-old daughter, Shannon, missing. She hadn’t seen her since she left for school that morning. The police immediately began looking for the missing girl. Miraculously, she was found 24 days after she had disappeared. She was hidden in an apartment just one mile from her own home. The truth of who was behind the 9-year-old’s kidnapping is truly stranger than fiction.

Kidnapping of a child, hostage, child pornography, general are you fucking kidding me you idiots
