Yoga and Compassion with Dr Sunil Lad, Consultant Psychologist
Today's guest is the wonderful Dr Sunil Lad, Consultant Psychologist in the NHS here in the UK , who has an interest in both yoga and compassion.
We discuss Yoga in the context of what are called the Yamas and Niyamas - the ways in which we relate and conduct ourselves in relation to others and ourselves. The topic of Compassion underpins our conversation and Sunil highlights its utility in areas such as pain management. Also, if you can find a quiet place where you are alone and have some space, Sunil leads us through a brief compassionate yoga session focusing on one just asana (yoga posture).
Finally, he invites us to consider how we take our experience and our practice from the mat into our wider daily lives.

On today's show, our guest is Claire who is an active participant in Adriene's social media community the Kula. If you love yoga and enjoy it for all that it brings you this is a heartwarming conversation.
Claire has a busy job in the NHS and a family both of which demand time, energy and commitment. Our conversation ranges from the benefits of regular yoga practice, even very short sessions of a few minutes to the long twenty minutes flow (a fave of Claire) and beyond.
We discuss friendships and support in the virtual world and how that can then translate into real and lasting face ti face friendships.
We chat about Claire's one and only face to face yoga class (and it wasn't your average one by the way!).
Having an online teacher such as Adriene as opposed to one that we might see face to face.
And of course, the rich, depth, companionship and support that being a member of a community like the Kula brings.
Enjoy and thank you for listening.

Hello and welcome to today's show. Our guest today, Dany, lives in France but is originally from Italy. As she says, she likes to think that she combines the best of both. What shines through is a love of life, joy in teaching, and her very personal journey to discover her true self. We discuss how she has tried different types of Yoga and how Adriene's approach really chimed with her. Regular yoga practice was potent in Dani's ability to deal with stress. So much so that friends and family really noticed the change.
Dani shares with us her delight in helping her pupils learn languages and deal with the everyday stresses of school. Along with two colleagues, she has developed an initiative that teaches their First-year pupils skills in mindfulness and breathwork. The feedback has been very positive, and they also offer similar support to other teaching staff.
We discover the joys, support and acceptance to be found in the Kula. Potentially a social media community quite like any other.
The conversation is at times light-hearted but also deeply inspirational in helping all of us to see how we can get better at dealing with this journey we call life. Essential tools along the way include Yoga, for Dany, her rediscovery of art and drawing and, of course, the fantastic resource that Adriene Mishler offers through her yoga and meditation videos.
I hope that it encourages you to explore Yoga further and build on and find new things that will help you on your personal journey.

The home of yoga is India. Today I talk to Bharat Singh who lives in Dehli, the capital of India. In another relaxing and easy-going conversation we cover a wide range of topics. Bharat loves sport and fitness and currently is on a 100-day running challenge. he has done yoga all his life but when younger wasn't aware that what he was doing was yoga.
He is very proud of his county and has travelled widely around India particularly through his beloved Himalayas. We discuss Ashrams, touch on some of India's holy cities, travel to the remarkable Himalayan country of Bhutan. On our way, we also take a look at some of India's remarkable cuisine in particular one of my and one of Bharat's favourite dishes the Masala Dosa.
Bharat describes how he came across Adriene and why yoga, the Kula and regular meet-ups such as the Lindyhop and the Moohop have become an integral and enriching part of his routine part of his week.
If you are looking for an engaging, stimulating and uplifting conversation between friends this, as with all the other conversations in the Kulaverse podcast Series 1, is for you.
Enjoy and namaste to and warm wishes,
Andrew
