TERPS SHOW THE WAY FOR 4 NEW BIG TEN TEAMS
The Terps took the long road to respectability as Mike Locksley has just posted back to back 8-win seasons. Oregon and USC may scoff at the Maryland 10-year-plan. The Ducks and Trojans want to take the Big Ten by storm right away in the 2024 college football season. Washington is an unknown fresh off its national championship appearance and UCLA may be on a Maryland-type trajectory.

Meanwhile Big Ten teams are all in on recruiting we will have the latest news out of Michigan as they try to land a trio of offensive players. And Oregon and USC try to go after some big, big offensive lineman. Plus the Ducks get another 5-star player. Oregon has a national top 5 class of recruits for 2025.

As the sun set on the Pac 12 this weekend and as we get ready for Big Ten college football, let us clear up some confusion. With the Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA flight from the Pac 12 they still are not quite in the Big Ten - yet. They will be homeless for about a month. Their official start date as full members of the Big Ten Conference begins August 2nd.

Until then we look at where each of the four Pac 12 football teams are in their journey to join the Big Ten. Oregon and USC look ready out of the box. Washington is a complete mystery and UCLA has some work to do. We will look at each of them and the most difficult game on each of their college football schedules.

Recruiting is crazy. Keeping up with it is a full time job. We will have updates from Penn State, Ohio State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan and UCLA just to name a few. There are a lot of wins and losses on the board. Tune in for the latest.

Ohio State has a new school president and, as of this week, a new athletic director in Ross Bjork. That is a lot of change at a school that just saw A.D. Gene Smith retire after 19 glorious years at the helm of one of the most successful athletic departments and college football programs in the country.
YOU ARE FIRED
Gene Smith hired Ryan Day to replace Urban Meyer as the Ohio State Football coach. Ross Bjork, while at Texas A&M, just fired football coach Jimbo Fisher despite the fact that the school still owed him more than 75 million dollars. He is now fully in charge of the Buckeyes athletic department. And new guys in big jobs like to make big changes!
That alone should make Ryan Day uneasy should he lose to TTUN for a 4th straight year. It would be unfair. Ryan Day is a winning football coach and his 2024 team has a real shot at a national championship. But if he falls short of some very lofty expectations then look out!

As we zero in on whether Florida State eventually joins an expanded Big Ten Conference in the constantly changing college football environment, we must ponder whether the Seminoles have a better option.
SHOW US THE MONEY!
One thing is certain, according to Trustee Chair Peter Collins, Florida State is woefully underpaid for its media rights revenue compared to its perceived value among other college football programs in and out of the ACC. All options are on the table for Florida State and its athletic future but we still think jumping to the Big Ten is their best and most likely option.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Elsewhere we were as surprised as anybody when Purdue center Zach Edey went 9th overall to the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA draft. We were certain he would be a first rounder. But we didn’t think he'd be a top ten pick so congratulations to him!
Indiana big man Kel'el Ware went 15th to the Miami Heat and the talented Terrance Shannon Jr out of Illinois went 27th to the Minnesota Timberwolves. We think of the three Big Ten players drafted in the first round, Shannon is the most game-ready right now.

Here is the latest college football expansion and realignment chatter: Florida State and Clemson continue with their lawsuits vs the ACC with an eye toward jumping to a more lucrative conference like the Big Ten. We believe a settlement is the only way out of this college football mess. However, ACC commissioner Jim Phillips is not going to sit by passively and watch his most prestigious college football teams jump ship to the Big Ten without a fight.
EXECUTE THE TV DEAL!
Speaking to the media this week, Phillips said the ACC media rights deal was agreed to and celebrated by all parties involved when signed. He feels the deal should continue to be executed… all the way to its 2036 conclusion. We will share our latest thoughts on all of this
PENN STATE AND RUTGERS WAY TO GO!
Penn State football recruiting continues to play "win some and lose some" with some high profile recruits. Overall, 2025 is shaping up nicely. They did, however lose a 4-star player to Rutgers. Have you noticed Rutgers football recruiting?? They have a top ten national class of their own coming in. Greg Schiano has been impressive.
BREATHE EASY MICHIGAN
We also check in on a couple of Michigan football commits who took visits elsewhere. One of them was even taking a look a rival Michigan State and that got a lot of people's attention. But it looks like the Wolverines can rest easy for now.

As if Ohio State football coach Ryan Day was not already under enough pressure going into the 2024 college football season. But a strong compliment from his predecessor Urban Meyer turned the pressure up a notch. As we discussed last week on Locked on Big 10, Meyer, who is now an analyst for FOX Sports, says the Ohio State football roster is the best college football has seen in ten years… or maybe ever!

Is the NCAA punishment for the Michigan football Spy-Gate scandal coming soon? Reading the college football tea leaves would suggest something is coming within a couple weeks. However, if the punishment is anything like the slap on the wrist the Wolverines agreed to for Burger-Gate, then this could be a light sentence as well. GOOD NEWS IOWA!
Meanwhile there is some great news for Iowa Hawkeyes fans. Quarterback Cade McNamara just got the green light to play ball as he is coming off his season ending knee injury from last season. In the meantime, the Hawkeyes landed an insurance policy with Northwestern transfer QB Brendan Sullivan. However, Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz insists if McNamara is healthy then he will be the starter.

Wisconsin football coach Luke Fickell was talking quarterbacks too. He says he is leaning toward Miami transfer Tyler Van Dyke over Braedyn Locke. We are not so sure! We give our reasons here. Here's a hint: Van Dyke was VERY inconsistent at Miami and Locke showed a lot of poise and talent filling in last year.

We have used a lot of impressive words to describe Michigan football recently. But "explosive" is not one of them. They like more of a dominating ground and pound approach to winning football games. Meanwhile, former Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer says the current Buckeyes roster is the most loaded roster college football has seen in a decade. And maybe all-time! Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin Badgers have big plans for the 2024 college football season and for the second straight year he will rely on a transfer portal quarterback. Last year it was Tanner Mordecai and this year it will be Tyler Van Dyke from the Miami Hurricanes.
RECRUIT A QUARTERBACK PLEASE!
What about recruiting a quarterback suited for Fickell and his air-raid offense? Recruiting has gone really well at Wisconsin except at quarterback. Each year he has landed a mid level QB but he really needs a high end QB who can throw the ball all over the yard.

The time has come for Notre Dame to join the Big Ten and step in line with the rest of college football. Stop pretending there is something special about remaining a college football Independent. The Notre Dame NBC TV deal pales in comparison to what other Big Ten football schools are getting and the fact that both Notre Dame and Big Ten football have contracts with NBC should make the Irish re-evaluate the college football broadcast landscape.
NOTRE DAME AND BIG TEN MAKES SENSE!
Plus, as Locked on Big 10 has long asserted, the fact that every Power school, including Notre Dame, is going to pony up an extra $20 million dollars a year for revenue sharing, seeking higher revenues from a home conference is a must! Notre Dame football finds itself in a similar situation as Florida State and Clemson who are earning far less than their market value on their broadcast deals. At least the Fighting Irish don’t have a $130 million dollar conference exit fee!
In the end, the talk about Notre Dame joining the Big Ten or any other conference is growing louder out of financial necessity.

History says the Oregon Ducks football team has the best chance out of every Big Ten team to win the college football national championship. What about Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, or USC just to name a few? Well, according to history from the last ten college football national champions those schools are lacking some important metrics. But not the Oregon football team. Dan Lanning and his team are sitting pretty and we will tell you how and why.
ANOTHER DEJEAN?
Remember Cooper DeJean, the All-American defensive back and special teamer from the Iowa Hawkeyes? Of course you do! He is in the NFL now but he has a brother who is just as dynamic and the Iowa Hawkeyes have already offered Jaxx DeJean a scholarship! The Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback room is the deepest in the Big Ten and possibly college football. So what is going on? 5 star freshman QB Air Noland reportedly left the program briefly. Or just left campus. Did the Buckeye's QB room get too crowded? Did he consider transferring elsewhere? Was he homesick? What ever the reason for his departure he is back in Columbus now.

Noland's father says he received 45 phone calls from people wondering what was going on. He also said there is nothing to see here. There is nothing to say. His son is back on campus and everything is cool.

Will the 2024 Michigan football team be better than the 2023 team that went undefeated and won the college football national championship? Without Jim Harbaugh? Without JJ McCarthy? Maybe. There seems to be a lot of excitement in Ann Arbor these days.

And the Michigan offensive line has been the best in college football for the past several years. And while most of the line will be new in 2024, it will be full of ready-to-go upper classman. If the success of the 2023 Michigan football team was based on a strong running game and great defense, expect Moore and company to double down on that philosophy.

More college football expansion talk: Is Florida State Athletic Director Michael Alford using the Big Ten as leverage to get a better deal to remain in the ACC? Or does FSU still want out of the ACC at all costs and therefore position the Seminoles for an upgrade to the Big Ten Conference? We will explore the numerous options and lay out some key dates coming soon.
WE THINK FSU WILL…
We still think the latter is the preferred destination, however anything and everything is on the table at this point. Afterall, we are talking about more than a half billion dollars at stake. We will run through the numerous options for schools like Florida State, Clemson and numerous other ACC schools that might be interested in joining the expansion Big Ten and be major forces in college football realignment.
RECRUITING IN FULL SWING
Current Big Ten football schools are in full swing for recruiting the class of 2025. More major news at Michigan, Nebraska, Rutgers and Indiana is all right here. Plus, we have evidence that spending millions of dollars on facilities seems to help recruiting. Everyone, though, seems to be playing catchup to the Ohio State Buckeyes as Ryan Day and company have the consensus number one recruiting class in the country.

PETTY JEALOUSY!
The WNBA old guard doesn’t like the attention the Indiana Fever rookie is getting these days. They feel they need to keep her in her place for now. They feel like they need to show her who is boss. It is very similar to the 1992 Men's Dream Team when Michael Jordan did not want Isiah Thomas on the roster. The two had a heated rivalry on the court and disliked each other.
THIS IS A PROBLEM
The problem with the WNBA old guard is that nobody watched them on TV. Nobody went to their games. And nobody bought their merchandise. Caitlin Clark singlehanded changed all of that in less than a month.
The USA basketball selection committee is making a grave mistake by leaving Clark off of the team. The official roster may be announced Tuesday. Hopefully all of the outcry will wake them up and they will correct this horrible mistake.

Iowa football was the ultimate over-achiever last season. With an anemic offense and great defensive and special teams play, Kirk Ferentz and his Hawkeyes earned 10 wins and a trip to the Big Ten Championship. They amazed the college football world in 2023.
MORE OF THE SAME?
What about the Iowa Hawkeyes offense in 2024? Will their historically bad offense be better or worse than 2023? To be honest it looks like rinse and repeat again this season even though they have a new offensive coordinator in Tim Lester.
HAWKEYES HOPE?
However there is some hope because it looks like the defense will be really, really good despite the loss of Cooper DeJean to the NFL. That might be good enough to get some college football wins in the Big Ten.

Other than Ohio State, Oregon and Penn State who are some Big Ten Football Dark Horses who could win the Conference this season? We came up with a list of 5 teams to discuss. Surely this will create a lot of college football debate.
OSU, UO, PSU… VS EVERYBODY ELSE?
Locked on Big 10 is on the record with Ohio State and Oregon as our picks to be in the Big Ten Championship. And we spent a great deal of time in yesterday's podcast talking about how Penn State is probably a college football playoff team. So what about the rest? We will explain each team's chances on our list. And it is only June!
HE IS A GIANT
Also, the recruiting wars are on! Nebraska coach Matt Rule just offered a full ride to a 6 foot 7 inch giant who has not played organized football in two years! Plus he added a running back to possibly run behind him. And Greg Schiano is killing it in Piscataway! During this past recruiting weekend he closed 10 kids to commit on the spot! This brings his recruiting class to 18 kids. Not only that, but all 18 are 3-star players. That is a strong weekend of work.
TV TIME!
We also learned the actual kickoff times and TV networks for the newly expanded college football playoffs. If you are on the east coast you will love the kickoff times, especially for the college football national championship.

Penn State football coach James Franklin has ten years under his belt at Happy Valley. He won one Big Ten title but has not made it to the college football playoff. But this year the college football playoff expands from 4 to 12 teams. Penn State, almost always ranked in the top 12 under Franklin, should benefit from this expansion more than any other team. But this may also place James Franklin under extreme job pressure.
IT IS ABOUT THE MATH
Let's say three Big Ten teams get into the newly expanded college football playoffs. Ohio State, Oregon, USC, Michigan and Penn State are all viable options. But that means two of those 5 won't get in.
JAMES FRANKLIN HONEYMOON OVER?
Can Penn State football fans handle a James Franklin team being good, but finishing just outside of the playoffs again? We are not so sure. Penn State fans and alumni have lofty expectations.
Speaking of Penn State, the school is renovating Beaver Stadium to the tune of $700 million dollars. School officials promise the site will be used for more than just 7 or 8 football games every year. They plan to use it as a year round business and entertainment hub that could actually turn a profit.
