What we talked about on this episode:
For the purpose of smaller businesses, we are going to talk about the 4 pillars of marketing.
Yes, there are more but my goal is to give you the info you need to take meaningful action.
Pilar 1: Content
You have to create content.
Content is still king.
Your content should fall into the 4 where to start episodes
Refresher:
Experience
Who
Alignment
Authenticity
Types of content:
Common digital products:
eBooks
Downloads/PDFs
How to’s
Checklists/planners/calendars
Online courses
Workbooks
Videos and downloads (bundles of as well)
Templates
Printables
Music/MP3
Audio downloads
Guides
It also should be engaging and/or helpful.
Another big thing with content is being consistent.
Pillar 2: SEO
SEO is both organic and designed.
Example: You can sit down to write a blog about whatever you want and optimize that for the topic and get organic reach, amazing.
Designing it would be stepping back and saying ok, what are the keywords my audience is searching for then writing an SEO-optimized article based on those keywords.
Not sure? Try Google’s keyword planner (in your Google Ads account)
Pillar 3: Promotion
How are you promoting your content, products/services?
What is promotion?
Yes paid advertising.
AND
Also:
Organic
Partnerships
Affiliates
Influencers
Wait, what is organic promotion?
Social posts
Note - you can’t always be promoting despite what GlengarryGlaenn Ross will tell you
You can promote in:
Newsletters
Podcasts
Email sequences
Website
Blog posts
Pillar 4: Results
Why do something if you can’t determine whether or not it’s worth doing?
Results and how you measure success should be tied to your goals.
Some things to consider:
What’s the ROI on your time and money?
Social content: hint each platform gives this to you on business accounts.
Other content reach: podcast listeners, bog reads, video views, etc.
Emails: open rates, click-through rates, purchases from emails.
Use data to determine what you should change and what adjustments you need to make.
Thank you for taking the time to listen, watch, and be here! I appreciate you!

What we talked about on this episode:
Last part in our where to start series. Authenticity. This is HUGE.
We have to be authentic.
Be you.
Be who you are, all the time.
Authenticity is about being genuine.
Be yourself.
Be transparent.
Be real.
We live in a world surrounded by BS
Social The media Companies DatingSo you might be thinking Steph why is this part of the marketing strategy?
Shouldn’t we do this all the time?
YES
AND
Most don’t.
How many times have we seen people, brands, companies, ‘canceled’ or called out then they do their bullshit ‘apology’ and people watching aren’t having it.
Look at Starbucks.
Billions in losses.
When we see people, brands, and companies trying to backpedal, I think society, in general, is like nope you said what you said, you said it with your whole chest and didn’t stutter.
This brings us back to authenticity is arguably more important now than it’s ever been.
Authenticity and for funsies let’s add accountability.
Fuck up? Own your shit and fix it.
But Steph: how do I be authentic with my customers?
Talk to them like they’re your friends.
But Steph
What if that deters them away?
GOOD. Attract the right people who love you for being you and deter the ones who you feel like you need to be a different version of yourself around.
Thank you for taking the time to listen, watch, and be here! I appreciate you!

What we talked about on this episode:
An important part of building out your strategy is alignment.
Start with your goals.
From goals, what’s your expertise?
Your skillset.
Your knowledge.
From there, what products or services can you create or offer with that expertise?
Common digital products:
eBooks Downloads/PDFs How to’s Checkilsts/planners/calendars Online courses Workbooks Videos and downloads (bundles of as well) Templates Printables Music/MP3 Audio downloads GuidesWhat compliments your products and/or services?
More straightforward example
Construction = build shit
AND
Probably could still create digital downloads to add passive income.
Maybe that’s a guide, or a checklist, or a project management download, top tools and how to use them, DIY video bundle
BUT
That’s not where we stop
Think back to the last episode on the podcast: whats the conversation?
Whats the journey?
Make sure those products and services align to what your audience needs.
Once you know what your customers need (to solve a challenge or alleviate a pain point)
Design/create a product the product
Get feedback
Create an integrated marketing plan
Design and create your content to lead into that paid product
It makes no sense to create content about pens when you have a pet store business that only sells pet food.
Align the customer conversation to their needs.
Align their needs to your content to continue that conversation.
Align your content to your paid product that offers a more in dept solution.
Thank you for taking the time to listen, watch, and be here! I appreciate you!

What we talked about on this episode:
When you think about your idea customer, client, trainee, member, etc. who is that person?
Again, IDEALLY
Specifically
One person Their name Age Gender How much money do they make Education level Interests Passions What do they give a shit about What do they have zero fucks to give aboutSo when you think about your ideal customer, who is that person AND …
What does that person need to know?
Think about it this way:
We are building a conversational journey.
We are starting a conversation.
The first step of that conversational journey, what do they need to know?
To elaborate, your perfect customer has struggles, concerns, apprehensions, pain points, fears, objections, roadblocks, etc.

You’re awesome!! Go be your amazing self today!!!
Notes:
What experience are you hoping to create?
Social Website Email Customer service Service or product execution Content ConversationsThink about the products and services you offer. How can you design a fantastic experience for them?
Be very intentional about the experience people are having while using your products or services.
So it's about experience.
What experience do you want to offer?
THEN you build it.
Don't go build a website just to THEN think about the experience you want to offer to your customers and audience just to have to redo it.

Notes:
Why are we here?
If you're new to me, my goal for years is to share with others what I've learned. In short, that's why we are here.
I have another podcast, Career Talk: Learn - Grow - Thrive that I started back in 2016.
My goal is to really help the small to medium size business owners.
These are the folks, as you know, that do not have time for marketing but they know they probably need some sort of marketing and they probably don't even know where to start.
My goal is to give you bite-size, actionable tips you can implement, or find someone to help you implement, to kick start your marketing efforts to ultimately grow that small business of yours.
I'm very passionate about small to medium-sized businesses, it's important to me to help these businesses learn, grow, and thrive.
That's why we are here.
A bit about me.
I'm sarcastic. I swear, A LOT I have a little dog I sold my house and started traveling in an RV a few years back. I'm currently on the hunt for a new truck since mine was stolen. So not so much on the travel piece for a while. I'm not perfect. I love to help others and am passionate about sharing information that is action-oriented. I'm not the one who will motivate you. I'm the one who will guide the ones who are motivated to get shit done with specific steps and thought-provoking questions to help move the needle in your business. I'm also newer to video podcasting, for many many years my other podcast was just audio. Bear with me!That's me. If that sounds interesting to you, I hope to see you in future episodes.
