Episodes

  • It's Monday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast is back, edited, and ready to help you start your week. This week, the guys looked back at NFL Sunday, ahead at the Grey Cup, and wondered how

The boys kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with a conversation about this past weekend in the NFL after Baggedmilk rolled into the studio wearing a new Vikings jersey and hat. Despite the chirps about the outfit, BM was looking fresh, and no one could handle the sizzle. Talking about the Vikings led the guys to talk about some of the best sports line nicknames that they can remember from over the years.

Changing gears, the guys talked about the Young Stars Tournament that happened in Penticton this past weekend and how the Oilers' rookies have struggled immensely against the Canucks and Flames. If you haven't been paying attention, Edmonton has fared poorly against its peers at the tournament, and some people are concerned about the future of the depth chart.

Sticking with the Oilers, the guys spent some time on what they think the concession prices will be when the new NHL season starts. If beers were $16.50 during the playoffs, is it reasonable to expect the price to go up to $18 or more? As a result, Baggedmilk asked folks to send us a note about what everyone thinks is the most egregious price increase on concession items.

Finally, the boys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics that were all over the map. From betting on the Elks to win the Grey Cup to Commonwealth Stadium upgrades to whether or not the podcast should pivot to being a CFL show, the final segment from the Monday epi

  • It's Thursday afternoon, meaning a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast is back, edited, and ready to massage your earholes.

The guys started the podcast with a quick recap of the Monday episode of Real Life now that the gang was all back together. Seeing as Baggedmilk, Tyler, and Jay missed the last podcast, Wanye and Chalmers walked through what the boys missed since the boys were able to bring in their childhood friend as a pinch hitter.

From there, Tyler was finally able to reveal to Jay and Chalmers that his team cheated at the Oilersnation Open and that the two playoff holes were completely unnecessary. Now that the boys know about Tyler's house of lies, the question becomes whether or not he should have to do both punishments. Being the good sport he is, Yaremchuk humbly accepts whatever is to come.

Changing gears, Chalmers talked about how this is the best time of year for sports now that the NFL is back and baseball is heading into its playoff stretch, and how it doesn't get better than having everything happen all at once. Sticking with football, Chalmers went on a rant about how the NFL should be more transparent with player injuries, given how much betting money is put down around games these days.

Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with a collection of topics that were all over the map. From Baggedmilk revealing his NFL allegiance to what's happening with Deshaun Watson's standing with the Cleveland Browns to why you need to join the fellas on the Nation Vacation to Denver, the last 15 minutes of Thursday's show were pure chaos. Are you surprised? Of course not.

  • For this episode Wanye and Chalmers brought on childhood friend Mike Fugleberg and reminisced about growing up together and all the wild parties that Mike would throw at his house.

Chalmers had his chance to talk about the Oilersnation Open, giving his perspective on the tournament. He also gave a shoutout to Erik Sabrowski and how he was making his MLB debut at the same time as the Nation Real Life Fantasy Football Draft.

To cap it off they discussed about the NFL returning and Tyreek Hill's arrest.

  • It's Thursday afternoon, meaning a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast is back, edited, and ready to massage your earholes.

The guys started the podcast with a tribute to Johnny Gaudreau. The hockey world lost one of its brightest stars last week, and the story is so heartbreaking in every possible way. Even though it's impossible to make sense of this loss, it's been wonderful to read the tributes to the Gaudreau brothers and learn a little more about how incredible they were as human beings.

Changing gears, the guys walked through the Leon Draisaitl extension that came down on Tuesday. Not only did the Oilers find a way to lock in one of their biggest stars to a max-term deal, but the fact that he was so happy to stay in Edmonton is a detail that makes this extension so much more special. Needless to say, the Oilers organization has come a long way from the days of losing their stars because the team couldn't afford to pay them.

Next up, the guys walked through some of the best stories from Friday's Oilersnation Open, including Tyler's cheating story and how it's a secret that everyone kept under wraps until today. As you'll hear, the tournament was ripe with shenanigans, and it's going to be fantastically funny when two of the podcast hosts find out what actually happened.

Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with a collection of topics that were all over the map. From the Chase money glitch to Wanye trying to buy a Nail Yakupov jersey to Cody Ceci's sad interview on the What Chaos podcast, the last 15 minutes of Thursday's show were pure chaos. Are you surprised? Of course not.

The guys started the podcast with a conversation about Friday's Oilersnation Open and how the boys are all incredibly excited to get the tournament underway. If you've never been to the ONO before, it's easily one of the company's most cherished days of the year, and the guys cannot wait to see everyone and spend a great day out on the links at the Millwoods Golf Club.

Changing gears, Tyler wanted to talk about his wings experience from last night and how he did not get a deal despite it being Wing Wednesday. Despite in-store advertisements saying the wings would be discounted, Tyler paid full price and has been rattled about it ever since.

Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, the guys talked about the team putting the ice back at Rogers Place and how that means we're only weeks away from the boys being back in town. One thing the fellas noticed is that the Oilers are putting down their classic logo at centre ice while other teams decided to change things up a little bit.

After literally three minutes of Oilers talk, the guys worked through a random collection of topics, ranging from Tyler's drinking problems to his new fence to squirrel problems to why we're still paying for bags in Edmonton. Needless to say, it is basically impossible for this podcast to stay on track without being instantly distracted like goldfish.

  • It's Monday afternoon, meaning a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast is back, edited, and ready to massage your earholes.

The guys started the podcast with a conversation about pop after Tyler walked into the studio with a Kicking Back Cola. That led the guys to talk about whether or not they subscribe to the idea that off-brand colas are comparable to the originals. Thankfully, Inspector Chalmers was on the case and found research to confirm some of the myths about Kirkland brand items being the same as major competitors.

Talking about white labelling products led Chalmers to want to discuss Jeff Bezos's potential purchase of the Boston Celtics for upward of $6 billion. Considering the wealth Jeff Bezos can amass, the guys wondered what the team's future might look like and how he would plan to integrate their game-day experience into the Amazon orbit. Sticking with stadium talk, Chalmers talked about seeing Metallica on Friday night at Commonwealth and how that stadium is NOT equipped to handle the number of people it can hold.

Changing gears, the conversation moved to the Oilersnation Open and how the bidding on the auction to golf with the boys really got out of hand. Not only did the auction total go well beyond what anyone expected, but thanks to some quick thinking from Tyler, both bid finalists will be golfing because everyone felt bad if someone missed out. Needless to say, Friday's tournament will be an incredible day and the boys are very excited to hit the links.

  • There's no way your Thursday wouldn't be complete without a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to wrap up your week, would it? Of course not. Thankfully, the gang was back with a fresh episode of Real Life that was all over the map and covered a wide range of topics.

The guys started the podcast with a random collection of topics, including Chalmers' party habits, leaving drinks around Nation HQ, and always having to be the last one to bed regardless of the social scenario. Talking about Chalmers led Jay to discuss their guys' golf trip and how it takes a minute to get the body warmed up as you get older.

Changing gears, the guys walked Baggedmilk through some of the topics he missed during his vacation and got his take on everything from the offer sheets to the trades made in the days leading up to the decision. As much as it was annoying to have the Oilers put in a tough spot like they were, the fellas thought the Oilers actually did a reasonable job of navigating the issue.

Finally, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with a collection of topics that ranged from Tyler's new fence to dog sitting and how grandparents are the key to unlocking advancements in one's life. Despite Tyler having some prep done for today's podcast, the least surprising news of the day was that the show got derailed by a random collection of topics to wrap up the episode.

  • Happy Monday Nation Citizens. To kick off a fresh week, the Real Life crew (sans Baggedmilk) is back with another fresh episode of the podcast. To begin things today, the guys talked about their weekends, which featured a golf trip for a few of them. There was a little bit of controversy between Jay and Chalmers as one of the two is accusing the other of tanking his handicap to give himself an advantage on their trip. Tyler sparked up a conversation about the worst kinds of people to get paired up with on a golf course.

They eventually would get into some hockey talk as Patrik Laine was traded during the show. They gave their guesses on what the full trade would look like and were all proven hilariously wrong by the end of the pod. Finally, they got into some talk about the Oilers busy weekend, which saw GM Stan Bowman make not one, but two trades. What do those two deals mean for the futures of Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg? The guys discussed that and debated what the right thing for the Oilers to do is.

To end things off, they talked a little bit about the last week in the Big Brother house and the first few weeks of the NFL preseason.

  • It was a skeleton crew today for the Real Life Podcast as a bunch of the guys were away on vacation. The two in attendance: Yaremchuk and Wanye. They were joined by social media star Matt Wozniak and the trio took on a handful of different stories.

To start, they talked about the news that the Edmonton Elks have an owner. They've been community owned for the last 75 years and now with a solo owner in charge, could things be changing for the local football team? They talked about the ideas of a new stadium and more.

They then got into some wild sports stories as Tyler asked the guys what are some sports tell-alls that they would like to see made into a movie. He shared a wild story about a former first overall pick that went to jail before making his debut in Major League Baseball. They also kicked around some Oilers ideas.

To wrap up the pod, they talked about the offer sheet drama surrounding the Edmonton Oilers and kicked around some other Oilers related hypotheticals.

  • The guys are back with a Monday episode of The Real Life Podcast as Tyler, Jay, Wanye and special guest Liam sat down for an hour to talk about their lives and of course, a little bit of Oilers hockey.

To kick things off, the guys talked about the wild weekend that went down in YEG. The Edmonton Riverhawks won their first ever playoff game and while Wanye was excited for the team, he took issue with their 20-minute post-game firework show. The Edmonton Elks won a second consecutive football game, which is wildly impressive considering their recent track record. Liam was in attendance and told us what they're doing differently to up the general atmosphere of Elks games. And of course, it was Folk Fest weekend. Tyler and Liam really didn't understand the lore behind the festival, but Jay and Wanye got them up to speed and Jay talked about why it's his favourite event that happens in the city.

To end the show, they talked about the news that Evander Kane could be going on LTIR to start the season. Tyler tried to explain the different ways that the Oilers could utilize his cap space and what else the Oilers need to do in order to be cap compliant. Jay was just happy that the team is finally abusing the system.

  • There's no way your Thursday wouldn't be complete without a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to wrap up your week, would it? Of course not. Thankfully, the gang was back with a fresh episode of Real Life that was all over the map and covered a wide range of topics.

The guys kicked off the podcast with a random question about how many Teen Burgers they could eat in support of Burgers for MS Day on August 22nd for our friends at A&W. As you'll hear, the boys believe they can put back a pile of burgers in the name of charity, even though the lofty estimates seem ridiculous at first blush.

Changing gears, Wanye wanted to talk about a new YouTube channel he found with an Aussie guy who has built a homestead for himself using nothing but primitive tools. That led to discussions about influencers of all types getting famous for the most random content you could ever imagine. Whether that content is any good is a different matter entirely.

From there, Wanye wanted to discuss the advances in Neuralink technology and how it won't be long before people can get rid of phones and live online within the confines of their own minds. If the tech advances enough, would having a chip in their brain be of any interest to the boys on the show if given the chance?

Finally, the boys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with a recap of the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, which is why Steven Ellis is in town. Despite forcing Steven to sit through an hour of shenanigans, hearing his take on the state of hockey was a fun dive into the mind of The Nation Network's prospect analyst.

  • There's no way your Thursday wouldn't be complete without a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to wrap up your week, would it? Of course not. Thankfully, the gang was back with a fresh episode of Real Life.

The guys kicked off the podcast with a random collection of sports, including the recent passing of Jellybean Bryant and Wanye's question about why he was unaware that Jellybean played in the NBA. After a quick Googling on the topic, it turns out that the answer is a lot sadder than anyone expected.

Sticking with sports, Tyler wanted to know what events are missing from the summer Olympics and whether the boys could improve the games with some new events. As expected, every potential event the fellas recommended was completely ridiculous and 1000% not likely to happen.

Changing gears, Tyler read a bunch of Gen-Z words that were added to the dictionary, and the boys had to guess what all of these words meant. As expected, fellas in their late 30s and early 40s were completely lost on basically everything, making everyone in the studio feel incredibly old once again.

Looking around the local sports scene, the discussion turned to how the Riverhawks and Stingers have found a way to inspire Edmontonians while the Elks still struggle to get people through the door. Outside of the team obviously being awful, there has to be a way to get the city more engaged with a team that used to be hugely popular for decades.

  • It wouldn't be Monday without a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to wrap up the day and walk through everything that's happened over the weekend, would it? No. That's the answer.

The guys got this week's podcast started by critiquing Tyler's lunch after he shovelled a microwaveable pasta down the hatch as the intro was playing. Tyler has never been shy to enjoy plastic-adjacent meals, but today's Buffalo Chicken Mac N Cheese was especially colourful and fun to watch him eat.

Changing gears, Baggedmilk recapped the Ludacris show from last night at K-Days and how it was a fantastic show for anyone old enough to remember his hey day. To put it lightly, Ludacris understood the assignment and played nothing but bangers for nearly two hours, which is exactly what the crowd was looking for in that show.

Next up on the topic board was the Summer Olympics and how the boys aren't as dialled into the games as they thought they might be. That led the guys to talk about the Canadian soccer scandal and how it's so embarrassing for the women's team that is more than good enough to compete in the tournament without having to cheat.

Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday podcast with some wedding talk after Tyler let the boys know that they basically have the bulk of their details locked in already. What he didn't seem to think about, however, is that his August long weekends will all be dedicated to anniversary-related activities from now until forever.

  • There's no way your Thursday wouldn't be complete without a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to wrap up your week, would it? Of course not. Thankfully, the skeleton crew boys were around to give you a dose of randomness.

The first thing you'll notice about the Thursday episode of Real Life is that most of the hosts didn't show up for the recording, which left Baggedmilk and Wanye to their own devices. As a result, the start of the podcast was a mix of random topics and discussions that would never have happened had Tyler been around to keep the show on the rails.

Turning the conversation to the Oilers, the guys spent a little bit of time talking about Stan Bowman being hired as the team's new general manager and how the reaction to the news was as united as it was. Needless to say, the decision to bring in Bowman, given the baggage he brings with him, was certainly a bold decision by the organization.

From there, Wanye wanted to talk about the royal wedding this weekend and how he cannot contain his excitement for Connor McDavid and Lauren Kyle to finally get hitched. From the outfits to the guest list to wondering if McDavid will have any fun, it's clear that Wanye has spent a lot of time thinking about this wedding.

Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with another collection of topics that made little to no sense, but that's what happens without any adult supervision. Needless to say, if you've been a fan of Real Life for a long time, Thursday's podcast felt very much like a throwback episode to when the boys used to record at the old 1260 studios on the west end.

  • It wouldn't be Monday without a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to wrap up the day and walk through everything that's happened over the weekend, would it? No. That's the answer.

The guys got this week's podcast started with a discussion about video games. Chalmers' sons love playing vids, which led the boys to talk about teen slang and how nothing makes you feel older than not understanding what kids are saying. Chalmers then described how his kids aren't allowed to use social media, and it was interesting to hear the "why" they're not allowed. The logic made sense even though it's not a popular decision at the moment.

Changing gears, Chalmers told a story about his bike getting stolen and how there's nothing anyone can do to get it back even though he has footage of the thief walking out of his garage. What's amazing about the heist was that his garage was only left unattended for 20 minutes, which was apparently plenty of time for Edmonton Danny Ocean to grab the bicycle and get away unchecked.

Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with some betting talk that looked ahead at the summer Olympics and the NFL season. Talking about football led Baggedmilk to seek some help from the audience to pick a team to cheer for that fits within his criteria of having cool uniforms, a fun stadium, the potential to be good, etc. Needless to say, this is a big decision to make with the NFL season coming up around the corner, and now the pressure is on to make a solid pick.

  • Your Thursday wouldn't be complete without a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to wrap up your week, would it? Of course not. This week, the fellas covered Chalmers' approach to eating eggs, VLT strategies, and the MLB home run derby.

The guys started the podcast by discussing how Chalmers eats eggs and how they have to be made in very specific ways. But just as the guys started talking about breakfast, the conversation very quickly chanced to VLT strategies and how it literally makes no sense to think you're able to game the system. Needless to say, the intro to the show was all over the map.

Changing gears, the guys talked about the horrible rendition of the national anthem that came out ahead of the MLB home run derby. If you haven't seen it, that anthem performance was unbelievable. Obviously, everyone found out about the singer's issues in the days that followed, but at the moment, those few minutes were unbelievable to witness. That led the guys to wonder what the most memorable anthem performances the fellas could remember were.

Next, the guys talked about Bronny James' jersey sales numbers that came out this past week and how he's already paid for his guaranteed contract over the next four years. Even though plenty of folks don't think he deserves the kind of money the Lakers paid him, there's little doubt that basketball fans are intrigued by what Lebron's son will be able to do, and they're also willing to put their money down.

Finally, the guys spent some time talking about the Oilersnation Open. Not only is the tournament one of the best events The Nation Network puts on every year, but it's also an opportunity to have a blast with your favourite internet friends while also raising money for charity. From

there, the guys wrapped up with a random collection of topics, including first cars, water coolers, and when is the best time to water your plants.

  • Your Monday wouldn't be complete without a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast, would it? Of course not. This week, the fellas covered a busy weekend of sports, the Xavier Bourgault trade, and a whole lot of other random topics.

The guys kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with a quick chat about the Xavier Bourgault trade that happened this morning. Even though it was a minor trade in the grand scheme of things, it's still fascinating to see how Oilers fans are thrilled by the move. The question became whether the trade was that good or is it that Jeff Jackson just can't miss right now?

Changing gears, the guys looked at what had been a very busy weekend in sports. From the COPA America Final to the Euro Final to Wanye taking his little man to Monster Jam for the first time, it was a busy handful of days in sports. When it came to Monster Jam, even though his little man was incredibly excited about the monster trucks, the experience was not the same for an adult.

From there, the boys looked ahead at the MLB All-Star break and how no one cares about baseball's big weekend. Even though Tyler is a big baseball guy, he doesn't care at all about the all-star festivities. Finally, the podcast really devolved over the last 15 minutes as the guys ran through an array of topics that may or may not have always made sense. Then again, if you're listening to Real Life, that's kind of what's expected at this point, right?

  • You're one day closer to the weekend, and the boys from the Real Life podcast want to help you get there with a fresh episode of the show to close out the week.

The gang started the Thursday episode of Real Life by discussing Connor McDavid and Lauren Kyle's wedding and how no one except Wanye is excited about it. Despite trying to get the boys excited about the Oilers' royal wedding, no one was buying what he was selling. Put another way, if the wedding was on TV, not one person said they would be willing to watch it.

Changing gears, Chalmers went on a classic rant about people getting famous for absolutely no reason after the Hawk Tuah girl started to get upwards of $30,000 for an appearance. What does she do for such a massive fee? It's a fair question. That led the guys to wonder what the future will be for her once the 15 minutes of fame winds down. How long will it be until she has a podcast? How long will people even be willing to pay for appearances?

With Edmonton being as hot as it is this week, the guys talked about how they're handling the heat. From ordering air conditioners to upping the Slurpee consumption, dealing with the heat hasn't necessarily been easy but it is certainly preferable to what happens in the winter. Yet, on Better Lait Than Never, the informal poll Baggedmilk took was very much split down the weather about preferring the heat or the cold.

Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with a random collection of topics, including Winston Churchill's daily drinking habits, John Daly's consumption during a round of golf, diving in soccer, and how many joints Snoop Dogg smokes in a day. Needless to say, the last 15 minutes of the show bopped around all over the place. If you love randomness, the end of the Thursday episode of Real Life is absolutely for you.

  • Your Monday wouldn't be complete without a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast, would it? Of course not. This week, the fellas covered summer activities in Edmonton, expanding the Savannah Bananas, and whatever other random topics popped into mind as the recording wore on.

The guys kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with a discussion about summer living in Edmonton and how it's time to get into other activities now that the Oilers are done. Talking about summer activities led Baggedmilk to talk about his love for the Edmonton Stingers after attending his first game of the season last night. Talking about the Stingers' success had the guys wondering if other leagues would benefit from adding zany activations as part of their game day festivities.

From there, the boys had a tough time keeping the podcast on the rails. As much as they tried to talk about single topics, they couldn't stick to any one thing for more than a few seconds. Tyler started talking about going to a movie with his niece, which somehow kicked off a conversation about the boys buying ice cream machines and trying military rations. Would it make sense to eat MREs for some Real-Life summer content? Yes.

Finally, steering the podcast back to the Oilers, the fellas talked about the team's Stanley Cup odds and how it's wild to see them so heavily favoured at this point. If you're into betting, would you put your money down on the Oilers as favourites or should you wait a little bit for the excitement to die down? The guys also talked how the Oilers can get cap compliant given that they're currently $354K over the salary cap with Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway left to sign.

  • It's a special free agency edition of the Real Life Podcast, and that meant the boys had to get back on the grind and talk about what happened so far on the first day in free agency.

Kicking off the podcast, the guys got started with some of the news and stories they didn't have a chance to get to since the last time everyone was in the same room together. From what they did after Game 7 in Florida to Tyler's hotel room having sewage backing up into the sink, there was a lot to get caught up on after the guys hadn't really done a show together in a while.

Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, the boys started by looking back at Ken Holland's tenure as the team's GM and whether it was a successful five-year run by him. As you'll hear, the guys aren't willing to give Holland as much credit as others. Despite the fact that the Oilers just made it to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, no one was saying it was a mission accomplished for Uncle Ken.

The discussion then turned to what the Oilers did on the first day of free agency: They locked in Viktor Arvidsson to a two-year deal, Corey Perry to a one-year deal, Josh Brown to a three-year deal, and Connor Carrick to a one-year deal. While it was certainly an eventful day, that doesn't mean everyone was totally on board with what happened. Of the moves the Oilers made, it seems like only Arvidsson gets a passing grade from the squad, but it's noteworthy that everyone agrees they're probably not done.

Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of the Real Life podcast with a few stories from Tyler about what it was like to cover the draft in Las Vegas at the Sphere. According to Tyler, it was beautiful to look at the Sphere, but it was one of those things that would have been better experienced in a different setting than trying to do work while the walls were moving. Needless to say, it was a long stretch on the road for old man Yaremchuk.
