I first heard Australiaâs Gang of Youths in 2022 when they released their third full-length album angel in realtime., but for whatever reason, their music didnât stick with me. While doing research for a future bonus audio, I rediscovered the band and decided to give their discography a whirl. This is my first impression.

Hailing from Philadelphia, PA, The Loved Ones formed in 2003 when former members of The Curse (Dave Hause), Kid Dynamite (Michael Cotterman), and Trial by Fire (Mike Sneeringer) got together. In less than a decade, the band produced two full-length albums, two EPs, and one split before calling it a day. While they periodically reunite for a show here and there, the band formed, released a handful of excellent records, and then exited stage right all in about seven years.

I have vivid memories of seeing the River City Rebels albums Racism, Religion And War and Playin' To Live, Livin' To Play in stores in the early 2000s (and I'm pretty sure I owned a copy of Playin' To Live, Livin' To Play at one time or another). Both albums have distinctive covers that leave an impression. Fast forward to 2024 and I got a message from a friend on Instagram suggesting I cover River City Rebels. He also admitted to being the band's roadie/merch guy, so I did what anyone with an ounce of journalism training would do (I have an AA in Broadcast Journalism btw) and I asked if he could hook me up with an interview/guest for the podcast.
Dan "Bopper" O'Day started River City Rebels in 1997 in Burlington, VT. During their initial run, the band released seven full-length albums and toured all over the world. After calling it a day in 2010, Bopper reformed the band and released their first new music in 13 with 2013's single "Humble Me" and the 2024 EP Pop Culture Baby.

Hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, Japandroids is a two-man rock 'n' roll machine consisting of Brian King on guitar and vocals and David Prowse on drums and vocals. Since forming in 2006. the band has released three full-length albums (with a fourth to be released in October 2024), two EPs, one compilation, 10 singles, and two music videos. This guitar and drums duo has mixed elements of garage, classic, indie, and punk rock creating a sound that is simple, energetic, hook-filled, and exceptionally fun.

Originally, One Band, 5 Songs was only available on Spotify and thus limited to playing songs that were available on the service. Now that the show is not limited to what we can play, I thought it would be fun to look back at five old episodes and play songs we couldnât play before.
