Interview Highlights
Key Takeaways:
1 – Listen, Learn, Apply, Pivot: Learn as much as you can, Apply it to your purpose, and Pivot always. Once you have done so, do not allow anyone to tell your story. Nurture your own narrative so that the Authentic you shine through!
2 – Let go of toxic People, Places, and Things. Toxicity = Liability. – Your future self relies on Self-Care; the Intentionally of your circle (family, group of friends, co-workers) should be relevant to who you are becoming in your next.
3 – Break the concrete ceiling – Sometimes taking a step back is your next step forward. Be grateful for the process because you never know how God is using you and your troubles to comfort others. God is revealing your Next – stop listen to learn what He is revealing to you. He has already given you the weapon to do so!

In Honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month- Two Courageous Women share their Stories of Bravery. Interview Take-Aways Carol-Ann Marshall 1. Don’t blame yourself. We all fail, and the most important thing is that we get up every time we get knocked down. Getting out of any type of abusive relationship is not an easy journey but perseverance and envisioning a life beyond the abuse will make it worthwhile. 2. Trust your intuition to guide you in every decision you have to make. Your intuition will never steer you wrong and remember that God is holding your hand as you make the decisions. Put your trust in him. 3. Set clear boundaries and be certain in yourself that they will not be crossed no matter how much other people try to convince you to let them down, even a little. Stop being a people pleaser, believe in yourself and do not get caught up trying to live up to other peoples' expectations. Lori Vallot-Baskin 1. Controlling and Gaslighting are real, you are not crazy. Women of all races experience domestic violence, but African American women are victims at much higher rate than are women of other races. 2. If he hits you once, he’ll do it again. It’s not a matter of if but a matter of when. So ask yourself is what I’m experiencing really love and is it worth my life? 3. Every 9 seconds a woman is beating in the United States. All too often we hear in our homes and circles what goes on in this house stays on this house. You have to save you. Will you let the cycle stop with you? Carol-Ann Marshall email:[email protected] HAPPILY EVER AFTER! I reached out to my oldest sister and told her I needed advice. She asked me "do I need to ride?" She was in Texas and i in Louisiana at the time. I told her I was okay. She told me to pray for deliverance. I did, but God has a way of doing things how He chooses, and my deliverance was not what I expected, but it was worth it. He blessed me with my own personal Mr. Incredible and a beautiful family that loves me with real love. Lori Vallot-Baskin On Fire to Inspire Motivate. Educate. Interview Takeaways:
Put God First and Keep Him First!
1. Be Your Own Advocate – Stay on top of your doctors and treatments. Ask questions in order to understand your options. I actually had to disagree with a doctor who was reading the films from my mammography and he said he thought he saw something suspicious in my other breast, and I told him no he didn’t. I know he thought I was crazy for challenging his opinion, but it was necessary. I shared with him that when I looked at my name on the film, it was backwards, which told me we were looking at the film backwards; meaning instead of seeing something in my left breast, we were looking at the scar tissue in the right breast where I originally had surgery. He turned red, and I left.
2. Do It Afraid – Early Detection is Key: Perform monthly breast self-exams, get an annual mammogram, and if you feel a lump don’t wait, have it checked out right away as early detection can be the key to saving a life.
3. Release the Stress – Take the necessary time for your own self-care. Learn to put yourself first and address your mental and physical wellness. Have wellness checks for you. Get a massage, go for long walks, exercise, watch a funny movie, enjoy time with your family and friends, etc. Slow down and find what it is that you enjoy doing and do it.
