Episodes

  • My guest today is Ellie Norman, the Marketing and Communications Director at Formula 1. She is in fact the very first Marketing and Communications Director at Formula 1, before her appointment in 2017, that function didn’t exist.

Prior to working in Motorsport, my guest held high-ranking positions in Marketing and Communications for huge brands such as Virgin Media and Honda, she is a Fellow at the Marketing Academy and was Head Girl at her school.

She is somebody who I believe is a true agent of change within the sport. She brings positivity, reason, expertise and calm to an industry known for its relentless fast-pace, and, in my humble opinion, the access to Formula 1 you - dear listeners - get to enjoy today is largely thanks to her work and that of her team.

  • My guest today has built an impressive career as a journalist and a presenter across so many sports, that asking her to come on this podcast focusing solely on motorsport feels like a disservice. She started early, becoming a journalist at just 15, and hasn’t stopped since, with her vast experience spanning news, horse riding, Formula 1 of course, but also rugby, tennis, the Olympics, the Paralympics and much much more. My guest today is the amazing Lee McKenzie.

  • My guest today is Lou Johnson, an award-winning photographer - having being named Motorsport UK’s Young Photographer of the Year in 2019 - and is the Team Photographer for Mahindra Racing in Formula E. With experience in the World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series alongside her Formula E work, as well as corporate and event work, she has gathered a huge amount of experience since graduating from university in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Photography.

My guest and I have never met before, though thanks to Instagram, shared friends and her incredibly welcoming personality, I can firmly say that she feels like a friend already!

  • We are back for a second season!

I have an amazing guest this week to celebrate the return of Racing Lives, the incredible Claire Williams. Claire was Deputy Team Principal of Williams Racing, the Formula 1 Team founded by her father Frank Williams, until last September 2020 and has had an amazing career in the sport covering PR, Marketing and Commercial before taking on the running of the team. To me, she embodies what working in F1 means: passion, a tremendous work ethic, a legendary fighting spirit and a huge heart. In this episode, we discuss Claire's earliest memories of motorsport, what it's really like to run a Formula 1 Team, the highs, the lows and everything in between.

  • My guest today is a champion. Figuratively, of course, but importantly, she is a champion in the literal sense of the word too. She is the 2015 British GT Champion for GT4, the MRF Challenge Champion for the 2018-2019 season and became the inaugural W Series Champion in 2019.

She is also breaking new grounds: the youngest ever British GT Champion at the time, as well as the first female to win it. She is the first woman to win a British F3 race, that victory came at Brands Hatch in 2018. And the first woman to win the MRF Challenge too.

To top it all off, she is part of the Williams F1 Academy and is the team’s Development Driver, and has begun earning points for the all important FIA Super License through her successful participation in the F3 Asian Championship.

I haven’t actually listed all her accomplishments here as it would likely make this introduction longer than our actual chat. Suffice to say that this week’s guest is very very good at what they do.

My guest today is seriously amazing Jamie Chadwick.

  • This week, Racing Lives is seriously proud to welcome PR legend Ann Bradshaw! Ann held the role of Team Press Officer for Williams F1 for 12 years, during which they secured no less than 6 constructors’ championships, and has been asked back no less than 4 times over the years (!!), she has worked in Communication roles for A1GP, BMW Motorsport, Sauber F1, many F1 circuits around the world, racing drivers including the touring car champion Andy Priaulx, and more recently joined W-Series when it launched.

She has mentored countless aspiring motorsport PRs, including myself over the years, and is one of the most knowledgeable, supportive and perhaps most importantly, FUN person I’ve had the pleasure to work alongside. Can you tell I’m a huge fan yet?

  • My guest today is the utterly brilliant Louise Goodman, who is known in every motorsport paddock there is, having worked in Formula 1, Touring Cars, Endurance racing and rallying throughout her incredible career.

Louise counts roles such as TV presenter, pit-lane reporter, media trainer, event host, racing driver, and team PR as part of a her extensive experience. She is as approachable and funny as she is professional and efficient, with a reputation for a calm and capable approach which always guarantees a good work day when collaborating with her.

  • This week's episode welcomes the wonderfully brilliant Amy Shore. Amy has a photo collection featuring some of the most iconic cars ever made. What’s most special about this photo collection however, is that she took every single one. She is indeed a photographer, and a bloody good one at that.

She has carved a career from showcasing beautiful machinery, while passionately finding brilliant stories about their owners or drivers. She is able to capture the essence of both human and object, and it comes across in every single one of her photographs.

She is someone whose work I have admired for a very long time and we finally got the chance to collaborate at the end of last year after months of talking about it. We had a great time, thankfully so did our models (!), and the work produced was simply beautiful. You can find it everywhere on Instagram if you look up the team I work for.

  • My guest today is the rather awesome Rebecca Jones. Bex has worked with some of the best-known automotive brands in her highly successful motorsport career, counting the likes of Skoda, Aston Martin, BMW and more recently Bentley as part of her client roster.

She’s represented brands and drivers in Formula 1, the World Rally Championship, the World Endurance Championship and many many other series. She founded her very own PR agency in 2011, VIPR Media, adding various businesses since then including my personal favourite Christmas Tree order & delivery service with her husband Tom Onslow-Cole.

She has most definitely been blessed with the entrepreneurial and hard-working genes, and is not letting them go to waste. She is one of my favourite person to follow on social media as I never know what she’s going to do next!

  • My guest today is the uber-talented Amy Overy, a hugely experienced producer working for Formula One itself. She is a brilliant interviewer, trusted by F1 drivers and team PRs alike, she is a relaxed professional that gets the job done with a smile. And it’s hugely appreciated throughout the paddock.

She is also an incredibly knowledgeable food enthusiast, using the little spare time we have around races to research cuisines from around the world and share her findings in the brilliant F1 Foodie instagram account.

She is a trusted friend, a positive influence, and one of my favourite people to catch up with, be it 5mins in the middle of paddock, or significantly longer if a glass of wine and plate of good food are involved.

And EXCITING NEWS, since we spoke Amy has launched her website! Have a read at f1foodieandfriends.com.

  • Welcome back to Racing Lives! This week, my guest is a familiar name to most Formula 1 fans: the brilliant Sophie Ogg. Sophie has worked her entire professional life in motorsport, climbing up the racing ladder from Formula BMW UK, via the World Touring Car Championship and A1 GP - with a touch of America’s Cup for good measure - ending up of course in Formula 1 where she now heads up the communications function at Williams Racing and counts almost 10 years with the legendary team.

She has recently become a mum for the first time to Florence, and so has paused her travelling ways momentarily, and is getting to grips with the new challenge of being a working mum in the fast-pace world of motor-racing.

She is one of my longest and closest friend in this industry, having cut our teeth in touring car racing together and climbed through the motorsport ladder at similar times. Our regular weekend catch-ups have become one of our favourite social media moments, which you may have come across; the F1 Grid Selfies!

  • My guest today is Rebecca Banks; a hugely experienced PR and Events expert, with over 20 years in the sport and entertainment industries. She’s a Director at Revolution Communications, where - and I love this description - her and her team have carved a niche in fusing the worlds of motorsport and automotive with lifestyle and entertainment.

Her client list reads like the who’s who of automotive and motorsport royalty, from The Grand Tour to classic car shows, Formula E, Formula 1, and so many more. She also has her hand firmly on the glitter pulse, with connections to England’s best known TV shows, including one of my personal favourites; Strictly Come Dancing.

Before that, she built her extensive experience in PR and Events working with racing drivers, F1 teams, rally teams, huge huge brands such as Vodafone, Hilton, Quicksilver to name but a few, and even a football team.

She is also a prolific features writer, published in more magazines that I can list now, and she is the embodiment behind one of my favourite mottos: Keep Calm and Drink Tea.

  • Hi everyone! My guest this week, Rachel Brookes, is one of the most knowledgeable broadcast journalists in Formula 1, with a career including an inspiring 10-year stint on our screens with Sky Sports, covering news, cricket and of course motorsport. She is an ambassador for Dare To Be Different. She is sharp, passionate and incredibly fair in her interviews, while remaining utterly relatable and approachable despite her high-pressure job. She is fiercely competitive in any quiz, an impressive poker player, and my ‘call a friend’ for any music round.

  • Welcome to the very first episode of Racing Lives! Unsurprisingly for a new show, I've turned to my friends for help with guests and they have all been incredibly supportive. Tabatha Valls Halling is first up, and in this week's episode we chat through how she got started in motorsport, valuable lessons she's learnt along the way, and the advice she still uses to this day.

Tabatha began her motorsport journey in a very public way, as one of Bridgestone’s e-reporters in 2008, and has gone from strength to strength ever since. With stints working with agencies, Formula 1 and Endurances teams, as well as drivers, she’s collected a wealth of experience throughout the sport before cleverly identifying a gap in the market and launching her very own production house, Press Play Productions, specialising in social media content.

In just two years, she has grown her client list and her services to cover a wealth of ideas and content creation, and it’s been a pleasure to watch her succeed.

I have had the rare privilege of witnessing her career blossom every step of the way, from debuting reporter back in 2008 to fully-fledged entrepreneur in 2020.
