Episodes

  • On this episode of Rainbow Rewatch, Daniel and Leliana deconstruct one of the most influential TV shows of the 21st century (and maybe all time), Spongebob Squarepants. Specifically, they cover Season 2 Episode 6 "Squidville" and Season 2 Episode 15 "Band Geeks." After breaking down some fun facts about this ridiculous show, the dolls get into Spongebob's "coming out" in 2020 and the possible sexualities of all of the characters. Then, they discuss the physics of Bikini Bottom and try to figure out how the hell any of it makes sense. And they ask the chilling question: if 80% of our ocean is unexplored, is it possible that Bikini Bottom REALLY exists?

  • This week on Rainbow Rewatch we're doing a super nostalgic movie and one that HAD to be covered, the elite 2006 film She's the Man starring the one, the only, the chameleon herself, Ms. Amanda Bynes. This film has EVERYTHING--women in drag, gay hairdressers, pseudo-lesbianism, Channing Tatum, kissing booths....what an absolute whirlwind. Daniel and Leliana break down the movie's themes and a possible trans reading of the film, and discuss Amanda Bynes' gender dysphoria playing the role of Viola. And they ask the very important question: is this movie actually feminist? or does its portrayal of gender not hold up today?

After discussing their love for the original DVD, Daniel and Leliana break down this incredibly ridiculous film and all of its gay glory. They discuss the musical's surprising cultural resonance, Cher, poppers and the subtle queerification of Harry Bright--aka the gay dad. Get your platform heels on because this is a cooky episode!

  • Get in me swamp because this week is alllll about Shrek 2 (2004). Obviously, this is now a fairy godmother stan podcast. It's only fair. But this week, Daniel and Leliana discuss the queer themes of Shrek 2, the franchise's iconic camp commentary, and the subtle transphobia/homophobia with the Ugly Stepsister. They will also ask a critical question: is Puss and Boots bisexual? Or is he just in love with Prince Charming?

  • It's about to get real nasty on this week's episode of Rainbow Rewatch. Maddi is BACK for a discussion about New Moon (2009) and all things gay about the Twilight fandom. Daniel, Leliana, and Maddi discuss the inherent queerness of the MMF love triangle, the vampire's trip to Italy, and what type of magical creature we would want to be. And then in celebration of the queer fans of the series, Daniel and Leliana read their original Twilight fanfictions (much to Maddi's pleasure). If you are not a Twilight fan, do not fret, because Daniel will burn this podcast to the ground before he reviews another Twilight film.

  • This weeks episode of Rainbow Rewatch is brought to you by self-loathing, because this week we are revisiting Twilight (2008) and New Moon (2009). AND we are joined by a very special guest, one of our dearest friends and a Twilight megafan, Maddi! (we apologize in advance for her straightness, but she was in fact born this way). Buckle in for some wild discussions about virginal vampires and Mormonism, Edward's toxic masculinity, and the films' obsession with heteronormativity. We also ask a very important question: is it gay? or is it still not as gay as Twilight?

  • This week, Rainbow Rewatch is taking a dive into one of the most remembered movies of our generation, Camp Rock (2008), a movie that corrupted both Daniel and Leliana into the people they are today. After debating whether Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner should be America's next royal family, they break down the plot of the movie and ask: is it actually any good? They then dive into the sexual tension of Demi Lovato and Alyson Stoner, the queerness of the Jonas Brothers, and how the movie opened the door to Daniel's and Leliana's queerness.

  • On this episode of We the Sheeple, where we break down a concept that has been bastardized and misunderstood, Daniel and Leliana talk about labels & identity politics. Identity politics have become a central idea in our culture for the last few years. And labels are how many people feel like they can express and articulate their queerness, and find solidarity. But do we really need them? And are they possibly holding back the queer community?

We will return to regularly scheduled Rainbow Rewatch programming next week!

  • What's the sitch? Well, the sitch is that this week, Daniel and Leliana are reviewing Kim Possible, a TV show that redefined Disney Channel (and many children's sexuality). Specifically, they revisited "Oh Boyz" (season 2 episode 24) and "Stop Team Go" (season 4 episode 12). Daniel and Leliana discuss the clearly queer-coded characters like Senor Senior Jr and Shego (?), Ron's healthy masculinity, and the palpably gay relationship between Shego and Kim Possible. This iconic show has it all: teenage hero spies, naked mole rats who speak, boy bands, and more! Booyah!

  • This week, Daniel and Leliana are reviewing a movie that no one asked for, no one expected, and no one knows how to quite explain: the Emperor's New Groove! This Disney cult classic has it all: cultural misappropriation, Eartha Kitt, llamas in drag, and homoerotic subtexts galore. They dig deep into the film's portrayal of masculinity through himbo legend Kronk, and ponder if Emperor Kuzco is in fact one of the gays (of course he is).

  • Pride month is almost over (cry face yas queen gawd pop off sis the house down boots slay hunty boo) so we thought we would discuss one of the most iconic aspects of contemporary queer culture: Grindr! You may know it as the gay hookup app, but we know it as a dungeon trash hole where the most terrifying monsters are kept away locked and key. Yay! On this episode of We the Sheeple, Daniel and Leliana unpack this most infamous app and discuss its pros, and its many many cons. They also explain its hidden importance and impact to the LGBTQ community while sharing some truly embarrassing stories and some awful messages they have received. Spoiler alert: it's messy as fuck.

On We the Sheeple, Daniel and Leliana break down a concept that has been bastardized by society and demystify it through their uniquely queer lens. They will return to regularly scheduled Rainbow Rewatch programming next week!

  • Yeehaw! Yippee Ki Yay! or whatever cowboys say....because this week on Rainbow Rewatch, Daniel and Leliana are talking about Brokeback Mountain (2006) aka that one gay cowboy movie. After unpacking the film's immense cultural significance and effect on the course of gay representation in media, Daniel and Leliana ask some important questions. Such as why was this movie so darn successful? Why did Daniel sob the entire time? How can we parse apart the film's undoubtable importance and the fact that it is a story told exclusively by straight people? How did Jake Gyllenhaal bottom without lube? And is it Brokeback Mountain, or Bareback Mountain???

  • Just to get this out of the way: we do talk about poop for about 5 minutes in the middle of the episode, and we are very sorry. It isn't *that* gross if you try not to visualize what we are talking about.

Annnnyway, this episode of Rainbow Rewatch is reallll wet and hot because Daniel and Leliana are talking about Wet Hot American Summer (2001), the summer camp story that we deserve. This movie has EVERYTHING: Bradley Cooper taking it up the ass, a talking can of vegetables, and everything in between. The dolls then dig into the film's queer relationship, its lack of POC representation, camp at summer camp, and whether absurdism excuses controversial jokes. Oh, and also poop.

  • Is it just me, or is it the "Start of Something New" on this extra special, musical-theatre packed episode of Rainbow Rewatch. This week, Daniel and Leliana break down the DCOM to end all DCOMs, High School Musical (2006), which has to be the most accidentally gay film ever created!! After spilling some tea, the dolls sit down the amazingly talented JJ Niemann (Broadway performer, TikTok content creator, all around lovely human being) to get into everrrrrything queer about this cultural significant masterpiece. They get into Ryan and his terrible hats, masculinity and straight privilege in musical theatre, sticking to the status quo, and ALL things Sharpay. So kick back, relax, take out your basketball, and get your HEAD in the GAME.

And to all the members of our queer extended family out there, happy pride!! You are loved <3

  • Wow. Just wow. In this episode of Rainbow Rewatch, Daniel and Leliana review a movie that they really didn't want to watch (but did because they love good old fashioned journalism), Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Beyond being horribly unfunny, this movie is perhaps one of the most transphobic films ever made. So this week, they break down the movie's representation of transness and try to understand what made the movie so popular despite its EXTREMELY problematic source material.

  • Uh oh, someone must have opened Pandora's Box because on this episode of Rainbow Rewatch, Daniel and Leliana are breaking down Glee, Season 1 Episode 4 "Preggers." This is one of the most iconic episodes of glee (ft. Kurt doing single ladies) and one of the very first that centered queerness as a major plot line. Listen as the laddies discuss their obsession with this show, Kurt's tender relationship with his father, and gay stereotypes in high school. They also unpack some of their high school trauma, and try their very best to understand how the hell football works.

  • In this week's episode of Rainbow Rewatch, Daniel and Leliana are switching it up and introducing a new series: We the Sheeple! On We the Sheeple, Daniel and Leliana break down a concept that has been bastardized by society and demystify it through their uniquely queer lens. They will return to regularly scheduled Rainbow Rewatch programming next week!

This week, they are discussing polyamory, a concept that is intrinsically tied with queerness. They try to understand why there is so much stigma surrounding polyamory, discuss whether polyamory falls under the LGBTQ+ umbrella, and begin to tear down society's impulse to push us all into monogamous, cis-het relationships. Then, halfway through the episode, they do a lil *puff puff* action and philosophize as they fly through the clouds!!

Daniel and Leliana are *NOT* experts on polyamory, consensual non-monogamy, or even relationships, for that matter. All opinions are their own, and are shared in good faith with the intention of pushing towards a more inclusive society.

  • In this week's episode of Rainbow Rewatch, Daniel and Leliana review Easy A (2010), the angsty teen movie about slut shaming we didn't know we needed. After discussing a stage production of Easy A that Leliana was in, they break down some queer aspects of the film including Brandon and his bi-erasure, the intersection of queerness and christianity, and Olive's sexually fluid parents. They also discuss the slut shaming of young girls in schools, the hypersexualization of queer people in our culture, and the importance of being in control of your own sexual journey. • This week on Rainbow Rewatch is a SUPER delicious episode because Daniel and Leliana are chatting about arguably the most iconic movie of the 2000s, the queer cult classic Mean Girls!!! We are joined by very special guest Braunwyn Windham-Burke (Real Housewives of Orange County, Amplified Voices, all around legend), who made headlines earlier this year as the first openly queer real housewife in the entire franchise! After discussing their personal relationship to this film, Daniel and Leliana talk to Braunwyn about her journey of self-exploration that led to her coming out, problematic reactions from the fandom, sobriety, and her experience as the mother of queer children. Then, they break down everrrrrything queer about this amazingly gay film including whether Damian is good queer representation, Janis' lesbophobia, and the movie's lasting impact on queer culture.

And if you take away anything from this episode, let it be this: "And on the third day, God created the Remington bolt-action rifle, so that man could fight the dinosaurs. And the homosexuals. Amen."

  • TW: sexual assault & violence (from about 27:00 - 31:00)

Is it Friday the 13th, or did someone just give us a laced fortune cookie? Because this week on Rainbow Rewatch, Daniel and Leliana are revisiting Freaky Friday (2003) featuring an ICONIC performance by Ms. Jamie Lee Curtis and the queen of the early 2000s herself, Lindsay Lohan. The *dolls* discuss the importance of punk culture, BDSM, the film's implicit racism, and what they would do if their boyfriend kissed their mom. They also break down the concept of switching bodies and its relationship to transness, and relay a terrifying story of kidnapping and torture....that has absolutely nothing to do with Freaky Friday.
