He was a good kid with an alcoholic father who very abusive. He suffered a lot of pain while growing up. He got a neighbor girl pregnant, they had a son when he was thirteen.
He continued to self-medicate with drugs and overdosed at sixteen and nearly died. He was my cousin so we brought him into our home and tried to help him for a couple of months while he lived with us.
His habit grew progressively worse. At nineteen he went into a Teen Challenge substance abuse treatment program and did great for a few months afterward.
Then he started using again and battled drugs for the next twenty years. He went to jail, then to prison and then he was released back into society.
He called me to tell me how great things were going. Later that week something caused him to shoot Heroin one more time.
