  • In a world dominated by smartphones, tech, and the rise of AI, answering a call to religious life can feel harder than ever. Fr. Alvinrex, who now runs the St. Alphonsus Institute of Theology in Bangalore, understands this struggle firsthand.

"Religious life is going through a period of profound change," he said. Citing the parable, he added that "maybe we need to change the old wineskin to new wineskin. We need to think in the way the younger generation thinks." Still, he urges everyone to take a moment to listen to that call from God amidst all the distractions and "noise" in the world for their own "God experience". "Life will always challenge you. But the more important thing is don't run away from the challenge."Show notes:Talk to the Redemptorist - [email protected] Updates for Mass and events at Novena Church - https://novenachurch.com/updates-2/;https://novenachurch.com/events/

  • From life as a human rights advocate in the advent of a martial law in the Philippines to being imprisoned three times, Brother Karl Gaspar shares his journey to becoming a Redemptorist brother. "If you have two years in prison, it does make you think very deeply where you would like to bring your life after you get released," he said. "I was haunted by my desire to become a religious." He chose to not pursue priesthood, saying he wasn't drawn to the sacramental liturgical ministry. He sought to be a religious brother knowing that there's a notion that brothers are seen as second class. "I never had that insecurity," he said. Now, he's trying to redefine that image -- he was the dean of St Alphonsus Theological and Mission Institute. At the same time, he faces the reality that recruiting others to follow his footsteps won't be easy today.

  • In this podcast, Fr Terence shared how special it was to witness the culmination of months of planning and preparation amidst argument and tension. The process started around March with teams organizing various aspects such as flowers, liturgy, candles, and other activities, leading up to Triduum and Annual Procession.

In addition, a nine-week novena devotion with each novena focusing on a different outreach group such asFamily Life, Migrants, Refugees and others, aligned with this year’s theme of Mary, Missionary of Perpetual Help with pastoral care for the most abandoned.

Changes were also made to crown bearers, with Fr Pang crowning the Icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help instead of past years where the main celebrant would crown the Icon.

Post ANP, the church will be busy with the upcoming Papal Mass and the Feast of Saint Gerard.

  • This episode is a deep dive into the realities of religious life today, offering insights into faith and resilience.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Fr. Ives de May, C.Ss.R. and Fr Andreas Krahnen, C.Ss.R. who are currently the only 2 active Redemptorists in Belgium. Both Fathers spoke about their early calling to the Redemptorist way of life, emphasizing the importance of community.

Fr Ives' journey is particularly inspiring. Despite joining a community that was aging and declining, he embraces the challenges as opportunities for renewal and growth, the Christian Hope and a renewal of the church. This attitude of seeing potential in adversity is something we can all learn from, especially in our changing world. Fr Andreas is originally from Germany but that did not stop him from learning new languages in spite of his age. Fr Andreas is also a wonderful musician. Spot him singing the Dutch version of Ku Mau Cita Yesus in this episode!Comment what is your takeaway for this episode. Is it faith and resilience or be humble and trust God or both?
