This is an episode that I've had recorded for a while. I wasn't sure if I was going to post it because of its personal nature. However, I realised that being honest on this podcast and expressing myself truthfully matters more than anything. If it can help someone who maybe went through, or is currently experiencing, something similar to me, then it should be out there.

Dreaming, like many things, can be a tool. Finding the balance is the key to enjoying life and living abroad. It can be an uncomfortable reality to realise that even when you love life, there are behaviours within yourself that you need to be conscious of.

A "quarterly review" of my life and what I'm thinking about moving forward.
The questions that inspired me:
What were the top 3 big wins of the past 3 months and why?
What were the 3 biggest challenges, and what did you learn from them?
What are the top 3 aspirations for the coming 3 months? And what’s the biggest risk they might not happen? And what are you going to do to mitigate that risk?

Teaching EFL is something many people dabble in their imaginations. However, most never make the leap. We're here to help you decide if you should do TEFL (spoiler: you probs should) and, more importantly, where to do it.

Everyone has moments where things can be a little overwhelming. They're just moments, they pass. But I thought it would be nice to hear that you're not the only one who has those moments. We all do.

Following my previous podcast about religion, a conversation began between me and my guest for today's podcast. Mitch and I go deep into the topics of religion, faith, church culture and why he prefers not to be referred to as a "Christian."

This is a message that both my friend and I need to hear. Sometimes we learn our worst habits during the hardest of times. Much love to all my friends. If you need to, let's change together. This is unedited because I wanted to speak from the heart.
To my friend, who is having a tough time, I am here for you. Love you.

Obviously, not possible to deliver this, but there might be someone who finds this useful, and it's also good to think about the journey I've been on.
It's also important for me to think about where I want to go next. The personal values I hold regarding teaching my students are still very much something I strive towards. Some days are better than others, but the art of improving is applying the lessons I learn from teaching to making better experiences for my students.

Solo travelling is how I spend most of exploratory days at the moment. Giving myself that independence and ability to do what I want, where I want without the need for others to go with me, has given me something indispensable: freedom. Freedom to do what I want in life and not missing out because of the fear of discomfort. That doesn't just apply to travelling either. That mentality has helped me in all sorts of ways. Enjoy the episode.

After coming onto four years of teaching EFL at around a dozen schools, here are my thoughts on the industry that I call my working-home. I'll write more about it in my weekly blog/email post this weekend. Subscribe to www.richardmagrane.com to get it emailed straight to your inbox.

Last year in Europe I travelled to Edinburgh, Paris, Milan, Florence, Venice, Munich, Berlin, Prague (twice, flex), Rotterdam, Krakow, and Amiens. I did that, mostly, with an interrail ticket.
As I go through another episode, I do want to answer one question: was it worth it?
Some links regarding interrailing:
The interrail website: www.interrail.eu
Seat reservations for Germany/some other countries: www.bahn.de
For UK seat reservations: www.lner.co.uk
With seat reservations, it is often cheaper to go outside of the interrail app to make them. However, different countries often have different websites you'll need to use. A quick google search will no doubt the answer. To be clear, this is not for buying a ticket. It just means the train requires you book a seat beforehand but the right to travel on the train comes from your interrail app. The seat reservation just prevents overcrowding. I didn't know you could reserve a seat without buying a ticket at the same time before this (lol).

For many people, travelling is a phase in their life before getting "more serious." Actually, that is by far the most common way of looking at it and people who break that line of thinking can leave question marks in people's brains. Especially when they make it a more permanent lifestyle. Questions like "don't you think you'll regret not doing something a little more... sensible?" or "is what you're doing realistic?" As I get closer towards an age where these sorts of questions come into my life, I thought it is worth thinking about this a bit more. Is a travelling lifestyle less serious than any other? I'm going to explain why I think it is.

Before listening, it might seem easy to just agree with this statement and to believe you live your life with this in mind. However, for many of us, our actions tell a different story. When we consider what money might also represent in our lives (spoiler: I mean our time) it leaves me scratching my head and a lot to talk about.
Having a Think 2

The podcasts comeback brings along a topic very close to me. Not only that, it's a way of thinking that anyone can benefit from. Seeking discomfort may sound unpleasant, but it brings self-improvement and, fundamentally, a happier life. I'll also be discussing my absence from this commitment I've made and how I want to prevent it from happening again in the future.

I'm trying to think about my goals for 2023 (and beyond) in as broad a way as possible. I find that this brings a lot more meaning/purpose into what I'm aiming to do.Here's a summary of the five things I want to achieve:
Improve/ be better
Seek discomfort
Create
Look after relationships. Build new ones.
Maintain my values
The finer details of how I plan to achieve each of the goals can be found in my podcast. Enjoy :)Subscribe: www.richardmagrane.com

The first episode of my ''Having a Think'' series. This is a new series where I give my thoughts on different topics. Hopefully, it will start conversations/give you something to think about, too. These are part of my larger podcast. They won't be every week, but just when I have a topic that I particularly wanna talk about. A way to differentiate various types of episodes.
Therefore, enjoy... Having a Think 1.
The episode is in two parts:
1) Personal. My history with religion and how that has led to my views today.
2) Religion in the world more broadly. Weighing up if it has a positive or negative impact on the world. As you might guess, this was a difficult question to come to a solid conclusion on.
Let me know your thoughts!

Part two. We continue to talk about travel and other fun stuff. Reflecting on our time in Korea, COVID-19 (not fun lol) and our travel experiences. This episode is a little late because I've been ill. Next one will be back on schedule. Also, sorry for some of the audio quality (convo was still sick). Once again, thank you to Emma for coming on. I'll show unseen pieces of our conversation in future episodes, so look forward to that. :) That'll be about seeking discomfort and having the right people in your life. Until then...Follow Emma: https://www.instagram.com/lyfeofprada/www.richardmagrane.com

Part 1 of a two-part conversation with Emma. We discuss her life, travelling, Korea, mad stories and lots more good stuff.
Looking forward to part 2! The next episode will follow on directly from this one.

Disclaimer: Unfortunately, the audio quality drops due to technical issues mid conversation. There was a lot of fantastic stuff talked about, so I hope you'll still enjoy it.

Picking up right where we left off last time. The second installment. Not an Artist, not giving a f*ck, making the right connections, making meaningful changes in your life, the future and taking the piss out of some old friends.
Unfortunately, the recording didn't come out perfect. We recorded online and the audios didn't sync properly. Towards the end, it becomes more noticeable. BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER BECAUSE THE CONVO IS 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Once again, a few expletives from the get go.
