  • As the race season kicks off in India, each and every runner out there is racking up the miles and aiming to secure those coveted medals. But in the midst of earning those medals, are runners today running a bit too much? Is there a cap on how much a person should run? Is there such a thing as “too much running”?

Vikas also goes on to highlight how a runner, depending on their current fitness levels and future running goals, can add in the miles to their plans in a systematic manner, mitigating injuries and ensuring enough time for recovery to bring the best out on race day.

  • Welcome back to another special episode of Run with Fitpage! In episode 183, we're revisiting our chat with one of the most loved guests on the show so far - Pete Pfitzinger. Pete is an American former distance runner, an author, and an exercise physiologist. In this episode, Vikas and Pete talk about how you can train to run faster.

Pfitzinger is a 1979 graduate of Cornell University. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Cornell's Johnson Graduate School of Management and a Master of Arts in exercise science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Pfitzinger is the co-author of two highly popular training books for distance runners - Advanced Marathoning (with Scott Douglas) and Faster Road Racing (with Philip Latter). He is also a senior writer for Running Times Magazine. In the 1984 Olympic Marathon Team Trials, Pfitzinger became immediately known among American marathoners by storming past the heavily favored Alberto Salazar in the final fifty yards to win the race, in a time of 2:11:43. In the 1988 Olympic Marathon Team Trials, Pfitzinger finished 3rd in a time of 2:13:09. He was a consistent performer: All of his 13 career marathons were run in times between 2:11:43 - 2:15:21. He won 5 of his 13 marathons, and finished 2nd or 3rd in 4 others. Pete is now the Chief Executive of Athletics New Zealand.

Beyond her athletic accomplishments, Joanna Zeiger is a highly respected researcher and epidemiologist. She earned her PhD from Johns Hopkins University's Bloomberg School of Public Health and has conducted significant studies on drug use and mental toughness in athletes. As the founder and CEO of a research institute, Joanna has focused on the benefits of cannabis, particularly CBD, for pain management and improving quality of life. Her pioneering work in The Sisu Study and The Athlete PEACE Survey has shed light on the medicinal possibilities of CBD for athletes. • In this episode of Run with Fitpage, we have a leading researcher in the field of integrative physiology and human locomotion — Dr Alena Grabowski. Dr Alena discusses all about Ground Reaction Force, and its impact on your running journey, with our host, Vikas Singh.

Dr Alena Grabowski is a distinguished Associate Professor in the Department of Integrative Physiology at the University of Colorado, Boulder. With a career dedicated to the intersection of physiology and biomechanics, Dr. Grabowski's research explores how assistive mechanical devices, such as leg prostheses and exoskeletons, impact human locomotion, including walking, running, hopping, jumping, bicycling, and sprinting. A significant part of her work focuses on ground reaction forces (GRF) and their implications for running performance, providing valuable insights for athletes and researchers alike. Grabowski earned her B.A. in Kinesiology from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and later completed her Ph.D. in Integrative Physiology at the same institution. Her professional journey includes a post-doctoral fellowship at the Media Lab Biomechatronics Group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and roles as a Research Scientist at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and a Research Specialist at Whirlwind Wheelchair International.

Dr Grabowski leads the Applied Biomechanics Laboratory, where her innovative research continues to advance our understanding of the biomechanical and physiological effects of assistive devices, ultimately aiming to improve mobility and performance for individuals with and without physical impairments. Her work not only contributes to academic knowledge but also has practical applications in enhancing athletic performance and developing targeted rehabilitation programs.
