In this episode, Mladen and Kristina talk about the origins and mentality of the Serbian people.
The Serbs are a south Slavic people who live mostly in the Balkan Peninsula and the Pannonian plain. According to recent statistics, there are around 11 million Serbs in the world. The official language of the Serbs is Serbian, which belong to the Southern branch of Slavic languages. The official script is the Cyrillic alphabet. Around 85% of Serbs are adherents of Orthodox Christianity.
You will learn more about traits that characterize the Serbian people and give them a stamp of uniqueness and individuality: resilience, adaptability, pride, hospitality, but also spitefulness and stubbornness. We also talk about the centuries-old Serbian ideals of heroism, Δojstvo (strength of character), and honour. Among other things, youβll learn that Serbs love celebrations and festivals, and that they love receiving guests. Youβll hear that according to the American Psychological Association, Serbs are the people with the highest self-esteem in the world.

Mladen and Kristina speak about two American scientists of Serbian descent, Nikola Tesla and Mihajlo Pupinβ proverbial giants who changed the world with their contributions.
Nikola Tesla and Mihajlo Pupin were both Serbs, both brilliant minds, and while they were contemporaries, they did not collaborate nor were they friends. The path of learning and scientific research led both Tesla and Pupin to the United States of America where they lived and worked in the field of science, which made them well known throughout the world.
Nikola Tesla is most famous for his invention of the alternating current electricity supply system, and the unit of magnetic induction was named after him. In the field of telecommunications, Mihajlo Pupin is best known for his patent under the name of βPupin coils.β

In this episode, Mladen and Kristina talk about the history of Serbian cuisine and its modern iterations, as well as ethno-tourism in Serbia.
The diet in Serbia and among Serbs living around in the world is almost always connected with family gatherings and the enjoyment of food. This is the origin of our national cuisine, which equally considers both nutrition and the pleasure that comes with eating. For tourists who come to Serbia, going to restaurants to try specialties such as ajvar, gibanica, kajmak, veΕ‘alica, pljeskavica, kiflice, or Vasina torta, is an unavoidable part of visiting Serbia.
Serbian ethno-tourism is becoming increasingly popular among foreign tourists who remain enchanted by the vivid nature and customs of Serbia. Although located in the heart of Europe, Serbia is one of the few countries in the world that can still offer healthy, clean, and tasty food, as well as exotic rural locations to appeal to tourists looking for a vacation away from civilization, urban life, and technology.

In this episode, Kristina talks about the national parks of Serbia.
Worldwide, there are more than 1,500 national parks or reserves with appropriate degrees of protection. Serbia is home to five national parks whose value extends beyond the borders of Serbia, and which are included in the EUROPARC Federation, the largest network of European protected areas: FruΕ‘ka Gora, Djerdap, Kopaonik, Tara, and Sharr Mountains National Parks.
Find out more about the Djerdap Gorge, one of the largest and longest gorges in Europe; learn why Kopaonik is called βthe mountain of the sunβ; learn the name of the most poisonous mushroom in Serbia, located on FruΕ‘ka Gora, and of the wingless grasshopper found only on Mount Tara; and hear more about the large number of rare and endangered birds who live in the Sharr Mountains and why they are on the European list of Important Bird Areas.

Mladen and Kristina will take you on a little trip to Serbia, and get to know its capital Belgrade and its surroundings.
When you finally visit Serbia, youβll wish for it not to be your last time. It will enchant you with its beautiful landscapes, clean air, healthy drinking water, great tourist attractions and activities, and its special energy and hospitality.
Belgrade is one of the oldest cities in Europe, and what makes it unique is the fact that for centuries, it was located on the very border of the Eastern and Western Roman empires, and later between Eastern and Western Europe, which can be seen in its architecture and general atmosphere of the city. In Belgrade, you can see Celtic, Roman, Medieval Serbian, Austro-Hungarian, Turkish, and Russian influences.

In this episode, Kristina travels with us along the Morava Valley in Serbia, where we find some of the most beautiful Serbian medieval monasteries of the βMorava school,β as well as breathtaking natural wonders.
On the almost deserted and empty land that was the Morava Valley and neighbouring areas, there developed an art that was based on the previous experiences of Byzantine and Serbian creators, but added many new elements, particularly in architecture.
We talk about the NemanjiΔ dynasty who ruled Serbia for more than two centuries, and the most famous monasteries from this period: Manasija, Ravanica, and Ljubostinja.
Join us to hear how Sacha Vigeant β upon visiting these medieval Serbian monasteries --- stumbled upon haunting secrets in beautiful and peaceful places, and discovered an intangible connection with our history, and ultimately with himself.
